I know... I'm wondering if we need to keep an eye on him, or find out more about the "friends" she says he enlisted to help him build her website?

If he "sold his company" he's probably quite financially resourceful... who knows what we're dealing with here.

Actually I was thinking about that today, and I wanted to ask the more experience in ARGers in here, if the rabbithole can be OOG or has to be IG. Because in the light of what we know now (which is not a lot, considering this is going to be a huge ARG and it started not even a week ago), we can't put that in-story.

It's really PM's choice.
Technically, the website was discovered from the text hidden in the clews; So, nothing further may be needed from the packages and they're just really cool ARG swag.
OR...
Any of several dozens of pieces of disparate information could be hidden within the items mailed out to provide further direction, once we've discovered how to glean said information.

Something I've tried to get the PMs I've worked on with stuff to allow was a puzzle which is available from the very beginning of the campaign and whose solve takes the players to the "credits" page for the game. So far, nobody's opted to try it, even after playtesting the puzzles and agreeing that the chances for an early solve were very slight.

Just something I think would be cool and help people to not feel bummed about all the effort they put into the earlier part of a game if all it entailed was "Here's the site. Knock yourself out.".

Also, having multi-dimensional puzzles is awesome. Even something simple like, 'Lining up the numbers on the blocks gives you "THISISACLUE.COM". But lining up the colors gives you "UNZABOOOMAPWFOO".' can be a treat.

We play by the PM's rules. Whether the boxes sent make any "sense" within the game will need to be determined as we go.

I chatted with Ariadne on GTalk as well.

Highlights:
- She doesn't know any other languages
- She thinks that her dream means she has to find five more like her, but as we have only found four, there must be a fifth out there somewhere...
- Apparently the phrase Kai said in his video was in Xhosa (though his Xhosa is bad)...could we get a confirmation of that? (hmm...)

Until we get an email address or some sort of contact with Kai, we'll have to assume the boxes are OOG - mainly because the characters we *are* in contact with are disregarding them Smile

... although the idea that Kai is behind the boxes, and possibly the appearance of our (so far) five new friends is intriguing Very Happy

OK, I received an email from Noriko, below is the best translation I can come up with.

Quote:

Thank you, Chaki!

I speak some English, but not good.

There was another athlete with an average body that had the same tattoo, and woke up on the same day in the(?) labyrinth named Adriane. There was another girl like me. findthelostring.com Coincidence? Is this a coincidence? I don't think so. There is also another man in South Africa who is in the same situation, and while it's safe, Koto (?) is growing and more afraid**...For me, it carries out in the country of Naka of a map, and does not borrow.***

**I have no idea who Koto is, but it was written in katakana so I'm assuming its a name.
***I have no idea what this sentence is supposed to mean.

So...yea. I'll write back and ask her what Koto is, maybe its the person who found her?

Also, if anybody needs Spanish translation of anything, let me know. Spanish IV can't be a total waste...right? Rolling Eyes

are we to assume the delivery of the package is OOG, or IG?
I'm assuming it's IG...which means the following:

iheathen, it's a tough line to draw between OOG and IG in an ARG.

Basically it depends on the game. And so in Perplex City, it was explicit: the physical puzzle cards were part of a campaign designed by the game world to effect an action in our world. And in Why So Serious, a bunch of people were given cellphones for game use. But here, we have direct communication between celina63 and a key character on the subject. "i don't think it has anything to do with me" Ariadne said, and we can understand that as diktat. "i just ignored it" she continued, which we can take as a suggestion.

After that statement has been given, I think that we think of the pre-game package as an announcement meant to pique interest. In fact, we haven't discovered any difficult puzzle in its contents only story hints. Sure, there is a list of dates that conforms to what might be the schedule of this game, but that could easily change. Questions about the production of the package are on the level of questions about cinematography or animal treatment while watching Men in Black: distraction. It is no secret to some or most of the recipients exactly why/how/from-whom the package was sent, and after this game (or mid-way through even), you'll probably be on the same list the recipients are.

I may as well understand the package I received as a succession of images, visited to me by dream, impelling me to find reason for them in waking experiences.

Kai is an interesting character, if only because we haven't seen much of him. But he is an altruist, and Ariadne trusts him.

I would guess Koto is Noriko's equivalent of Ariadne's Kai.

She also says "There is also another man in South Africa who is in the same situation"...is that just a mixup and she means Ariadne (who she calls Adriane in the email), or Kai, or someone else?

Keep in mind that we just introduced Noriko, Ariadne, and everyone else, so they just barely have heard of each other, so mixups are possible...

I think she meant South America.

Some of the Lost Ones have expressed an interest in communicating primarily in their native language. Some have only rudimentary ability with English. (Not to point fingers, but that email from Noriko contains a fantastic number of contradictions to what we think we know. Get the comfy chair!)

On the wiki, I've set up a page for us to list language resources we have in the playerbase. Yeah, yeah, I know, babelfish is awesome and google-translator is da bomb yo, but I suspect that we may lose some meaning if we rely on machine translation. If all of the Lost Ones start blogging on the findthelostring site, part of our puzzle is mediating that Tower of Babel.

If you're fluent in a language that we've seen so far, and willing to be a contact for translation, can you sign up on the Language Resources page?

I added riquardo (I hope you don't mind) as an example, as he's already acted as a leader on translations.

If we really need it at some point I know someone from South Africa who knows Afrikaans and a bit of some other languages...but i'm not going to add that to the language resources as A. It's not me, its a friend. And B. Haven't seen any big need for South African languages (yet).

I actually think that Ariadne is wrong, and what he spoke was "Hello" in Afrikaans:

"Goeie dag" (HWEE-uh dag - with the "g" like the "ch" in the Scottish "loch")

The pictures I`ve got per fedex I`d send to Noriko.

But:

何かに見覚えがないかと思って、色んな所に行ってみるんですが、何を見ても見覚えはありません。。。T_T

I haven`t seen these pictures before, But they are old and great, aren`t they? I thought, perhaps I`ll recognize something and I was in various places, but I haven`t recognized anything there...

I'll add myself for Spanish translation @ the wiki. I would for Japanese...but I dunno how good it is, hehe Very Happy I'll keep trying, though!

I just got back an email from Noriko, and she denies writing "Koto"...but, in the context, it has to be a name; I'm sure of it. That part is below...in case anybody wants to take a look at it. I'll tackle the new message tomorrow...I need to do homework now TT___TT
