Found a green dot and a red dot the last time I accessed the map site, hope these are useful...?

Gerri, I too saw the red dot in the northwest corner of North America. Best I can tell from reading forum posts and the wiki (it's really useful, by the way, so definitely check it out!), I don't think anyone's investigated it yet. I took a really nice screencap myself, and was going to try photoshopping it over a map of the US...unless I'm wrong and we've already discussed this red dot. I just joined too, so could someone let me know?

I saw Dante's thread on the status of the dots (thank you!!), and it seems like the red dot in North America actually might be Boise.

Which means that someone else has already beat us to finding it. Laughing

Actually, we think it is Boise and that is an omphalos that is not yet active. We would expect it to turn green when active.

Here is a rundown of what we think the dot-colors mean and what we do with them.

So if we find a red dot, we type in its location, and if we get that right, it turns green later on? And then we can get an omphalos bearing from it?

So this means that red dots are technically the "newer" destinations which we get after solving "older" ones..?

Thats about right... we know we have interaction with them, but their pending status means that we don't get a navigation from them (yet)

 Olimpic Rings

Has anyone noticed right at the end of the 1st trailer there the shadow of the 5 Olimpic Ring Logo on screen for like 2 frames??

Also there is a collection of what seem random letters that almost spell out the word "carry" What comes to my mind is the Olimpic Tourch that starts they Games... is that possibly a connection to something??

Sorry for the double post, but I want this noticed and it's the right thread for it.

Have we identified all of the locations on the postcards received in the Trailhead? (I really don't want to trawl through 72 pages of wow, this looks cool to find out.)

Omphalos
Ompalos, Eli Hunt, and the lost ring

Am I the only one who suspects the wikipedia article on "Omphalos" was written by the marketers of the film?

? No film. Olympics.

But hmmm - Elonka Dunin [well known to uF as a cryptologist, unencryptologist, puzzler, etc etc] did a bunch of revisions last October. Bit of a coincidence...added the "see also" for this pre-existing Navel of the World page (and some other related references):

Quote:
Navel of the World is a term which may refer to:

Easter Island, a location in the south Pacific Ocean
Omphalos, a Greek term for an ancient stone artifact
El Ombligo del Mundo, an earlier name of the Argentinian radio program La Venganza Será Terrible
Foundation Stone in Jerusalem
Cusco, Peru, in Creation myth
Fountain of Cho in Mercadia, a fictional environment for the game Magic: The Gathering
"Navel of the World" part of the Music of the Chrono series of video games
Tórshavn, the capital of the Faroe Islands, as referred to by author William Heinesen
Mythical sites on Japanese maps
Pacanda island on Lake Pátzcuaro in Mexico
Umbilicum mundi, a major plot device in Umberto Eco's novel Foucault's Pendulum
Baboquivari Peak Wilderness in Arizona
The Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta mountain range in Colombia, as defined by the Arhuacos tribe

Also added a picture/mention of the omphalos at Chiang Rai

On the other hand the page dates back to 2002. Elonka only did some light editing recently, so it's not like the whole thing is a fiction.

Spacebass interviewed her in 2003: http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=543

That is not very likely. The page is much older (2002 and back) and there have been no important edits in the last months.

And there are so many other ressources regarding the "omphalos" on the net.

Not at all - it's only been going a few weeks, and looks set to carry on through the summer to the Olympics, so there's plenty of time to catch up and get involved. Welcome aboard! Very Happy

Re: [RING][Trailhead] Find the Lost Ring
this is a clew

Very Happy Guess what I got today? Very Happy

(To be more accurate, guess what I got back on March 12 but didn't bother picking up until today because I figured the window had long since passed, and it was going to be just some checks I had ordered? D'oh!)
