Lol, sounds about right. Here's hoping you can find that planted book tomorrow!

It's .tph on the PC, yes, but it's still .oph on the Mac. Maybe it's another obstacle to be overcome - first a drop somewhere that has no active players, next a format that requires a different kind of computer than most players have. Instead of the normal puzzles, it's things to drive players to seek out friends to add to the game?

Took a stab at the vague-but-not-too-vague email... How does this look?

Hoy Jason,

We've gotten some pictures off of the USB stick I recovered in Dallas. They don't seem to hold any clues either, but we're still trying our hardest to figure out what it could be. There's still some files we can't decrypt. I'll keep you posted, or at least someone will. There's lots of us out here searching for clues for you, even if some are lurking in the shadows more than others.

Searching high and low,
Zaranai

PS: I almost forgot! There was a .txt file on the stick too that wasn't encrypted at all - a to-do list. Here's what it said:

Things to do:

1. Call Becs to let her know I've arrived safely.
2. Find a present for Mum's birthday.
3. Speak at LHC seminar on 8th.
4. Call airport to check return flight time.
5. Work on Ophi.

Maybe Ophi. = Ophiuchus? Do you know anything more about them?

I'm not on a single-letter basis with him as of yet, I don't think. ;P

Edit to include PS: Genuinely forgot the to-do list, and I think it might prod him into telling us more about PO. Can take it off if you guys think we shouldn't share it?

Well I personally loved it... I think he may have made the Ophi connection himself if one of us hadn't. And yeah I think it definitely works!

If a PM is reading this at all--
it would be very handy if something was hidden at the University of Michigan library. I can get there easily Smile

Alright guys, I'm out...

If I don't log on tomorrow before I leave, I'll try and grab a P.C and log in whilst in the library.

Word of warning though: It is SO freaking hard to get a P.C sometimes in that place, esp' if I'm looking on one particular floor.

Night all!

Wait, hold up...
You say you guys are getting actual files on your computer that end in .oph (or .tph) and they are supposed to download? When I went to http://www.boomspeed.com/tiggiefelin/LMF/, it only gave me a website with a load of scrambled binary that we discussed earlier.
And my PC says it ends in .oph-- the binary site, anyway.

When I had them on my computer and tried to load them it didn't know what to do with it, so I was prompted to pick a program and chose Notepad, getting the binary. I donno why the online thing is only showing the binary, but, you can right-click on them in the directory and go the old school "Save As..." route.

And, btw, when looking at the binary page like a normal webpage, it breaks, resulting in some sections being "hidden". Bit of a software glitch - just look at the source code, and it'll all be there.

I stated this in chat, but I'll state it again. The .oph file type being discussed here is not what our .OPH files are. A header file contains function definitions in a programming language. Here is an example of one of these oph files:
LINK
Open in a text editor of some sort. It may look a little strange, but it's readable.

Our file is a long binary string in ASCII. To the best of my knowledge, nobody stores a file like this. The .OPH extension here most likely is just another reference to Ophiuchus.

Well damn. Ah well.

Was a bit of the uppity-youngest-child syndrome kicking in: "It does SO exist! Razz Nyahnyahnyah!" I've been satiated now, I think. ;D

This is going to be a pain if this is right, but I don't think it is. I tried reversing the 1's and 0's and I got some letters, but I think its still gibberish. Like for document 5 it would be "QNRԹBK(i."

New Theory: The jibberish code you get when you decode the binary looks similar to the code inside of picture files. Maybe we can somehow contruct a picture out of this code.

Is the binary we're having trouble with the one Elite decoded on page 19? My husband is rather brilliant at this sort of thing, so I thought I'd have him take a look.

Yes that is the decoded binary for the 1st text file. It sort of looks to me like the gibberish in picture files, but I guess all that gibberish looks the same. I tried putting all the decoded stuff in one text file and naming it a .jpg, but it didnt work.

That block was gotten through the "invisible" version of the pages, I think. What we're looking at are the Auth_00x.OPH files here. You have to look at the source to get it all, but those are the ones, and apparently 2-6 are all the same.

http://www.paulschou.com/tools/xlate/ is the tool most have been using to translate this, I think... It changes the binary into a few different things, so you can see which one makes the most sense to him.

You can also open it in notepad to get the binary code.

Zaranai, can you look on the USB and tell us the dates each file was created. Maybe there is something to the order.

Yeah... .OPHs 2-6 were all Jan 21 08 and 10:11 pm .OPH 1 was the same date, but at 10:11 pm - something I only just noticed. Got asked this same question in the chat, but thought they were all 10:10 then. Looks like the first is even more different than the others. >.-;;

The pictures, on the other hand, are all from Feb 9 08, ranging from 1:01 am through 1:09 am. The order is "Me&Becs"(01), "These-premises-only-LOL"(02), "Apparently-he's-an-actor"(04), "Never-able-to-escape-Swiss"(08), and "Myspace-pose-posing"(09).

My guess? The "Several pictures build a story" has something to do with the pictures on this drive and the other, and the times are the clue for what order they go in.
