The image of Temperance shows a winged figure mixing water with wine (for who amongst the moderate would drink unwatered wine?)

Does this therefore become more significant?

I know about the card point reversal theories, and that's quite a high score, but are the Evil Twins still going for a BIG score? Wouldn't it be great if Thomas did finally find Hattie (or should I say Henrietta) and she gave him the final card Smile

Alternatively, if Thomas claimed that this was Synergy was his original declared path, wouldn't he get double points (100 = same point total for path of passage). Is this a sneaky way out of the mirror? Just thinking out loud again...

 		I am going to keep working on the Slice hare trail - even if it's not part of the main T&I ARG, it's still a puzzle. This won't stop me taking part in the main ARG though! As such here are my thoughts for the night:

The figure in the Temperance card traditionally has a foot on land, and a foot in the water; a foot on each side of the mirror? This could explain why this card was the one Hattie was holding. Also since the Temperance card is (usually) between Death and the Devil cards could that be another referance to the two D's? Which would be related to Dr. Doom, which to Dr. Dee?

Who is the Doctor?

Presumably this is the same Doctor who's card Jaques had; maybe he knows more about this? If Jacques (or Bella?) knows about the Doctor could one of them out in the real world? We havn't really found out about the Doctor this side of the mirror have we? Dorcus didn't mention anything specific about the Doctor in her post, is there something Jacques knows that she doesn't? As I mentioned in an earlier post, have Jacques and Dorcus met? Jacques never mentioned her. I can't help thinking he knows more than he's let on so far. Should we email him, so you think?

EDIT:just re-read Cabbage's post about Temperance. Good idea about Alice going into the mirror; another thought was the androgynousness (?) of the angel in the card, does that relate to the figure M-A met when the figure was all he/she?

wrt Toby Litt's post, I don't think this is significant for the Alice story but I'm glad he has posted it as I think we all felt there were a lot of loose ends with that story that we just hadn't found, let alone tied up. Worth pursuing for our own sanity but since I don't think the story of Slice can progress whether we figure them out or not, then I don't think we'll get the satisfaction or even confirmation that we should.

I had hoped that Slice would somehow figure in Alice's story as she seems to be in the same world as the mirror world, but maybe it isn't the same world - she didn't get there through the mirror and who's to say there aren't many story worlds out there...

wrt Alice, I'm on the edge of my seat now but I wish they'd given us something to do to help there - especially with Alice now possibly lost to the mirror too, she didn't acknowledge the information which had been emailed to her so we don't know if she'll be telling Thomas that Hattie is his queen and the true names of the brothers...

The doctor is bugging me though, I really think we need to get Jacques back on the scene to explain himself - he knows more than he's told us and I think it's about time we found out what.

Now I really need to get on with some work!!! Confused

I've had a nasty thought - what if Dorcas is the Doctor? Also I have a feeling someone may have mentioned this already, so apologies for stealing your thunder.

The evidence:

Dorcas is talking in a very odd style, calling TMA and Hattie by rather formal names given that the three of them were great friends. She also mentions that she was"hopeful that the operation was a complete triumph". Operation doesn't sound like the right word to me, rather medical...

Dorcas was telling Alice that she'd been asking for the mirror, but Alice didn't remember that.

Dorcas was the one who persuaded Alice to pass the card through the mirror - I can't get my head around it, but could someone check whether Temperance is actually a card which would help the Adversary rather than TMA?

Dorcas refused to go into the ward with Alice - was she worried Hattie might recognise her if she awoke?

She's "far from au fait with modern technology" - that fits with someone originally from the story world in which the others are stuck, rather than someone who works at the British Library.

It's probably nothing, but I felt I had to get it out to see whether anyone else is as paranoid as I am...

In MoreHares, Toby said that "The hare has gone to earth in the British Library", and that he wants to start chasing it again.

I suspect that Slice will re-appear as part of the endgame.

But I don't know how.....

Trust issues?
Hi all!

Spent most of yesterday reading the millions of posts up to this point! Started the story at the beginning but went on holiday and it seems like loads of progress has been made! Still not sure what the end result of this manic story is supposed to be?

