Don't judge me, missy! Razz

BTW, looks like that Twitter post has been removed since inkblurt posted about it, although there is still one that says "making secret things for you."

P.S. I pwn three pages in this thread so far. Nyah. Laughing

iheathen, I was just going to post a link from the International Olympic Comittee too but this one with pictures from the 1920 Olympics. Here it is http://www.olympic.org/uk/games/past/index_uk.asp?OLGT=1&OLGY=1920 (scroll down to the photo gallery on the bottom of the page)
There are common locations with the pictures received. And I love the tug-of-war pic!

just throwing out random thoughts here...

Antwerp Belgium is one of the diamond capitals of the world... perhaps the lost ring is a diamond ring?

The Lo String

Count me among the masses who have received a box. It's similar to everyone else's, with the following personalizations:

* "Curiouser and curiouser... 03.03.08" on the outside of the box

* Yarn that's kind of multicolored, fading between white, yellow, blue, and purple

* The following three postcards (displayed in chronological order by the dates on the reverse)

I blogged the details: http://netninja.com/2008/03/02/the-lost-string/

Just an update on my box, pretty much the same as everyone else so I won't post them directly here but if anyone wants to see them have a look:

I did forget to take a picture of my string before trying to find the note though so its a bit of a mess Razz

Is it bad that I want to collect all the yarn together and make a big ol' 4th Doctor style scarf out of them?

If anyone wants to examine the yarn itself more closely for information, I'd suggest yarndex.com. The brand info may not turn out to be meaningful in itself, but I don't put it past all your brains to figure out what might be.

*snigger* There's a yarn database? The internet truly does have everything if you know where to look.

From that site, I think the one I got was "Cool Breeze", number 00227. Helpfully, the site says that the yarn is sold in balls?/reels?/whatevers of 95 yards. No need to go unravelling the thing and tangling myself up with the giant tape measure now Very Happy

If we are required to knit anything, I am well and truly scuppered!

As an aside, I went to the Olympic Museum in Lausanne once. Guess I should have paid more attention, as I don't remember the place at all Sad

latest site error text

Latest error message on findthelostring.com:

"SRVE0255E: A WebGroup/Virtual Host to handle / has not been defined.

SRVE0255E: A WebGroup/Virtual Host to handle www.findthelostring.com:80 has not been defined.

IBM WebSphere Application Server"

I'm no WebSphere developer, but it sounds like garden-variety error stuff to me... the mystery here seems more to be what on earth is so complicated? If it was going to be just a brochure-ware "cryptic info" site, anybody could've thrown that up in a few hours. There's a web app they're trying to run here, so I wonder what it'll be?

Dude, that's not the half of it. People who knit and crochet are about as organized online as we are, if not more so. Case in point, ravelry.com

If knitting or crochet is required, I volunteer. I've done sweaters, caps and blankets for years (just not so recently).

OK, that's a real IBM WebSphere system error... That's the error I expect if things are, well, bad. Not what was there before.

The error occurs when you have not configured a site correctly for deployment. Most commonly occurs on a site's first launch and configuration options aren't completed, but the server is public. That, in an of itself, is an IT no-no to begin with, but I'm willing to cut them some slack on that.

If it launches tomorrow (3/3/08, no?), it's no surprised they're doing major server updates today.

in addition to the findthelostring.com site,
http://www.thelostring.com/ gives a similar "access denied" message

I'm also thinking "thelo string" as that would fit in with "i like...string"

I don't know, but that site www.ilikestring.com strikes me as odd, in the sense that it could be from an IG character. Seeing those pictures in that site gave me the sensation that later on in the game all those who received the packages are suppose to knitt something.

I feel very certain that vpisteve is just messin' with us. He's jealous because he didn't get a box and is our first official gamejack attempt! Shifty Eyes
