I was just going through this thread oddly enough, me and a couple of friends of mine (yes I have friends) were discussing something very similar.

We were in the middle of welding a basketball goal to the inside of a hopper barge so we could play ball on a southbound trip to Greenville MS. That's when my buddy asked how much the motion of the barges would affect the trajectory of the basketball as we were moving downriver. After about 30 seconds, we all had headaches and gave up.

I lost that game.

Natas: Not much different from how a moth can hover while in the cabin of an airplane going 500 mph. Relative speed!
