BTW being new here what does "CF with Potential" mean? If we can open related threads, should we open one for Slice's story?

Chaotic Fiction with potential........to become a good, long ARG, just like we want it to?

I was thinking of starting a new thread about the whole Slice thing too, as at the moment it is running as a parallel, but we know it will collide with T&I at some point. I will have a trawl through UF and WLP today to collate what I can!

MayDay!
References to ARG players?!?

Almost certainly OOG, but this site tickled me because it's all about Alice's description of May Day.

http://mw.mcmaster.ca/scriptorium/alice_site/mayday_alice_end.html

Quote:
Mayday

Leave all your work behind today, for it is Mayday! They young men have run out into the woods to collect may blossoms and a straight branch for the may pole. When they get back they will plant it firmly in the ground in the middle of the village and what a time there will be.

They will put sweet blossoms on the doors of all the good girls of the village, but I know one or two young ladies who will get a cabbage instead. Naughty girls, they are, and everybody will know who they are before this day is through. But the best girl, now, she gets to be the Queen of the May and choose her lover for the day.

She will lead the rest of us women and girls in the dance around the may pole singing songs of love--songs that make fun of jealous old husbands and gossiping busybodies. The men are not left out of the merry-making. There will be the wrestling and foot races, and jumping contests, not to mention games of dice and cards to lose their pennies on. There will be competition from the next village too and when it is all over, plenty of ale to cool everyone down and give us a day to remember.

Cabbage gets a mention! Could the 'two young ladies' be batgirl and veebee?!
And it all ends up with card-games, eh?

I don't trust Jacques, I think he played the fool, pretending not to know what's up with the mirror. OK, he knows they should get rid of it, but if I were in his situation and were sincere, I would have never sold the mirror without asking alice or dorcus! so, maybe he has an agreement with the doctor... and there's surely something up with Bella we still don't know about. remember Jacques saying that
Quote:
"Bella is… and Marsh-Ayre, 'e never noticed zat…."
?

As for the tube, I agree with Faustus that it has simply become fictional (so maybe it has gone to the mirror world), as Doctor Doom said: the tube WAS like alice remembers it, but now that tube is fictional, it is a story in our eyes, and the tube as we know it (well... I don't, but I believe you!) is dr doom's creation.

[OOG] there are real good writers, out there at wetellstories, don't you think? I love all this story about stories and through stories and so on! [/OOG]

Slice Thread
to discuss the meaning of Slice...

Since we are looking at two major stories, I thought (as did IngyW) that a separate thread might be in order. So I made one. It's here:
http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=25427

(Although I'm not sure if I have tagged it correctly or put it in the right place, Mods?)

I've just started it off with some lists of stuff we have got from the Slice story.
Smile

Is he really French?

Ingy, I wasn't sure about that either - I'm half-French, and "M'aidez" is seriously dodgy French - it should be "Aidez-moi". I wish I'd been able to get to the live event to check him out

Possibly "M'aidez" could have been deliberatly wrong. it was Jacques use of this phrase that made me think something important could happen today.
Actually, I'm now beginning to wonder if the May Day might not be today, but actually be next monday, on the May Day bank holiday. It would make more sense if there is another task to do (hopefully Smile ), for it to be on a day when we're more likely to be avalible.

My French colleague says it isn't wrong but it is a command rather than a request when phrased like that.

Yes, but then it should be "M'aider", not "M'aidez"...

AND he was wearing a beret when you saw him, wasn't he? I've never known a Frenchman wear a beret. Smile

Rabbit rabbit
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"Rabbit rabbit white rabbit" is a common superstition, held particularly among children. The most common modern version states that a person should say "rabbit, rabbit, white rabbit" upon waking on the first day of each new month, and on doing so will receive good luck for the remainder of that month.

I got so excited when I found this site but I think that it's OOG:

http://www.rabbitrabbit.com/

My money was definitely on today... maybe there's a different website?

PS AndyAndyO - so the naughty girls get a Cabbage, eh? Better be good, then!

EDIT Two more versions of the White Rabbit theory are expounded at

http://www.dendritics.com/scales/alice.asp

From the website:
Quote:
There are two theories surrounding the creation of good luck for the next month, the Rabbit / Rabbit / Rabbit theory and the competing White Rabbit / White Rabbit / White Rabbit Theory.

Unfortunately for you, the reader, neither theory is confirmed, and only marginally explicated, by these references.

The story: This is the big controversy at the Lab, the theories are not only competing, but also mutually exclusive. Is it good luck to repeat (like a mantra) he phrase Rabbit, Rabbit, Rabbit as your first words on the first day of the month, or (the competing theory) is it good luck to say White Rabbit, White Rabbit, White Rabbit ...

Well I have been looking at May Day in all it's various forms, no luck yet!

Today is also Holocaust Rememberance Day, which I thought was a bit eerie considering the Anne Frank link we didn't have...
