Has anyone googled/searched for a society in Cardiff known for it's "benevolency"?

There are many "Benevolent Societies" all over the world. It's sort of like a trade association or fraternity. My guess is that we're looking for one that deals with antiquity or exploration.

As I mentioned here, he called the members his "colleagues". Which means he either has worked with them, or that they're in similar fields.

I got a few hits, but this one caught my attention, mainly because of #7, to wit (emphases mine):

7. The Committee to meet twice annually, in March and October in Cardiff. Minutes of meeting to be circulated to all members of the Committee.

Some days ago, when Eli said he was preparing a lecture for the weekend, I thought maybe a cool live event. Then I emailed him showing interest in his research (no mention of tattoos or rings whatsoever) and asking where is lecture was and saying I'd like to attend. He didn't answer, but I saw earlier that someone asked him that and he said it was a private lecture, invitation only. With all this I thought I lost hope on the live event. But now seeing it emerge again I'm thinking: are we supposed to track Ariadne in Cardiff? And mainly Eli? Like, for real?

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Their terms of service are wrong for that to be an IG page.

I don't think we're necessarily searching for a society that is in game so much as doing real world research to narrow down where Eli could possibly be going.

Yeah, hmrpita, I was just looking at that but it didn't seem right. But they have nothing to do with the Olympics.

I'm glad we were on the same page there for a second though.
*Continues searching*
I've been following HHM's suggestion and looking for olympic research, history, and exploration societies and associations in that area. There are tons to go through.

The school of Cardiff in particular has both an Ancient History Society and a Greek Society, both of which would seem appropriate for a lecture of this sort.

I'm guessing that if it's relevant, it's in game - the PMs probably want to avoid libel suits, after all.

Is anyone (else) exploring through the linklist at Eli Hunt's website?

I've poked around a bit, they all look like legit OOG sites mainly for reference. And there's lots of info in them. Maybe we need to prove our knowledge to Eli before he will talk to us or something, dunno. At this point I'm treating Eli as a social engineering problem - what can we say to him that will get us the info we want?

Lecture of what sort?
He could be part of the "Help the aliens take over benevolent and protective society" or the "secure and sacrifice virgins for the glory of Poseidon" society.

So, when does the hacking start? I played around with the true.gif and false.gif pics for a while. Until I figured out their podcast-specific purpose.

That makes sense to me. We have to demonstrate that we are paranoid crazies. If we are fellow "colleagues", then he'll want to talk to us. We could appeal to his ego at that point, with intense interest in his work.

I sent him essentially this kind of email, and he still hasn't gotten back to me...

I haven't heard from him since yesterday, when he blew me off with the standard "Quit asking me about the rings!" (paraphrased) I'd only mentioned the lost ring as a means of introducing myself and how I'd found him. I'd actually just offered to help him.

Since then, I've sent two emails. The first disavowing that I'm asking HIM for help with looking for any lost ring. The second was a discussion of Heinrich Schliemann and his supposed find of Priam's treasure and then his greatest discovery in Greece. First, a lot of people disliked Schliemann's methods at the site of Troy. He essentially bulldozed many many layers to get to burial chambers where he found gold, and then he smuggled the treasures out. There are also questions about whether some of what he found was seeded from other sites or even possibly forged.

As for his work in Greece, Schliemann found a burial mask that he thought was Agamemnon's. The odd thing about it is that it appears to have open eyes with a line across them. I pointed out to Eli that maybe it was some kind of blindfold and not a burial mask at all. Of course, I didn't mention that the mask had been estimated to be from several hundred years prior to the first Olympics.

Anyway. I hope someone else has better luck than I did.
