I replied to Jacques saying I'd be interested in hearing about any other stuff he has for sale, especially anything to do with mirrors.

I also emailed Alice to tell her who was selling stuff

There is an LJ messaging system, yes.

Anyone have any suggestions as to where we should tell her to look for Mary Jane? I'm doing it via a proxy as I don't have an LJ account, and as she's not going to be up for a couple of hours you have a little bit of time. Smile

I messaged phoenixjez/jen, saying I am very worried about slice and asking if she found anything about MJ, how she died maybe, and I suggested she must definitely have had a blog somewhere.
I tried to look for the blog myself, but nothing.
Still no answers to the message, but it's quite late down in california right now Wink

EDIT: sorry.... it's not late, it's early, down in california!

Here's Alice's reply:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I am shocked. This is my "Jacques from the shop". Can you tell me how you know the seller's name?

Thank you,
Alice Klein

I've sent her the listing URL and said the name from from the email address. Although just realised that I never gave the address to her as I never share emails without permission!

Reply from Alice re: my request for a book on scrying

Quote:
Dear Thomas -

Sorry to disappoint, but we don't stock any books on magic tricks. The link you make with ink and treacle is very amusing and ingenious, though!

All the best,
Alice

Also just got a note from Alice:
Quote:
Thank you for your concern. I don't think I'm *addicted* exactly, more that I like using it a lot. If you love someone, and you want to spend all your time with them, is that an "addiction"? I can still tear myself away to run the shop and make dinner, after all.

I'm not sure if we are really supposed to get her to stop using the mirror, if feels more like the story will unfold through her use. My only worry is, if she is sucked into the mirror, who will we interact with then??

I got this reply:

Quote:
Daisy -

This is very shocking to me. That is my Jacques' email address. I'd like to think there's an innocent explanation, but I can't think of one. Where did you say you found this information? I want to get my facts straight before I confront him.

Very best, and thank you,
Alice

To which I replied:

Quote:
Hi Alice,

I'm sorry to have brought you this bad news. The book was for sale through this link: http://london.craigslist.co.uk/bks/627723210.html

Also, I've heard he is planning to sell more items so please keep an eye on all of your things!!!!!

Daisy

and received this reply very shortly after:
Quote:
Hi Daisy -

I'm sorry to receive such bad news, but I'm grateful to you for letting me know. I suppose I'll have to talk to Jacques now. I'm so bad at confrontation.

But, thank you. From what you say, it sounds as if I need to get him out of the shop.

All the very best,
Alice

Sounds like we'll be getting a blog update soon based on the confrontation....

Date coincidence

I mean that in the more etymologically exact way.

http://www.sabian.org/alicech11.htm

About halfway down:

Quote:
`You ought to have finished,' said the King. `When did you begin?'
The Hatter looked at the March Hare, who had followed him into the court, arm-in-arm with the Dormouse. `Fourteenth of March, I think it was,' he said.
`Fifteenth,' said the March Hare.
`Sixteenth,' added the Dormouse.
`Write that down,' the King said to the jury, and the jury eagerly wrote down all three dates on their slates, and then added them up, and reduced the answer to shillings and pence.

When did the ARG start (well, roughly)?

I like that.

Some one's busy at the email today - here's my latest.

Quote:
Do you have a copy of the email he sent you? If I'm going to confront him I want to show him the proof in black and white.

Thank you for your help. I'm really upset by this news, but I suppose it's best to know the truth about people.

All the very best,
Alice

So I forwarded the email.

I did send the link to buy the book to Alice as soon as I saw it, literally just got the reply:

Quote:
Hi Vicki -

That sounds intriguing! Do let me know if you get hold of a copy of the book.

All the best,
Alice

Evidently she wanted us to do the work for her, and now someone has bought the "book". It seems to me we now need to find out who else was so interested in it to actually "buy" is before any of the rest of us could get our hands on it. Clearly Marsh-Ayre doesn't need it, he knows what's there already, also Jaques didn't want anything to do with it, as we are assuming he is the one who wanted to get rid of it... "Quick sale required"
So who else would be so desperate to get hold of it? If the people Alice is writing about in her book are as trapped in the Other Place as Marsh-Ayre is, and they are "contacting" her through the mirror, maybe one of them has infiltrated the internet too and want the book to get home. Equally it could be someone who wants to prevent those trapped people from getting back. And I agree, I think we could be looking at a possible disappearance of the mirror very soon......

I suspect [pure spec] that the villian of the piece is either Hattie Loon//Mad Hatter or the Mysterious Third (Doris Mowse anyone?), but my money is on Hattie. She stored all the "junk" in March Hare's shop, and was spending time with him. I think she snared him into being lost through the looking glass. Possibly also planted the idea that Alice would look after the shop.

I also reckon Jacques will prove to be a good guy, I think it's misdirection at the moment and we're just supposed to suspect him...

Although a couple of things don't quite tie up at the moment, based on March Hare's profile on Spinankle:

1) He says
Quote:
But we were foolish. I, especially. After what happened to Hattie, I should have known better
Which implies the Mad Hatter had been sucked through already, however, as noted above I smell a rat (no a rabbit, no a dormouse, no wait a hare...)

2) He also says
Quote:
Go and tell Alice. She's the only one who can find out what's on the cards
and as far as we can determine Alice knows nothing about cards, or what is going on... amnesia?

on the cards...

One card Alice mentioned and has not followed up on since was the business card that fell out of Jacques pocket...

Quote:
I noticed that as he did, a business card with the words 'The Doctor' fluttered to the floor. He quickly grabbed it and thrust it back into his pocket. Don't think I didn't have a number of interesting questions to ask about this, but a crying Frenchman isn't the easiest person to interrogate.