Just thought i'd post quickly as a reply to hippyfrog:

Think conspiracy theories about Dorcas may be unfounded since the A.L.I.C.E website, which claims to be from TMH, mentions Dorcas as a partner in Hattie and his investigations into the mirror?
"Nonetheless, Hattie, Dorcas and I have done our own investigations. The game might be the only way out of here, but the people in the mirror world aren't just pawns."

Story time again. Looks like the working out was right about MAs points/paths, but MA seems a bit confused. We need stories that tell him a). that hattie is his queen and he must find her, and
b). what path/ cards he needs to get.
c). what temperance means, he didn't know, I think it's the foot-in-two-worlds meaning, maybe understanding this meaning will help him find hattie, who's stuck between two worlds.

as said before he needs the Empress for the path of synery or Strength or The Chariot to get the path of love...I'm not sure which we should council him to get...but love's worth more points (now things are reversed)

doom said "I hoped I wouldn't have to take this card. It's not, aheheh, my metier. But fairness of a sort is meted out in a torture chamber after all. I'll get there in the end and then…" So I think he got Justice from torturing Alice...which means he's on 84 (Devil 15, World 21, Moon 18, Sun 19, Justice 11) not sure what paths he'll go for though, probably a high one, doesn't look like he knows that reverse scores are in this season.

Is the handwriting Hattie's? Are the Diddums brothers going for the path of Kingship? In which case, if you're right Faustus, and they are on 84, then don't they need The Lovers (6 points) to bring their total up to 90 ((King) Melekh - The Path of Kingship - 90 points)? If Thomas gets the path of Synergy and Doom is going for the path of Kingship, then Thomas will win.

Is the idea perhaps to force the Lovers card on the twins by making Thomas Marsh-Ayre realise that Hattie Loon is his true love (everyone say Ahh!) and bringing them together, thus making the brothers complete the path of Kingship, whilst Thomas also gets the Empress card from his "Queen" and simultaneously completes the path of Synergy (which according to the handwriting beats the path of Kingship). The "love is better than power" then could be an axiom (as well as referring to the card score reversals)! And breathe.

What do you think?

 		Sounds good. However it works out though we want to tell thomas to find hattie, and that synergy beats kinship and love beats power. So if we just write stories focusing on those (and possibly mentioning the empress and/or strength) then Thomas should realise what to do.

I think it's the contrariwise wiki again too...unfotunately no time to write a story now, exams tomorrow and thursday...I hope I dont miss out on the grand finale Surprised

 		Wow, 12 pages to catch up on just finished. I got back from Texas yesterday and crashed after being up for nearly 30 hours all in all. Haven't read the General yet but have read up on all the ARG progress you guys have been getting done: great work BTW.

I completely agree with Cabbage on what we have to do next although I was kind of expecting us to have to draw lots of pictures to get MA to realise that Hattie (the painter) was his queen. This seems much more senisble though. Also, I know people have subtracted the years of Lewis Carroll et al on the Toby Litt site, but it didn't look like a subtraction sign to me, just a simple 1832-1898. Best to keep an open mind though, eh?

Well it doesn't look like I've missed the finale yet. All I've got to work out now is the most legal way to catch the first episode of the new series of Heroes.

I agree about the dates thing, we were just meant to work out who they were. But that is supposed to help us find Lisa/Slice, which I feel has some importance
I'm still wondering about Bella & Jaques, and their role in the denuement?!

I agree that Jacques may well figure again.

However, for the moment I am concentrating on the Alice story and have nearly finished my story (ok, I know that it is five o'clock in the morning). Will post it to contrariwise soon.

Edit: right, the first story is up in the * NEW STORIES * section of contrariwise. It's called The Travelling Medicine Show. Quite proud of the last line, actually! Very Happy

Now, 6 o'clock, do I go back to bed for an hour?

especially if you've been pursuing hares through my website, as a follow-up to the Slice story.

I'm impressed by what you've come up with so far.

A couple of things. Not Anne Frank, though that's a nice coincidence. More obvious than that.

Doesn't anyone have a Box of Fruit? It might help with naming.

The hare in one place becomes another hare in another place. Spooky.

And, as for Slice herself, Lisa/Alis, I'll have to metamorphose her, too.
