I feel terrible. I used to speak quite good German when I was slightly less then half the age I am now. But at this point I look at Markus' comments and it was all gibberish. If it's wrong to want to pick a language back up because of an ARG, I don't think I want to be right.

So anyway, the poor guy has resorted to communicating with me in English. (I wonder if the person writing him actually speaks German, I'd be mortified if this is the case.)

Quote:
HitsHerMark,

Maybe you write what put in message in english for me?

Is hard with automatic translator, it not make sense.

My english not good, but I try to understand what you put.

Markus

My answer was basically that his English was better then my German, I suggested a message that he could send to Ariadne. I also asked him if Markus was his actual name, and about his food and shelter situation...

Not that I currently have the funds to do anything about it... But I figure Kai probably does. Laughing

EDIT to avoid double post:

Okay, this is kind of interesting. I just got a reply from Markus again... He mentions that Markus was given to him by the man who found him, named after the man's dog who recently died. He also mentions that he made a friend and that he has a place to stay.

Now the message above, he's using an automatic translator to communicate in English.

In this message, he's gone back to German, but he mentions (in German) that he is trying to learn English. And then, in English, says he thinks he's getting better at it... But look.

Quote:

Ich tue auch mein bestes, Englisch zu lernen, i think i getting better at it Smile

When he switches to English? English that he is typing himself? No caps. Just like Ariadne.

WHERE'S MY TINFOIL HAT?

oh, and btw, do you recognize any of the locations or background information in the diego pictures?

Well, sadly I don't. I don't live in Buenos Aires, so it's not easy for me to recognize photos from its surrondings, specially when they are so... unclear.

It doesn't matter though, I sent Diego an e-mail some minutes ago, I asked him if he knows the exact location of the maze, if he has seen a doctor, who is helping him to survive this days, if he has recurrent dreams, etc. Some things were already asked by people here, but Bah! Asking is not going to hurt anybody!

If you want a copy of the message, here you have it:

Saludos Diego,

¿Cómo te mantienes si no recuerdas nada?
4) ¿Has expermientado algún sueño recurrente?
5) ¿Has ido al médico?

Let's see what he has to say about that.

Anyway, it's a bit late right now so I'm leaving.
Happy hunting Wink

Chinese Diary Translation

In response to an earlier question I did not receive a box nor did anyone I know. Just stumbled on this posting and thought it looked interesting.

blaqueice wrote:
Mei just sent me a diary entry. She also said in her email that she woke up at 狮子林, China. I googled 狮子林 and the first link gave me:THE LION FOREST GARDEN
I figured this was probably the place she woke up in because of this from the front page
Quote:
Noted for its labyrinthine mountains with winding pathways and caverns, old pines and cypress trees, awesome peaks and jogged rocks of grotesque shapes resembling dancing lions with striking and unusual poses, it possesses with pride the true delights of mountain and forest scenery in limited space with a flavor of Zen Buddhism

anyways, here is the her diary entry.(translation in red)

Quote:
I write diary and I remember this:
at beginning:

I gradually awoke from the coma, a while after the end chill from the feet, body cold. Wenglong speech I have heard in the voices of some distant, some sounds I like in the vicinity. I think the first full, and the dark side ㄧ film, do not see anything. I would like to open my eyes and found my eyes kept up. I covered my eyes, things had to, but still can not meet the eye. I remember when I wake up is facing, I rely on the forehead right arm. I thought I was 80-year-old Miss, moving not dynamic. I had to stay in situ, let me clear about their own, until I can open my eyes. I find myself in a good dark good dark room.

I look left and right to see, to see the results, there are about seven or eight will be moving shadow on my side Dangling, and the little finger. I started a bit scared, the fire was on the up. "啥can see ah?" I would like to heart, "does not help, I can only Dengzhe…" I have to go back to destroy him! Sing, Sheiboshei ah… results they really were I to destroy gone, hee hee! I cocoa Lingling the ㄧ individuals sit on the ground ::*_*:: do not know what is ㄧ matter in the end, and consequently can not remember the past. Grey is with the ground, like a stone paved with cobblestones. Also hard cold and ice…

I get up and carrying那条tied my eyes "nothing", and slowly follow the finger at me before those little people walk behind. Vietnam sneaked away more bright line. I found that I was outside in a maze-like cave, looks like a large chunks of rock pile up, and the surface of these stones are cold, the rough. Exports to the winding road, and a very narrow start, and then it slowly widened surface. Exports to me, I found that wearing a pair of black trousers and a black long-sleeved jacket, and also behind the kind of hat. I also engage in it is not clear why my whole body from top to bottom are black paint Ma Ukraine. But I used to tie a scarf However eyes full of color, very pretty Oh…

I am sorry. I like write, but not good for english so i write my own! Smile

more?

Mei

If someone who knows chinese can provide a better translation, that would be awesome. I replied saying "yes, more please"

The following is my translation. I am not a professional so there are most likely some errors.

Quote:
I slowly wake from a deep sleep. I feel a chill from my head to my feet: I feel cold. In my dreams I hear voices: some are far and some seem very near. My head feels very heavy and all around me is darkness. I can't see a thing. I think to open my eyes but realize that they are covered. I take off the thing covering my eyes but they are very uncomfortable. I remember that when I awoke I was facedown with my forehead resting on my right arm [forearm?]. I feel like I am an eighty year old woman. I can't move at all. I just stay in my original position and wait for myself to wake up a little more until I can open my eyes. I find that I am in a really dark place.

