hmm, does anyone else think "Bella" might just be an invention of Jacques' to get Alice away from the mirror? From the looks of that card he either is or knows the mysterious doctor...

Afraid I will have to beg to differ on that point. The Magician appears in a different form in many of the Eastern European game cards, as quite a tricky and deceptive little trump. He is the lowest scoring trump, but incredibly useful to have on your side! He is then followed by the suits, King, Queen, Rider or chariot, and knave or Jack. There are then a few pip cards, with the lower pip cards discarded for the game.

I think this confirms that Jacques is a part of the story too... Does he correspond to one of the tarot cards in any way? A Jack perhaps? Or is he supposed to be Jack Rabbit?

Embarassed

Doctor is often linked to the Magician Batgirl

Does that count for the other ones as well, though? Specifically the hermit. I know that in the European games that trumps 1 and 21 are considered important, and 22 also as the 'excuse' but I wasn't aware that any of the rest of those had the same imagery as the divinatory pack... Basically I'm interested if there's any packs that actually have both the Queen of Hearts (not cups) and the hermit and magician, tower, perhaps, etc.

Dormice

Complete random aside, but as we've been talking about there's an article on Dormice (introduced with Alice in Wonderland) on the One Show. They're all dying out - and not because they have gone down rabbit holes.

The good Dr.

Quote:
Half a label is stuck to the back "The mirror of Dr…" But the rest is missing.

I think this Doctor bit is a red-herring. To me the Dr... is likely to be short for Dreams, perhaps? And it's just been mis-read.

I am still researching, Wukka, but so far have been unable to find the other cards in the Eastern decks as they tend to go by numbers, not names! However, if you go by the numbers then the others must be there. I am trying to find as many pics as poss to compare the symbolism, and will post as soon as I have a more definitive answer!

Thanks,

I'm afraid I'm off, now, or I'd try to help!

Good luck...

The note from Marsh-Ayre called it "the doctor's mirror" though, I can't remember which post it was in but there was a photo of the note on treacle and ink somewhere.

could be a Red Herring but it's a lot of a coincidence, so I'm going for a cloo.

either way I def think Jacques is up to something, he knows far too much - damn those sneaky French! Still on the plus side he's getting Alice away from the mirror for a night...although what's the betting she's sneaks away for some quality mirror time?

EDIT: Don't think it's been mentioned on here, but it was on the blog: If you copy and paste Splice's email from the blog it gives a subject:

hmm, maybe we need to send slice a few messages? maybe she'll come back with some more clues then.

Or maybe we suggest she goes to see Alice and takes that copy of mythological objects with her. I wonder if slice lives anywhere near muswell hill...

That's not a bad idea, Splice would maybe go for that.
