mbhulo - there's layers to this, we have the interactive story of Splice, but there's also the story of Alice and the looking glass...

ambien - def agree, there's too many stories about mysterious objects/ mystical beings who bestow talents as an excuse to suck the life/soul out of the poor idiot who falls for it. .. and it's already drawn blood... and the note ends:

which can only be words of caution... On the other hand if she doesn't go through the looking glass where's the story? Twisted Evil

black mirror
article

Here is an article about the use of black mirrors.

The black scrying mirror, or magick mirror, is a powerful psychic tool. It can bring the user hidden knowledge and clairvoyant ability and can act as a portal to other planes of existence....

Nope, I'm an actual real live person who is following the We Tell Stories stuff too. I assume I was linked from those articles because I just happened to be the first, I think, to write on the web about the clues I'd found.

Just thought I'd clear that up in case anyone was diverted from the stories/ARG proper and started stalking me beyond Twitter!

Anyway, looks like I've got a lot of catching up to do after my internet-free stint in France.

hotblack desiato

Hi all. I've been following this for a while now, and have posted a few comments on both journals under the name patrick/padders269.

Anyway Ray and Lynn have posted something interesting on their blog - a PDF file showing the three houses they're looking at today.

'Hotblack Desaito' is a real estate agent (made famous by Douglas Adams in The Restaurant at the End of the Universe - Hotblack is the lead singer of a band called Disaster Area) but the name is spelt wrong in the PDF file. It should be 'Hotblack Desiato', as in http://www.hotblackdesiato.co.uk/

I've had a poke about on the Hotblack Desiato website - the houses on Liverpool Road and George's Road are both listed there - but the third house on Riversdale Road (N5 2JT) isn't there at all.

Curiouser and curiouser.

EDIT: Ok, perhaps I just missed it earlier but all three houses ARE now listed on the Hotblack website. Apparently the Riversdale Road house is under offer, too, so maybe rayandlynn liked it a lot. You can see more pictures from all the houses if you click for full details, but because the Hotblack site still seems a bit borked I keep getting details for the house below the entry I actually clicked.

pffft.

Actually as coincidence would have it, my family are trying to sell the house we're living in at the moment, in West London. It's big and old too. Maybe I should invite them over. Razz

It the few times I've been here, I always end up talking to you Very Happy

Yah - I see that now. I didn't read all the press releases before getting into the game.

I think that might blunt my ... surprise at how ill suited blogs/tweets are to linear narrative - that there is an underlying story of Alice.

Good point Smile ...also she doesn't seem the type of person to heed warnings...

A couple of things - could the Doctor be Dr John Dee, the Elizabthan magician?

http://www.britishmuseum.org/explore/highlights/highlight_objects/pe_mla/d/dr_dees_mirror.aspx

Although how his mirror could have got out of the British Museum and into the store-room of a bookshop I don't know Confused

Also, can't help noticing Slice is only one letter different from Alice, and A and S are next to each other on the keyboard - coincidence?

Maybe I'm looking a little bit too deeply into things.

On your blog you seem to think the room numbers in the Balmoral Hotel are important - do you think there's something to be found there?

Got a reply from Alice.
Me:
Quote:
I've been following your blog with interest, I like mysteries! That note you found is clearly incomplete as it finishes mid sentence, did you find anymore pages?

Any ideas about the greek? I'll ask around, I'm sure I can find someone who knows it.

Reply:

You're right things are getting a bit mysterious around here! A half finished sentence is possibly one of the most tantalising things there is, I looked through the rest of the book - but nothing. I started looking through some of the other books, but then remembered I was in a bookshop and that madness lies that way. There's a Greek/English dictionary here, I can take a look when I have a moment.

I've replied to say it means Inspiration, and warning her to be careful with the mirror. I don't think she'll listen somehow, sounds like she's hooked already.

EDIT - Is Splice away already? Ray & Lynn's blog says she isn't in her room - surely this isn't over? they can't leave us hanging like that!! Although having said that the first story kind of left us hanging about the mysterious new job if I remember right.

I just convinced Lisa's parents, over twitter, that she went down the rabbit hole. I am now going to try to convince them to go down it themselves. Lets see what happens.

OH dear..reply from Alice:
Quote:
Thank you for your concern, but I don't feel particularly in any danger. I'm sure it's just lucky happenstance that my inspiration returned when I found the mirror. It's true that I only write when it's nearby, but it's more of a lucky rabbit's foot than anything else. I could give it up at any time
She's hooked already then...

..any thoughts on what I should say back?

Duh - I've been remarkably slow.

Marsh-Ayre was
Quote:
engaged on a project that was consuming a great deal of time and energy
and spent a lot of time in the back room with the mystery woman, both of them coming out
Quote:
glassy-eyed and dishevelled
So they were clearly losing energy to the mirror.

I don't think Marsh-Ayre went to the south of France....

EDIT: Double Duh! T. Marsh-Ayre = The March Hare

EDIT 2: have sent the folowing to Alice:
Quote:
Hmmm...if that's true, just turn it to the wall then and stop looking into it.

On a different matter, did Marsh-Ayre write? Was he doing anything before he left, to wherever he went...

I just had another thought, has there been any contact from Marsh-Ayre at all? When did he leave? and did anyone see him off? Also what about the mystery woman who used to go into the storeroom with him, has she ever been back?

A lot of questions, I apologise, but I suspect foul play...

21 Steps Messages

I was lucky enough to get the Alice, ring 020 ... message come up straight away, but got frustrated waiting for it to reappear - so I hacked the javascript and, as well as all the messages you see randomly, there a number that are commented out...

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

Initiating resonance cascade
Cleaning material emancipation grills
Baking
Finding bosons
Inhibiting progress bar
Exporting query data
Masking priorities
Pre-calculating Pi
This space intentionally left blank
Locating rabbit hole
Goldfarming
Triangulating faraway tree
Puncture-proofing reality bubbles

I've also spotted that there's a jacomo.livejournal.com - but it's all in Russian and the dates look wrong. The picture's interesting though.

@ALISDAIRPARK - good spot on Mr. Ayre's name!

EDIT: Doh! Hattie Loon =

The image on this post, http://houseinengland.wordpress.com/2008/03/28/15/, of the book index has to be from the Blue book that was on the book shelf, the one that started Mythological.. I never got a reply asking what the book title was.

A fair amount of those that are commented out are nerd jokes. Probably someone just got bored at the office XD
