Does anyone else see a connection between Jacamo and Jaques? It seems to be a similar relationship between Alice and Slice. Jaques seems to be trying to save Alice from the mirror though - or has judged her an unsuitable candidate for using it.

If Marsh-Ayre really was sucked through the obsidian mirror, then who wrote the note welcoming Alice? Either he went through willingly and plans to return (otherwise why loom after the shop) or he was sucked in and someone attempted a cover-up!

Also, how can a family of three just disappear from central London without anyone noticing? Perhaps one of the solicitors or estate agents Ray and Lynne were talking to has noticed something...

There have been so many tie ins with Alice in Wonderland: Alice, Hattie Loon, Marsh-Ayre, hares (Masquerade?) - can't help looking forward to the entrance of the caterpillar.

So it looks like the thing we have to focus on is finding this book which hasn't been published and we only know exists anywhere else in an empty house in London - are we supposed to go housebreaking or could there be any other way of finding it.... has anyone emailed panguin about it...? Maybe they were sent it in an attempt to have them publish it...?

Perhaps there is a different tack... is it possible that one or more of the other objects from the book could be stashed in the attic? Alice (the original) drank a potion, so I was intrigued (or should I say tantalised) by the tantalus that was mentioned early on in the Treacle and Ink blog.

(Cross posted from WLP forum)

"I am now wondering what the "other thing" is that is alluded to in the book note, albeit obliquely.

THE DOCTOR'S MIRROR, ON THE OTHER HAND, PROBABLY HAS EVEN GREATER PURPOSES.

What is the thing "on the one hand" that the previous page is presumably talking about? Is it another object in the attic? Could it be the tantalus already mentioned?

A Tantalus Drink Container is a contraption for keeping bottle(s) of alcohol in; visible yet requiring a key or some special trick to gain access to the bottles.

There is another Greek connection there, Tantalus being a son of Zeus {wikipedia}:

Tantalus is known for having been welcomed to Zeus' table in Olympus, like Ixion. There he too misbehaved, stole ambrosia, brought it back to his people, and revealed the secrets of the gods.

Perhaps we should ask Alice to investigate the tantalus too?"

Well I did ask her to investigate the tantalus over the weekend, but have not had a reply yet...

I got a reply as well

We do have a copy of this book in the shop, but unfortunately it is in Mr Marsh-Ayre's private collection and not for sale. I'd like to help you in your research as, coincidentally, I have just recently become interested in obsidian mirrors myself, however the book is locked away in a display case and I don't have a key. If you do find a copy of this book elsewhere, then I'd be very keen to hear what is in that chapter too.

Given the post today on Treacle and Ink, the finding of the book looks like being the next step in this weeks story, which is based all about Fairy Tales. We know there are at least 2 copies out there, there must be more!

If she's so desperate to read that bloody book, she should just break open that display case and let us know what's inside. Then just replace the display case. I'll help pay for it if that helps.

hi everyone! I'm a bit late in joining this having only found it this afternoon but I think I'm just about caught up...

I've got to say I think we're missing something about the book and how to get hold of it (or get it to Alice), I don't think the people at penguin really mean for any of us to go breaking in to houses... Has anyone tried emailing Alice about Slice and where another copy of the book might be?

Then again we might find more clues in this week's story, I'm a bit disappointed with the Slice story though, didn't really give much away...ah well, bring on tomorrow's story!

Bummer -- I'm way to busy right now to get into this one. BUT I did get an article on it up at Blogcritics Magazine --> http://blogcritics.org/archives/2008/03/26/162752.php

Maybe that will attract some fresh perspectives. I threw a link to the forum up in a comment, because I did the article before I saw the thread.

I found the book!!

I found the book! Mythological Objects!

Not completely sure how to post it here, cause it is kind of a spoiler. I've split the steps up into hints and spoilers; don't want to take the fun completely away:

Hint:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Go to Ray and Lynn's Blog and check out the mosafecontents.jpg. See anything special?

Hint2:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Check out the smudges. They're not completely random.

Spoiler:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Certain letter have a dot beneath them. This spells out the following: sniprcomhaigha

Spoiler2:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
It spells out a URL: snipr.com/haigha

Spoiler3:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
This leads to http://mythologicalobjects.googlepages.com/home

Now what to do with this?

the dedication in the Mythological Objects book.

Let's wait and see

Nice find on the website mseckington...I guess we'll see later today if this will mean anything to Alice. Smile

Think we found a link to the email we got from week 1:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Character refers to "Safe Passage" again.

Great work mseckington!

Page 86 talks about the hare as a messenger between worlds, so that ties in the Splice story.

Page 141 the assitant talks about "it's all done with smoke and the other thing" <cough> mirrors <cough>

Page 142 mentions picking a card, which ties back to the talk about cards in the email

Interesting that the only section that we get a decent chunk of is pages 139 - 142, although how that bit of story helps is beyond me.

The dedication should promt Alice to do a little breaking and entering I would have thought...

EDIT: BTW Haigha is a character from Through the Looking Glass, and is the same character as the March Hare.

Now I'm kicking myself, I typed those letters out when the table of contents first appeared and I couldn't make anything of it. I should have known better!!!

Page 86, there's our white rabbit... or Jacques Rabbit...

P208 seems odd as it finishes the page, obviously still talking about Svafrlami and the last few words read
Quote:
It would cost the life of not only Sva-
yet the start of the next page is

Great solves Mseck! Lets hope there's something in these pages, and indeed something on the April 1st story on the website. Good work people! Smile

wow, that's some good work! I'd hardly looked at the contents page other than reading it through the first time I saw it... Even Alice has got to admit that the dedication's a bit too much of a coincidence, maybe she'll decide it's worth breaking the case open now.

edit: New story's up, looks like a "make your own adventure" sort of thing... I'm thinking we have to guess the right information to enter to get the clues from this one?
