Slicequeen

I have got so used to referring to Slice as Slice, and now what you have said has just made me remember her full nickname: SLICEQUEEN...

IngyW wrote:
Alice (and Dorcus) could be the help from the outside, which implies that the Queen is already in the mirror. This is probably Hattie, unless Alice (my first thought as Queen, purely because of reading The White Knight so much!) is now in the mirror - we still haven't heard from her have we? Is she in a coma too?

Alternatively, is Slicequeen, a character from one of the most ARG-like episodes of the six stories, about to appear in the seventh story? There is definitely a loose end there, though of course some writers like to leave things hanging in the air...

[OOG] Not sure how happy Toby Litt would be for the character to be subsumed into an ARG with a different author, though, unless of course he is involved in the writing of the endgame... [/OOG]

PS Sorry for my previous post. It was silly and it won't happen again.

EDIT removed treacle and ink references to the next message for clarity

I have the card in front of me. It's Temperance. And on the back is written, in handwriting I haven't seen before: "love is better than power, and synergy than kingship".

So can we assume that Alice is somehow going to pass Temperance to The Mad Hatter?

EDIT: So based on the note:
Quote:
"love is better than power, and synergy than kingship".
surely this relates to the paths? In which case is it telling us that the hand The Mad Hatter should go for is really the path of Love as it's the least points? i.e. making it clear what the previous clue was about everything being reversed.

It sounds that way.

So in the end, "Love conquers all"...

Sounds like it, here's an analysis of his points/possible paths.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
well if thomas gets temperance he's onto 47, with 6 cards...he'd then need to get the Empress to get the path of synergy, or somehow get Strength or the Chariot (which I think doom has) to be able to make a total of 8 for the path of love.

He can't get ANY path at the moment though, even if he got temperance he still couldn't make a path total.
(this is assuming his cards are Death (13), Hermit (9), Mage (1), Fool (0) and Wheel of Fortune (10))

also did anyone else in london find the sentence about the tube hilarious "The tube is so peaceful, with the quiet carriages and the cool breeze. A taste of old-world luxury." Are we sure she's not in the mirror world? Razz

Edit: Also, I emailed Alice last week asking what hospital Hattie was at and whether she'd had any possessions when she went in. The great advantage of having so many theories is that some of them are bound to be true Very Happy

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Also just though, if he needs the Empress for the path of synergy...could he get it from his Queen? queen/empress empress/queen, Is that the reason he needs to find his queen, to get this card? just a thought.

Something new on Slice's Blog!

Well, more a note from "(Anonymous)" posted up Friday, presumably by Toby Litt:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
For the long way round (& a puzzle) go to http://www.tobylitt.com/ and look for Hares

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

http://slicequeen.livejournal.com/2788.html

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
leads to a website http://www.tobylitt.com/morehares.html I can't remember, did we give up on the dates in MJ's diary, or doesn't he know about us? either way, I'm off for another look

I'm hoping that this is related to our story & not just an advert for his latest book or something...

EDIT:A similar note appears on Ray & Lyn's blog too.

EDIT:Need help!! I hope other people read this soon & help me out Wink

Good spot Ingy

Sounds like a rap on the knuckles for us! "I was a little disappointed" - like in a school report when it says "could do better".

The ISBN number is

The People's Music
Ian MacDonald
Paperback - Pimlico (Jul 2003) - 272 Pages
ISBN 1844130932 - ISBN-13 9781844130931

Has anyone got it? Or access to a bookshop on Sunday? I believe this will just confirm the Nick Drake connection that someone noticed a while back (edit - think it was iamba_si).

I'm rather suspicious off all those blank lines of text at the bottom of that page. I've tried trawling through the source, though, and couldn't find anything.

Okay here's what I got so far:

I got the ISBN and checked it on Amazon. One review was by a guy with the nickname of "Middlerabbit" but not hare, so probably a coincidence, as is the fact that he also reviewed The Beautiful South/Housemartins CD/DVD (my favourite group), and MacDonald also wrote books on The Beatles (my Mum's favourite group) and Shostakovich (my Dad's favourite composer). Probably not relevant…unless this whole ARG is just for me Laughing

Are Penguin and Pimlico related? I was expecting a Penguin book.

The Hare link goes to Ghost Story, a sample chapter. Link to the Marsh Agency (link broken) "who deal with foreign rights on my books" Foreign rights – in other places, Mirrorworld? I'm going to ask Alice if she has a copy of "The People's Music" or "Ghost Story"

Another link is to Durer's hare…one of my favourite pictures – coincidences are getting silly now…or else I'm getting paranoid - I'm glad there are no mirrors in here! Wink

Actually, totally unrelated, but HareLink does exist: http://www.harelink.biz/

EDIT: Also mentioned:
Quote:
no-one looked closely into the names of all the characters

So here's what I've got:
Slice[queen] aka Lisa
Ray
Lynn
Claribella-Pussywillow
Jacomo
Mary Jane
Betty
Joey

Could they be linked to Characters/cards in T&I?

I don't think the broken link's relevant since the Marsh Agency deals with other Toby Litt books
http://www.marsh-agency.co.uk/

Looks real enough to me.

Yeah I'd agree, the Marsh Agency looks OOG to me, I can't see anything about hares on the page though which bothers me if it's supposed to be a cloo.

The myspace link I think is just to get us looking at his page

The random links at the bottom I think are just random hare related items.

Which leaves the three puzzles at the top... and I've got nothing there Crying or Very sad

EDIT, OK the dates one, there's 6 dates and the clue is
Quote:
????-???? x 3 relevant
so this would be 3 sets of dates, ie 1401-2701, 1206-1906, 0108-2511, or maybe some other combination?

EDIT 2, the dates above would give 13.07. 56? 55?

EDIT 3 the only event I've found so far for that date is Ruth Ellis was the last woman to be executed in Britain

The start of a phone number?

I can't see MySpce extra pictures without logging in - I'm not a member and frankly, too tired to join today, so let me know what you find (does it help to join all social sites to play ARGs reguarly?!)

Been looking at the dates in MJ's diary, both on http://www.tobylitt.com/morehares.html and http://slicequeen.livejournal.com/871.html?thread=6247

still no joy yet. Tried the BBC On this Day, but nothing significant has jumped out at me.

Shocked Silly
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lewis_Carroll
Lewis Carroll was born on 27th January 1832 and died on 14th January 1898!

BTW looked at the picture of MJ's bookshelf and noticed the Toby Litt book there is called "deadkidsongs" - significant, considering what happened to MJ?

EDIT
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
1898-1832 = 66. 66x3 = 198

not sure how that helps...

Nick drake, born June 19th, died nov 25th!
Anne Frank ( of diary fame) born June 12th, last diary entry august 1st.

I think those are the most relevant events for the given dates, along with Lewis Caroll birth & death - thanks IngyW for that one.

The Anne Frank ref is a little tenuous, but as there is no official date for her death, it is the only one to work with. Going to have another look, just in case there is something else.

EDIT: these are the dates with their years

14/01/1898 LC died
27/01/1832 LC born
12/06/1929 AF born
19/06/1948 ND born
01/08/1944 AF last diary entry
25/11/1974 ND died

incidentally, Anne Frank was given a diary for her 13th birthday, and Nick Drake's latest album " Family Tree" was released last year on June 19th, his birthday.
