 Mini-Quest Updated Information

Hi,
It's Dave, cabalagent23, here. I'm sorry for the lack of information about the Post Game Mini-Quest the last week. I have been really sick for the last three days but was still trying to get everything done for this weekend. Unfortunately, it's just not going to work. Sad Consequently the Mini-Quest has been re-scheduled for next Sunday, Sept. 21st at 7PM EST. I am sorry for the inconvenience but I'd rather make sure it's completely ready to go than rush it. One of the reasons for doing the Mini-Quest was to help pass some time until Acheron started and since there's already plenty to do in that game, that's no longer a concern.
I will give you a little more information about the Mini-Quest itself, to hold you over until next weekend. All of this will be posted on the CTW site later today along with pictures of the prizes.
The Quest will be divided into nine separate stages, each with it's own special prize. It's not quite that simple though, as each player will be required to make some choices right from the start that will determine which stages they see first and what prizes they might discover. Even the prizes present choices to the players, because each player can only win one and will have to decide if they want what they have been the first one to find or try for a different one further down the path they have chosen. If you pass one over to try for another though, someone else might get there first.
Each stage will be relatively short and the puzzles (hopefully) not too difficult to unravel. Some will be similar in theme and content to the Pre-Game Mini-Quest while others will bring back familiar and popular material and "devices" from CTW itself. If you are the first to find the end of a particular stage, you will be shown what prize goes with it and asked to choose if you want to claim it or not. If you do, you will be ineligible for other prizes. If you choose to move on and someone else claims it in the meantime, you are out of luck. If you try to claim more than one prize, the first one you claimed will be the only one you receive.
I envision the whole experience lasting between two and three hours at the most although it could very easily go much quicker depending on how cooperation there is between players.
The prizes will consist basically of mementos from the game, including copies of some of the nine stones from the game, the original disc travel log, and a few surprises as well.
Again, I'm sorry for the slight delay but hopefully you find the extra time I put into it worth it.
Thanks for all your support and be sure to check out the other games just starting up and going on out there.
Dave

Sorry to hear that you've been sick, but I'm glad its been delayed because now I can participate. I'm out of town visiting the 'rents this weekend and thought I was going to miss the event. I'm looking forward to it!

Tonight !

Hi Everyone!
Just wanted to let you all know that the Post Game Mini Quest is still on for TONIGHT at 7:00PM EST, despite the lack of updates to the CTW page this week. I've been having trouble FTP'ing my CTW server this week and haven't been able to add new information as I wanted to but the good news is that the problems shouldn't affect tonight's Mini Quest. If possible, I'll still launch it from the CTW site; if not I've made other arrangements just in case.
If you want to be sure you are notified of any last minute changes e-mail me at:

miniquestSPLATchasingthewish.com

So far the e-mail accounts seem to be working OK.
I will try and post a few more bits of information here as the day goes on and time permits. Here's one additional tidbit for you now though - in addition to the nine stages with "in-game" items as prizes, there are also two "Easter Egg" trails to be found, and both lead to CTW Swag Bags with several CTW merchandise items. The same rules will apply to these prizes as the others though, you can still only win one.
Hope everyone enjoys it!
Dave

Server Problems

Unfortunately, as we were struggling to finish Stage Two, the following message appeared on CTW:

Quote:
Due to technical difficulties STAGE THREE has been postponed. Unfortunately server and computer problems have made it impossible to launch Stage Three tonight. We are sorry and will post new information as soon as possible. No one is more disappointed than us.

All prizes from Stage One and Stage Two have been claimed.

As far as I know from folks in chat, both of the Easter Egg prizes have also been claimed.

Wishing Dave and all the BTS a speedy resolution to your problems!

I'm at work and missed the whole thing. Sad

Can someone lay out what was found, etc. Then I can feel even worse...
Thanks. I think.

The Post Game Mini Quest

I just wanted to take this opportunity to personally apologize for the difficulties with the CTW Post Game Mini Quest last night. Although two-thirds of it went off without a hitch, I still am very disappointed that the final third had to be postponed because of the problems I was experiencing. I don't want to bore anyone with details but between server errors, problems connecting with and FTP'ing to certain sites, and having one of my personal computers lock-up in a non-recoverable crash, it just made it impossible to deliver as planned.

Actually, the stage that was missed was Stage Two, which was supposed to feature events that happened during the middle of the CTW storyline (yes, including the infamous greywethers log-in!). The Mini Quest was designed for Stage One to be in a pre-game timeframe, Stage Two to take place during the CTW in-game time period, and Stage Three to feature events after the end of the game. As you can see, I actually moved what was supposed to be Stage Three up to try and give me enough time to recover and still present the original Stage Two but it just didn't happen.

The original Stage Two was to be a self-contained mini game featuring the Aglaura map, navigating around it to accomplish specific missions, while finding items and solving puzzles. The game itself was complete and was to be delivered as a downloadable executable file from the CTW site. Unfortunately, most of the original source files were lost when the server I was testing it on crashed and lost data (not from the game, from unrelated problems). And guess what? The original files were all on the computer that died yesterday morning too. So I spent yesterday frantically trying to re-create what I had already completed once, even up through the time the Mini Quest launched and was active. Needless to say, I was unable to duplicate what took me weeks previously in just a few hours and the Stage was postponed, much to my chagrin. Even up to the last minute when I finally had to post the announcement, I was still trying to find some way to get it done in an acceptable way. It made the entire experience less than enjoyable for me; I only hope you all got some fun out of what I was able to deliver, even though the overall experience was certainly less than what I intended.

I will try and post a list of the winners in the next day or so, as well as my plans for publishing the omitted material. Thanks again for all your support for CTW along the way.

I had a grand time Dave.....it was fun and I'm sorry to hear you had such problems.

Does this mean that Stage three has been postponed or is actually lost?

Whatever the case it was a blast working with #ctw'ers again and I look forward to the day when we know the mystery that is the GreyWethers LogIn. Very Happy

I'm betting the login is "Godot"

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I loved all the work you've put into this Dave! This was incredible, not only in its game experience, but in my appreciating all the BTS work that was done. That was almost more fun than the game itself.
