Book competition winner.

Darn it! Missed out on the 1300 books!
Well done Andrew Yuill! (Where's he going to park his car?)

Thank you everyone who entered the Win A Library competition. We had hundreds of correct entries - and the computer picked our winner on May 1st. We're pleased to announce that Andrew Yuill from Norfolk is the lucky winner and will soon be receiving a large consignment of books. Happily, we believe he has a garage in which to store them!

Why does "Xibalba" sound so familiar? I have a feeling that's been mentioned before.

I'll be honest, it sounds a lot like 'Sebulba' - the champion pod-racer from Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. Could it be that? Confused

Was he wrong about who they are? The two mythical brothers don't seem to match his suspicions.

They can have the same names without being the same people. Odd names to share I admit but perfectly plausible.

from the mayan hero twins wiki "The Twins' final transformation into sun and moon establishes a metaphor for unassailable rule over earth and sky"

doesn't doom have the cards for Sun and Moon? also for the devil, and the twins are famous for having visited the underworld...

To batgirl and the rest of the Strand crew: thank you for waiting yesteday. I'm sorry I could not convey my non-attendance more effectively but was locked in negotiations at work and could only spare a minute to post. Glad that the visit was successful despite the delay.

It is a bit confusing that there seem to be so many possiblities for the twins' identity, but I feel we are still only getting hints and haven't cracked it yet. If they are Hunahpuh and Xbalanque, why has one been dead for 400 years, which suggests John Dee?

Coincidences

OOG Tweeldle dum & tweedle dee both keep poping up in unexpected places! The latest is a photo of my Dad & my Uncle as children, dressed up as the Tweedles! Very Happy -OOG

Re-reading the Hero Twins story (http://www.mythweb.com/teachers/why/other/hero_twins.html) I notice that they have to trick the Lords of Death into revealing their real names. Later they are killed and come back, looking different; both similarities to T&I, ecept in our version the brothers are the evil ones - an effect of the mirror?

A couple of thoughts:

1) The note said the names of the two brothers were hidden in that book. That seems to clearly indicate that the names you guys found are the names we have been looking for.
2) We never did find out who bought that copy of Myth Obs, did we? That's a loose end I would like to see tied up.
3) What is the significance of the character names in Slice? TL has hinted that they mean something, but with just myself & IngyW working on it (there is a separate thread), we haven't really managed to come up with loads! erm....HELP!!
4) What do we do after tomorrow? Crying or Very sad

Well I thought it was all over a week ago! Who's to say there isn't going to be another twist in the tale?

I'm hoping either the story is over in the next week, OR that it goes on and on and on, or at least into June! I'm away for a couple of weeks from next Wednesday, I'd hate to be away during the end stage!

Also to echo VeeBee come and look at the Slice thread! if I'm not around for a little while she'll get lonely Smile

About to go out, thought I'd scribble down some thoughts

!)Do any of the clues Alice found lead us to MO too? did anyone check in the excitement of finding the book with the names in?

")Xbalanqué and Hunahpú - could they relate in anyway to the two Doctors in a more logical way, to fit in with MA's thoughts?

£)Could someone list all the letters that have been replaced in the mis-spelled words that have been noticed?

$) Does Cabbage's "The Sacred Stone of Xibalba" have any hints in it?

Whoops! goota run!

For what it's worth...

treacle and ink p1 a friend my uncle of omitted (Typo?)

contrariwise TMH TMH instead of TMA
ALICE the o of the pack o instead of 0
TulipRootsForOnions There is only only The e of one appears as ly
Mythological objects Take a card, and card The y of any appears as a d
Mythological objects Lightening Bolts (archaic spelling?)
ALICE Yees it said Extra e in Yees? Not sure about this one...

xbalanquehunahph h instead of u (Unconfirmed?)

These are all the ones I know of, not sure that they amount to anything? Holy Dee? Anyone spotted any more?

I very much doubt it. It's called just The Sacred Stone - and it is immense fun for kids, but pretty sure that it is just that, a fun children's book about the "Tikali" tribe and the sacred stone of Xibalba.

I get this feeling that we are being thick and they are having to give us more hints to work out who these chaps are. Then again, I can't see how we could have deduced the Mayan twins from what we already had.

Any ideas on how it's going to end tonight? Is it a real life meetup or are we going to find out about in a blogpost after it's all over?

Alice has been remarkably quiet the last couple of days; I emailed her on Tuesday, but I still haven't got a reply from her.

She has been too quiet! I would have hoped a live event would have had some notice giving, so perhaps not. Maybe, as has been said above, it won't be over. Though if Dorcas is going to destroy the mirror, I don't see how it can continue. We have to assume we got the names right, because if we didn't, Alice isn't leaving us any time to sort it out.
This is testing my patience somewhat.....
Confused

EDIT: typical. new T&I while i was posting!!!
Laughing

OOhhhhhh, we can all take part from the comfort of our own home. Neat!!! Cool
