Eli

I sent a message to Eli:

Quote:
Eli,

I found a picture of an artifact that may also relate to the game you describe

http://www.perseus.tufts.edu/cgi-bin/image?lookup=1990.03.0348

A game of ephisdremos

Response from Eli

Quote:
Dear Lukefj,

That is indeed a curious find! While traditionally, that artifact is interpreted as a woman being "blinded by love", perhaps the keepers of the lost sport were hiding more clues in plain sight for us to find. I applaud you.

Sincerely yours,

Eli Hunt

I'm not so sure that the amnesiacs are the Gamekeepers, since the gamekeeps trained the athletes, not WERE them. I would think since each amnesiac has a friend like Kai, that those friends are actually the Gamekeepers and they are in charge of training our memory-challenged friends. Just my 2 cents.

My thoughts are that a coach/trainer needs to know something about the sport/event they're teaching. So they could be gamekeepers, and they may need to teach others what they know. Then those others would compete.

Imagine if WE learn new skills from them, and have to compete in a secret Olympics of lost events?

embodiment of qualities

We may well find that each of our Six Lost Athletes represent or envision one of these qualities.

In Eli's video he said that "thumos" or courage was one of the characteristics that defines an olympic athlete

I would guess that Markus represents the spirit of Thumos

The second podcast details the agonothetai (of which there were 6), ancient gamekeepers of the Olympics with religious ties. Eli found stories regarding the Paliki chamber where information relating to the agonothetai and the ancient games was hidden.

One of the bits of information related to the 6 ttributes of the athlete, which are unlike what we would expect (speed, strength, etc). They were

I think the Thumos 696 is a reference to the fainting of Sarpedon in the Iliad.

Dear Red Hatty,

I admire your concern. However, for your own safety and the safety of others, I urge you to forget about the so-called lost ring.

I will have no further conversations with you about it.

Sincerely yours,

Anyway. On the subject of Thumos 696 I discovered this.

It's called "Supplements to the Study of Mnemosyne: A Study of Thumos in Early Greek Epic".

According to the snippet of this book in verse 696 of the Illiad it talks about a person experiencing a "momentary death" or a lapse of consciousness and them coming to again.

I'm not sure this is what we're looking for. But it seems worth pursuing to me.

We may have to provide decisive evidence (I've played too much Phoenix Wright) convincing him that the ring is important to his own research.

Eli doth protest to much. It sounds like he knows about the lost ring and what it is. He's warning us to forget it. Confused

That's TOTALLY what happened to Markus. I think that's an important passage.

*sigh* following so many media news/blog articles about this, and since *sponsor* was discovered, there's no end to the cynicism against this as pure sponsor marketing, and sometimes criticisim of ARGs themselves...
sheesh. *sponsor* hasn't even shown up at all yet except in the fairly-hidden TOS. There hasn't been any direct advertising except maybe the obvious Olympics. grah!

just good, pure mystery and entertainium so far!

Exactly, I'm chatting with him right now.

He has a new YouTube vid up.

Also, he's not sure he wants people to spread around willy nilly where he is.

EDIT:
Here is a transcript of my conversation with Markus. It's short because he appears to have lost his connection. DUN DUN DUN! Translation is provided below.

Laugh at my crappy German and hilarious knee-jerk reaction to the word "agnst".