I look to the left and right and see seven or eight [possibly means "several"] shadows swaying over me and pointing at me. At first I am a little afraid but then I become angry. "What the hell are you looking at?" I think to myself, "And you don't even help, just stare at me." I stare right back at them. Hmm, Who is afraid of whom…In the end they leave my presence. Hehe! I am so pathetic: sitting alone on the ground ::*_*:: In the end I don't know what happened. I can't remember anything. The ground is grey and covered with cobblestones [literally "covered with goose egg shaped stones"]: cold and hard as ice.

I climb to my feet and take the "thing" off that was tied over my eyes. I slowly follow the people who had been pointing at me as they leave. As I progress the light gets brighter and brighter. I suddenly realize that I have been in a maze-like cave. I see many large boulders all piled up. The faces of these boulders are very broad and cold. The way out is twisty and at the beginning very narrow. A little later it begins to broaden. When I reach the exit I realize that I am wearing black pants and a long sleeved black hoody [literally "black long sleeved jacket, that kind with a hood on the back."] I can't really figure out why I am clothed entirely in black [used an idiom I am not really that familiar with to mean black. Literally it might say something like "the pitch black of some kid of bird"]. But the scarf that was covering my eyes was brightly covered and very beautiful.

Finally, I don't know what the Chinese woman says in the video because it is not accessible here.

Thanks Wang Yangming, looks like an excellent translation! (far better than our computer-translated versions, at least!)

I've also sent off an email to Ariadne, We'll have to see what she says back!

more of Mei's diary. I won't bother with the online translation since Wang Yangming did such a good job with the last one.

Quote:
I am sorry I am late. busy work here!

more diary here~~

busy work here? I'll ask her where she is working.

Hey --

I left a comment on Ariadne's blog, asking if the doctors might know what sport she played... saying something like, I'm no sports expert, but I'd imagine that the body of an Olympic-level runner might look different from the body of an Olympic-level basketball player, etc., and maybe that will give us a clue.

Now I realize that maybe I should have used e-mail. Oh, well.

By the way, I was thinking: we might want to check off regions we've "been" to, and see what major population centers we have left. Then, we can check what social-networking sites are popular there, to try to anticipate where we'll find our next clue.

Err... we've covered North America, sub-Saharan Africa, the Far East, South America, and Western Europe. That leaves Eastern Europe and the Middle East. Hmmm... I know Orkut is popular in India and Pakistan... and Brazil, right? Hmm. ...And LiveJournal is popular in Russia and thereabouts.

That's all just speculation, though. Fun times!

(Oh! And Southeast Asia... and northern Africa... and Oceania...)

It's 4:30am so you'll have to excuse me if...

It's late and I just read 15 pages of this topic to try and catch up on what I missed in less than 24 hours (a section of its own would be nice if this continues at its current pace).

I emailed our dear ariadne and suggested that she try her luck and shooting a rifle at a distant target to check on her accuracy. My purpose? The Pentathlon has many sports that the athletes need to compete in. There is running, swimming, riding horses, shooting, and fencing.

Because I am going to personally assume that she can run and swim, given her physical fitness, I thought a good test for her would be to try and shoot a rifle at a target if we are to narrow down what sport(s) she is good at since shooting really isn't something that the average person can do great at right off the bat - unlike riding a horse and fencing (I am no fencing expert so I wouldn't be able to tell good from bad. If she is not a good fencer, neither would she. Shooting can be judged by both parties pretty well. Either you hit the target or you don't).

I'll let you know how it turns out as soon as I get a response.

I can personally attest to the fact that some people live in Australia. Surprising, but true.

Thanx, MrToasty! I actually will contact Noriko-san now, so if everybody has any questions to Noriko, just post them here.

P.S. To moderators: perhaps it's time to make new thread group (like Cloverfield), because this game seems to have big dimensions. Just as advise: we need perhaps at least a different thread for every IG person, since contacting them can give us very different clues, and mixing it up in one thread would make it like Daedalus made it for King Minos Wink

Prove it! Only kidding, I've heard tell that there ARE people in Australia and an even wilder assertion about New Zealand...
My partner who lurks so guardedly he won't even visit any of the sites or read any posts wishes to put forward the spec that the sixth ring represents a new or 'lost' continent. Ariadne's mixed up accent could place her as displaced from this sixth place.
Alternatively, if Ariadne is supposed to be an Ozzie, then is there perhaps an African somewhere in Oceania?

I stumbled upon this site while looking for a connection between the ancient mythological aspect and the amnesia.

Quote:
Theseus is thus, like Jason, one of the great love rats of Greek mythology. However, he was also the greatest hero of Athenian culture, and naturally the Athenians were keen to let him off the hook. So a variant of the story soon appeared: the god Dionysus or Bacchus was already in love with Ariadne and used his divine powers to impose amnesia on Theseus. He literally forgot Ariadne; it wasn't his fault.

I don't know what we can learn from it, but Dionysus is the god for all things connected to celebration and irrational behavior, (wine and inspired madness, says wikipedia).

EDIT: Inspired madness -> Olympics?
