I emailed Alice to explain how unusual it is for a private display case to have a book presented as another book entirely. I suggested she re-examine both the book and the cover for possible messages, particularly the book, as if Marsh-Ayre knew Mythological Objects would become important to Alice at some point, she would be forced to break into the display case, something she probably wouldn't have done if it was just another copy of Alice in Wonderland she could've gotten anywhere.

Also I tried Christolina and Minaret for the peasant girl and king respectively - nothing new.

I'm fairly sure this hasn't been covered yet, but apologies if it has...

Looking at Mary Jane's Diary here, you can see the dates on the page have been changed.

In June 07, Monday was the 18th and Tuesday the 19th; in the image above it shows Tuesday as the 22nd and monday as the 19th (which tallies with what Slice tells us in her list).

That *has* to mean something, but I am at a loss as to explain what at this juncture.

Maybe it's related to Alice's watch starting to run backwards? That time isn't the same in the other world...?

Practicality

I hate to be practical, but I think it relates to the fact that they didn't have a 2007 diary lying around, so used a 2008 one and bodged the dates. If you look at the list for next month's (July) dates at the bottom, it's quite clearly 2008 with Monday and Tuesday on 21st and 22nd.
Also you can just see that the year on the next page ends with a number with a round bottom.

Edit - My personal theory about watches running backwards is more to do with the watch being 'mirrored' (which is why the whole mechanism was actually reversed. I'm sure if someone asks Alice nicely she can check to see if the numbers are backwards on her clock-face [although I'm sure she'll say it doesn't have numbers, only ticks]) rather than time going the wrong way.

I have to say, I can't argue with that reasoning Smile

Slice's blog

The last entry has gone.
Disappeared.
Weird...

Edit - did anyone have a screen shot of it, or have it still in a browser window? I had a theory I wanted to check, but now can't... Although as I think about it, it's not a very good theory :(

Eidt 2: Although the post has been deleted, the picture of the note from her parents is still in place: http://pics.livejournal.com/slicequeen/pic/000083rd/

Slice's deleted last post

I can't remember perfectly, I'm afraid, but it basically said how it wasn't just a dream world, but also had nightmares, how nothing staid the same, that she was worried about her parent, linked the picture in my above post, and how she was going to have to go back in to find her parents.
The way she described the place was VERY similar to the way the man in MythObs (Marsh-Ayre?) describes the landscape that he is in.

From my cache:

Turns out that dream fairylands also contain nightmares.

As soon as I got back I found this note in the kitchen. Ma and Pa have gone down there! I wish I had time to say more, but I've got to go back and find them. It's so easy to get lost there, places shift around and change, and you lose track of time.

I haven't called the police. What are they going to say to a wacko american girl with some crazy story about a rabbit hole? And I don't think Jacomo would be a happy bunny if a team of detection dogs came down his burrow.

What really happened to Mary Jane? First mom said it was a car crash, with a strange animal, then she starts telling people it was a plane crash.

It's stupid, I've wished enough times that my parents would disappear forever, and now all I want is them back here, yelling at me about insignificant, normal life problems.

Thanks both of you, wasn't expecting a reply that quickly!

I'm glad the slice story is carrying on, maybe we'll get a couple more updates this week? We don't seem to be getting much from the latest story other than the riddle and the library page so maybe slice's blog will carry on updating over this week with a few more clues...

Tarot

Alright, so I've been accused in the past of flogging dead horses, but I'm pretty sure about this whole tarot thing, now.
In addition to my previous rant, I've been thinking about the hands pointing up and down, and, of course, with a snake eating its own tail as a belt, with roses and lilies at his feet, there's the magician.

The hermit, as well, has a description with staff and lantern, which is too accurate:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:RWS-09-Hermit.jpg
to be a coincidence. It may not be only about Tarot, but it's definitely involved...

Edit: This (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rider_Waite_Smith_Tarot) is one of the most famous tarot decks (used, as well, by wikipedia for its illustrations) and the images seem to correspond strongly with those in the story, so when looking for other similarities it's the one I'll be using!

The Tarot thing seems set, to me, with the references to The Hermit, The Tower and the Moon that I've been flogging.

I'm not willing to let the date thing slide, however... the date on the page opposite the 19th (which wasn't a monday!) is certainly the 22nd. Neither fit into June 08 -- 16/17 and 23/24 are the only pairs that work (looking at my calendar), which just sits too strangely.

Given the time strangeness I'm not willing to let this go yet...

Starmaker
apologies for length of quotation

I wonder whether the 'starmaker' has anything to do with Olaf Stapleton's 1937 book of the same name. I attach a quotation which may support this theory:

Many times in the early part of my dream I felt doubt as to what the Star Maker was striving to accomplish in his creating. I could not but believe that his purpose was at first not clearly conceived. He himself had evidently to discover it gradually; and often, as it seemed to me, his work was tentative, and his aim confused. But at the close of his maturity he willed to create as fully as possible, to call forth the full potentiality of his medium, to fashion works of increasing subtlety, and of increasingly harmonious diversity. As his purpose became clearer, it seemed also to include the will to create universes each of which might contain some unique achievement of awarenes and expression. For the creature's acheivement of perception and of will was seemingly the instrument by which the Star Maker himself, cosmos by cosmos, woke into keener lucidity…

At length, so my dream, my myth, declared, the Star Maker created his ultimate & most subtle cosmos, for which all other were but tentative preparations. Of this final creature I can only say that it embraced within its own organic texture the essences of all its predecessors; and far more besides

Such organic creation is remarkably similar to that which we are experiencing in this story.

I am not sure how this would fit into the Tarot or Alice themes tho...
