Spoiler (Rollover to View):
i think it's some kind of clue in the order in which you do things. after all the story's subtitle is "there are two ways to tell a story" i.e. like there are two ways to tell shaan azads story. I'm thinking if you go one way round and do stuff you might get a different result than if you went the other way round. but thats pure specualtion as I can't find a thing different in either case so far.

The two versions of the story are:
Quote:
The man rests.
In resting he recognizes himself losing himself, becoming one with creation.
Some would say he is at his most alive.
The man lies flat.
He feels his breath — exhaling, inhaling.
Without his breath he would not be.
The man sits.
His legs seek not to impose their will on the world.
But his back — ah, his proud back — desires a better view.
The man stands upright.
His head moves on his neck, casting his gaze about him.
His vision is clear and true.

and
Quote:
The man grasps the object of his ambition.
In grasping it, he recognizes himself transcending himself, becoming one with creation.
Some would say he is at his most alive.
The man runs until his lungs begin to burn.
He revels in his freedom, the freedom of an animal.
The freedom of an unfettered soul.
The man walks.
Steering himself and yet well within himself.
Untiring, he endures.
The man stands upright.
His head moves on his neck, casting his gaze about him.
His vision is clear and true.

So one version is lying down > sitting > standing
The other is runing > walking > standing

two sides of a story, but opposites? Dum & Dee ?

EDIT: BTW when you copy and paste the sections numbers show up, I think the numbers change with each section though and they don't seem like a telephone number

I thought the whole idea of the story was that it was circular, it is only one story, but read one way round it's a man grasping his ambition and slowly settling down, whereas read the other way it's a settled, quiet man gradually becoming more active then grasping his ambition.

Nice story I thought anyway, I feel quite sad for the old general, on his way out, a new government, noone consulting him anymore...

In safari, if you play with the little map, the nodes have numbered tooltips. I can't get it to work in firefox, so I don't think it's important. I couldn't get anything special to happen reading the story in that order either. You do end up on the roof though, which fits nicely with the twinkly stars...

can anyone get anything from this? it's the javascript for how the map's drawn, and the nodes, and links to all the different text, should be able to get a solve from this if there's anything hidden in the story.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
http://www.wetellstories.co.uk/js/week6/script.js

http://www.wetellstories.co.uk/stories/week6/nodes.js (this looks like it shows that there aren't any places to go that you can't get to from the start, ie. the '3' the '0' and the '8', also gives links for all the text in each window)

www.wetellstories.co.uk/js/utils.js (not sure what this is, doesn't look like ti's to do with this story though)

Those 2 stories, men sitting, standing etc, reminds me of a PXC card, Neography.

I've noticed some reference to chapters, my story says I'm in chapter 3 at the moment, also in that javascript I posted, not sure what this means.

also is anyone else dissappointed that there's no "Which way do you want to go? N You go North. It is pitch black. You are eaten by a grue."

I may be on my own here, the Zork games aren't exactly current....

Has anyone emailed Alice and Dormouse about the Contrariwise update? Think we need another nudge from them about the next card for The March Hare? Or maybe we're supposed to figure it our from here?

Can't hurt can it, although alice has been strangely quiet. I emailed her last week and didn't get reply, apart from the automated one...
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

Not sure if we're meant to figure out the next card. It would help if we could figure out what goal we're trying to reach....are we just trying to beat doom? In that case The Hanged Man lets us complete the path of man for 90 points which is beating him at the moment (presumably MA didnt call the path of man so he'd have to lie about that).
If we're trying to get the path of passage still though that's pretty impossible...
Alternatively we could still be trying to stick it to doom by taking the cards he wants, if he can't get the wheel of fortune for 10 points he'll probably want Judgement for 20, which will let him complete the path of passage.
basically I don't have a clue Very Happy

Read the previous page of the forum, I mention Zork there..... (though may have slightly mis-quoted) Smile

Tried going around the circle different ways, hasn't helped - do you think the numbers might be significant, or am i just chasing wild geese?
I know last week was just 1 story, but maybe we'll hear more in this one, to give as another number(s) & find out what's going on

Has anyone checked up on Slice recently? I keep wanting her to turn up with M-A

Thoughts (my brain has just come alive with them!:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
1) M-A's on a game show & a recording studio in the story - connection?
2)Any idea who the General might be - another unmaned character!
3)could the numbers refer to Alice chapters? (the "0" could be a dedication or something) or part of the MO, or a date, or a time....

Just re-reading Alice's encounter with Tweedledum & Tweedledee: http://www.literature.org/authors/carroll-lewis/through-the-looking-glass/chapter-04.html

specifically the poems:

Quote:
`Tweedledum and Tweedledee
Agreed to have a battle;
For Tweedledum said Tweedledee
Had spoiled his nice new rattle.

Just then flew down a monstrous crow,
As black as a tar-barrel;
Which frightened both the heroes so,
They quite forgot their quarrel.'

Should we be looking for a montrous crow?
Also could the Walrus and the Carpenter be important somehow, The Moon and Sun are both mentioned.

very random:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
or could it have something to do with Oyster cards? another trek in London perhaps?!

How long can a post be? I'm new to this! is this too long? well...it's getting a little longer

BTW AP Laughing

BTW (2) Have still not "got" The White Knight" story - sorry! I like it as a story, but previous comments make me think I'm missing something. any hints, something to point me in the right direction?

'Fraid not, still need a lot of silvers myself! Wink

I am intrigued by this extension number. It obviously has to go with something...
