Incidentally...

... should we now be writing 'Hanged Man' stories on contrariwise?

Not sure, I suspect we need a bit more of a prompt before we do. No harm in being prepared though....!

Has anyone thought to e-mail Jaques about Alice's seeming absence? At least he could go and "check" at the shop?

The last tory is based on "Tales from the 1001 Nights" Could Shahrazad be linked to Shaan Azad somehow?
If so, would that help us at all? Wink

Well I'm not volunteering to go round the loop 1001 times to see what happens!

Laughing maybe Andy will end up going round 1001 times in the quest to find the right way around!

Well done for finding the site. I too tried googling the site, serves me right for thinking google is all powerful...
hmmm...the (former) all powerful search engine and its labyrinth...

Remind me...what's Jacques' email address? Also, what about the other things he gave you guys when you met him? maybe we missed a clue in the plate etc.?

EDIT:am I the only one having trouble accessing Contrariwise?

I didn't have the address as it was a reply through outlook thing, which I don't have set up. I can't see anything in the book I had, but will have another look.

My bookmark for CW seems to be OK....

okay, after repeated attempts I got back into contraiwise. re-read the White Knight & saw what I'd missed

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
read too much before, kept reading every line initial, not every other one

My excuse is I've had a very busy time recently!

Pegs = endgame?

Just a small thing I noticed:

Acutely Leveraged Infrastructure and Commodity Equilibriums -
Private Equity and Global Solutions

Alice PEGS

Pegs appear in Through the Looking Glass, the Queen is putting pegs into the garden, in the build up to Alice's meeting with Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee.

Edit: A.L.I.C.E. UPDATE!!!!!! from Thomas...

Edit 2: Cracked it:

the true names of the two brothers

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
got to be Dan and Adrian, surely
Smile

So we need to find a queen

In 'through the looking glass' alice meets the Red Queen...doesn't say how on wikipedia but rather importantly I think the red queen advises alice on how to become a queen by starting as a pawn and progressing to the back row. perhaps we need our Alice to become a queen? Maybe if she goes into the mirror and imagines a game of chess?

I'm not sure whether she's the centre of MA's world though, all he's said about her is he's kept 'a watchful eye on her career' not very centre-of-worldish really...

The other possibility is hattie could be the centre of his world. Makes more sense, love interest? we don't know anything about their relationship

And I have no clue as to the names of the brothers...

And so are we to assume that:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Hattie is the centre of Thomas' world, and therefore his Queen

and that

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Tweedledum and Tweedledee are the brothers' true names?

Edit: Sorry, didn't see post above. I reckon it's Hattie even if Thomas doesn't know it himself yet...

From T&I:
Quote:
At last, not long after that, Hattie fell into a coma from which she couldn't be woken. Thomas was distraught. Dorcas thinks he might have had feelings for Hattie, although he was too wrapped up in the project to notice. He worked feverishly to find a way to recover her.

yeah probs Very Happy

I'm not sure about tweedledum and tweedledee...we worked that out so long ago it seems odd to be presented to us as a puzzle now, but I guess we've just surpassed expectations Very Happy

The assertion that
Quote:
Each person must find his own Queen
hints that potentially there could be more than one queen. Hattie seems to fit the role for Thomas, though I very much like the idea of Alice going into the mirror in the endgame.

Quote:
you need to know the true names of the two brothers. The names they have hidden.

Didn't someone mention Ursula K. Le Guin and the Wizard of EarthSea way back when. I'm sure in the EarthSea stories, knowing someone or something's true name gives you mastery over it...

BTW where is Alice?
