If, we think he was going for the path of passage, that would mean he would hold the following cards (I think someone pointed this out, AP?)
Judgment 20
The Sun 19
The Moon 18
The Star 17
The Tower 16

= 90

Obtaining The Wheel of Fortune, worth 10, would have completed his Path.

Not necessarily...6 other combinations of cards would also add up to 100 - see my post above.

e.g.
Judgement 20
Sun 19
Moon 18
Star 17
Temperence 14
Hanged Man 12

=100

The only card common to all possible combinations is Judgement, which is why I thought he should go for that one next. I agree though, that we may still be missing some vital information about the rules e.g. if specific cards are needed for certain paths. And we don't know for certain which cards he has already.

Also, just thought, didn't MA talk about how the rules keep changing wherever he is, in one of his posts... Shocked

We do know for sure that he had 3 cards, including The Hermit:

Quote:
Sometimes a chap simply needs a quiet place to think. Time to himself. Regroup. Plan of attack. Can get hard to think in this place. Need to remember where one has come from, make operational plans. Fortunately, the third card is a quiet one. I imagine a library. Here I am.

Now, unless he has swapped The Hermit for another, higher points card, at some point we don't know about, he can't have achieved the Path of Passage without The World, which he has given away...

Then we are told that The Fool has messed up his plans.

So his is only changing his path now, after receiving The Fool.

The highest score he could have made, using The Hermit and Losing The World willingly, is 99.
Which means he MUST have declared a Path of Kingship (90) or a lower Path at the beginning of the game, based on the cards he was dealt.

Ray & Lynn
Unrelated to the cards, but I just remembered....

....two of the houses Ray & Lynn went to see only had one bedroom. Was Slice supposed to sleep outside or something?!

Playing the game

OK, so I've got my cards out, and am playing three hands against each other. Now I have just thrown a duel where the cards are the same value, both Knights. As the rules don't tell us what to do in this situation, I can think of 3 solutions.
1) The duel is declared a draw, the cards discarded, new ones drawn from the deck and play continues to the next person.
2) The suits themselves have a hierarchy, sword beats cup type of thing
3) The duel is drawn, the cards discarded, new ones drawn from the deck and the duel takes place again between the same players.

Which one should it be?

I'll continue the game using the first solution, but what are your thoughts?

Playing the game
the result!

Here's how I found it!

If there are 3 people playing, there are 12 rounds of duels.
In my 12 rounds, I had 3 swaps declined because the other person did not have a card I was looking for. ( I never asked for a specific card, just a card from one of the chapters.)
I found that the Fool changed hands a lot. He was used in a duel at the end of the game and won, as he is a Major and beat the minor he was up against.

This could be a very dirty, sneaky game, especially if you have suspicions about which cards someone has, which to a certain extent you might because of the swaps.

The Result.

Player 1 chose the path of Motion - 55. Player 1 scored 55 points with all 5 of his scoring cards = 110 points.

player2 chose th path of Man - 45. Player 2 scored 45 points with 4 out of 6 scoring cards = 90 points

Player 3 chose the path of Kingship - 90. All player 3's cards added up to 100, with no combination making 90. = 100 points.

D*mn I bet player 3 is wishing they'd gone for the path of Passage now!

I'm holding off on the spec about cards until we get the next two installments - there's just too much guesswork, and supposition here. Given most of the clues we have found so far have been reasonably clear, I believe there will be some clarity given about the cards too.

Wouldn't be the first time I was wrong though...

BTW, Veebee, there's no need for multiple posts, you can edit the first one and add to it. I'm not sure why, but it's considered poor form to do multiples.

I must admit it was starting to get a bit silly when I was trying to work out whether the "his and hers mugs" from Your Place And Mine represented the Two Of Cups Razz

Phew, just caught up on writings since last night! I think the musings on here speak for themselves that we really do need more information before we can continue, although Alice does need to understand what we have discovered, considering that M-A says she is the only one who can help (maybe because of the cloos he left her in the books etc we got from Jacques?)

Has anyone emailed her about it? Has anyone heard from her since her last blog post that was 3 days ago now?! I feel like we should be making a trip to Muswell Hill to check if there's been a break-in or if she's disappeared behind the mirror herself!

I was starting to think the same. All the build up to the live event, then nada. We need to know if she's still using, or if she's managed to stop herself, at least she has kinda accepted that the mirror is baaad. It would also be good to know if Jacque has contacted her.

We def need to let her know about the notes, and the new article/ book review. I'll drop her a note about the latter, but those that went to the meet should take the credit and email her?

I actually thought I'd done quite a lot of useful research, but never mind. Multiple post happened because most of the stuff just happened to come up at different times. It's no actually my fault that no-one happened to post in between.

Sorry

Won't post again tonight, promise

EDIT: Yeah, e-mailed Alice earlier
EDIT: OK

Hey I wasn't saying what you posted wasn't useful, I think it will be really good once we've got a better grasp of the hands at play.

All I was saying was if no-one has posted after you to go in and edit your post and add the new info. Like I say I'm not sure what the thinking is behind it, I was just trying to be helpful.

Hope she's OK back in the shop and doesn't either look at the mirror, or have a break-in...

Just reread the latest blog, sounds like the mirrors power can almost extend to any dark reflective surface now. That's not good.
