IMHO, scientology is a business disguised as a religon. But I guess this discussion is for a different place.

The rook image is not named the same as the other images. IE it dosent say "encoded" in the name. Does the program say there is something else there ? or did TDC forget to change the image names or something ?

Anyway, ideas for rook paswords:
On the chess board the black rooks start at a8 & h8 Black pawns start at a7 b7 c7 d7 e7 f7 g7 h7

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rook_%28bird%29
The Rook (Corvus frugilegus) is a member of the passerine order of birds and the crow family. Named by Linnaeus in 1758,[1] the species name frugilegus is Latin for "food-gathering".

Usually TDC has a clue in the last thing we found for the next step. So maybe there is a clue in that pic of the spy with a bag over his head. I noticed it says "two birds with one stone" so I tried bird2, one stone, stuff like that. But maybe its more focused on the chess piece than the bird. I'm stumped...

Luna, what was the date and time he sent that? It rots to "anything." Did anyone else get an email from him? Maybe it will say "dont tell him anything"?

Nacho, welcome back!! I had that problem too. When you save the pics off the blog, you have to choose to save them as a bmp then. If you just rename the file it doesnt work.

Steg update

The files:
http://bp1.blogger.com/_WbjeOV5QtW8/R8JfTJAtaRI/AAAAAAAAAAc/biahIxoAGhY/s1600-h/bird1.jpg (toms blog)

And: http://www.dkimages.com/discover/previews/865/25100617.JPG (dk site)

are exactly the same byte for byte so it is not stegged....unless the dk site is as well.

Though it can of course be the key or clue for another code.

Ah good catch Sgt Brass! I guess when you save pictures as a bmp and open them in notepad or a text editor, they all look very different than a jpg or png looks. I thought it looked all funky because it was encoded, but thats just the bmp format.

If anyone wants to join the irc chat, we're on the uf server and the chat room name is #pet.

edit:
On the wiki page for the chess piece rook, it says another name for a rook is a chariot.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
for the pawn8 pic, use the pw chariot and you get a new picture!

nice1 u2!

ok bcos im bored:

Basically most files that are not text will look like symbols in notepad even if they do not have anything hidden in them. Notepad generally is only able to display a-zA-Z0-1 punctuation etc but of course it is not the symbol that is stored only a number 0-255 and notepad does not bother with the weird symbols so you just get a rectangle Sad

Anyway bcos it does not bother with all the weird symbols, it might print a rectangle for different values, so one rectangle is not nessecerily going to be the same as another.

Now it would be dodgy to change the file format of a picture to try in a steg program, as some will progs will (i guess the best word is "attach") the hidden data to the picture, which a picture converter will not understand and should just ignore.

However if the hidden data is hidden by slightly changing the colour of each pixel, then as long as the conversion is not worse quality than the original then you *might* be ok in getting the hidden stuff back, assuming the decryption prog is descently written.

If you put all the messages together you get

"Don't tell the CM anything"

That makes sense, no?
