Jaques is pleased with the things we gave him, and has given the guys something in return, though I don't know what as yet!

Me either, Batgirl sounded really excited!

BTW, just noticed something odd about the time on Alice's blog...

Maybe her clock was going backwards again?

I am sure all the efforts they went to will have been appreciated - cakes, poems and all! Very Happy

looking behind the curtain

This is looking behind the curtain so I've spoilered it.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

I read this in the Guardian today. It looks like we have a writer for the Alice blog. http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2008/apr/10/games.childprotection
Naomi Alderman isn't listed as one of the six writers so we have an Alice.

I'm excited to get our report back from the meeting with Jacques.
I'm in Toronto. An English Ex-pat but still playing long distance.

I don't miss them, I spent far too much money trying to complete my set.

BTW the story's started

EDIT: What's the odds that this story ends with Terry cutting his head off? (was going to just go with killing him, but brought in a little Aliceness)

EDIT 2: Some strange italics creeping in today, possibly next hint??

EDIT iii: the italics have changed, still italic, but not merged into the next word anymore. Still the closest thing I've seen to a cloo.

I missed the italics, where were they?

EDIT: I see, I missed them in all the excitement. Well spotted!

I can't access the page at the moment, but there was a "for" then "I" in Terry's section that kinda stood out for me.

I've looked back at previous days, and there are virtually no italics, so it's a possibility.

EDIT: After re-reading it, I reckon i was just clutching at straws, sorry guys.

EDIT 2: Is the live event still going, or has everyone headed off to the pub?

Live event has finished, but looks like we got some cool leads to follow. Pictures etc to follow from Rach et al.
We also got the rules of a game, the instructions Spinankle was talking about, I suspect.
Can't wait to see everything!!

It's late and there's too much stuff to write up now. But it will come!

What we have are instructions for playing a game using Major and Minor Arcana and the scoring systems, based on a game from Dr Jahn Dee. Plus 2 pages of notes from Marsh-Ayre talking about the mirror.

I've got video of the meeting to put up, where we all chatted to Jacques, who was lovely and lovelorn, handing out pressies in return for muffins, pictures, poems, origami and rings.

Meeting with Jacques... part 1

So we arrived at the Jerusalem Tavern with about 5 or 6 mins to spare. Wukka and Amadeus were there already and had already scouted it for a potential Jacques. We waited outside for a while chatting and looking out for a man looking French heading into the place when we realised it was already 5:35pm, so we went inside…Jacques must had snook in through the side entrance!

The well groomed man drinking a glass of red wine by himself at a table had to be our man. Wukka approached him asking if he was Jacques and he replied by barely lifting his head and in a very depressed voice muttering "Oui". Wukka asked if we could join him and he gave a very French "meh" and moved his bag for us. He even complained that it was a squeeze for us all to fit in.
We enquired about him having 'items' which might interest us but he didn't seem very forthcoming until we mentioned that we had brought things for Bella, his lady love. He still seemed very glum but was enthusiastic then as Rachel (Chelec) handed him the painting of pansies she had painted for him that morning. He was overjoyed at this, despite still never cracking a smile, proclaiming how Bella would love this and she was amazing for having painted it. He gave her a book in return, which contained four pieces of notes.
Next, I handed over the box of the muffins I had baked, packaged in a dragonfly covered box and lined with hearts paper. Once again he seemed overwhelmed and handed me what he called a 'special item' wrapped in newspaper. It was a tiny wooden dresser which had four pieces of notes hidden inside it – dexterous fingers were required to retrieve them!
Chris (Amadeus) then presented the poem he had written about Bella, and once again Jacques seemed very happy with this, thrusting it back into Chris' hands for him to read it out aloud…as his English wasn't very good. Chris obliged with a smile and received a book for his trouble, which contained a handwritten note in the same writing as the one Alice found, and one more piece of note similar to those we had already received.
I then handed over Veebee's poems, printed on paper with flowers pressed into it and wrapped in heart covered paper. He was amazed and he leafed through them. "'Ow many are 'ere?" he asked in amazement. "Nine in total" I replied, and he asked me to read part of one of them out, so I read out the first section of the poem titled 'Sorrow'. He held his had to his chest proclaiming this was exactly how he felt. He handed me a book to pass on to Veebee then, which contained another handwritten note and another piece of note. I called up Veebee on then so that he could thank her personally as well but I don't know what was said in that conversation so Veebee will have to enlighten us there.
Melinda (MSeckington) then gave him her gift which was a song, which she performed for us and we all applauded afterwards. Jacques was so happy with this as well (though I'm not sure he memorised the tune) and he gave her a small box marked Wedgewood wrapped in newspaper, which contained a small porcelain plate and four more pieces of notes.
I then presented the piece de resistance (couldn't resist) which was the ring from Mary-Jane's diary. Jacques obviously had no idea of the significance but I assured him that no woman could resist jewellery and he gratefully accepted it and handed me another book which contained another four pieces of notes. By this time I was wishing I had packaged up Veebee's poems separately!
Lastly, Chris (Amadeus) attempted to reassemble his origami rose. He couldn't get the leaves to work right and Jacques dismissed it as something which wouldn't impress Bella. Eventually he gave up on the leaves and assembled the 3 layered rose which we persuaded Jacques was beautiful in its own right and he finally accepted it as a gift he could give Bella and he handed Chris a box wrapped in newspaper which contained a mug which had a Alice Cheshire Cat on it, the cat disappears when the cup is filled with hot liquid… of course the Grin doesn't disappear Smile This also contained four pieces of notes.

When we had run out of things to trade, I passed on Alice's message of apology and Jacques didn't seem too impressed but did say that he would go and see her.
Jacques dismissed us then and we regrouped afterward to go through the loot…..
