For many of us, that shouldn't be too difficult to do. Wink

Yes, I know it is a typo. Smile

That makes sense to me. We have to demonstrate that we are paranoid crazies. If we are fellow "colleagues", then he'll want to talk to us. We could appeal to his ego at that point, with intense interest in his work.

I sent him essentially this kind of email, and he still hasn't gotten back to me...

If follow RangerD's idea of social engineering, then I don't know if a simple e-mail will work. We might need to provide him with more solid evidence. A mocked-up paper on the subject, asking him for peer feedback before submitting it to publication. Or a request for an interview, from a graduate student studying the ancient Olympics.

That might be excessive this early, though.

:-p

I think there is ample evidence available to the state of our (in)sanity.

I was thinking of emailing Mr. Hunt under the ruse of a high school student doing a project for an World or Ancient Civ. class.

It's just an angle. You all seem to be going at it from the standpoint of being a peer, or at least adult. Maybe a kid will set off his paranoia less.

I'm inclined to believe that the more angles we go from the higher our chances of finding one that works.

Student? Yes. Peer? Yes. Professional rival with a site debunking him? Yes, especially if you think you can present yourself as a believable expert. Guy with a pottery shard he'd be interested in? Oh hell yes.

The guy's clearly a social engineering puzzle we're meant to solve, and I know better way than to try all plausible methods.

Mr. Hunt,

I'm currently majoring in Illustration at Boise State University, ID, in the United States. I'm currently taking a senior level seminar linking iconographie in art with classical myth, and your theories relating to a lost Olympic sport are very interesting to me. I'd like very much to hear you speak, and have heard rumors that you'll be appearing in Cardiff this weekend. If this true, are there any other details you'd be willing to supply me with? I understand you're a busy man, so thank you very much for your time.

...and got a VERY helpful response Smile

Dear Mr. Calentino,

I am pleased that an artist such as yourself has taken an interest in my research. Recreating ancient artifacts is a true passion of mine, as you may have noticed from my podcast series. Although I must confess that I am not much of an illustrator myself. And so I am always interested in meeting potential future collaborators. Perhaps you will keep my research in mind if you are looking for an interesting project to further your university studies.

As for the lecture, it has been especially commissioned by a private client. And as a matter of respect, I keep the names of my clients confidential. Indeed, I'm quite sure this group would not want to advertise their interest in this particular lecture topic. It's quite unorthodox. Of course, many of lectures are outside the mainstream of research, as you may have surmised. However, I anticipate a lively discussion, as I believe my research is a perfect fit for the group. Let's just say they are some odd fellows in the bunch.

Yours sincerely,

Eli Hunt

Eli Hunt: discrepancy

I just listened again to Eli Hunts' first podcast and looked at the quiz. In the podcast the archaeologist who discovers the tablets is Mortiz Wach, but in the quiz Hunt asks about Gunnar Haas?
Am I missing something?
Is this significant or just a PM slip up?

Excellent! Still not all of the details, but clearly he's opening up.

Nice.

Oddfellows Friendly Society, 19 Newport Rd, Cardiff, CF24 0AA, United Kingdom

Maybe that is where Ariadne should go. Very Happy

Ariock got to that way before I did.
That's awesome. :]

Now to get Markus and Ariadne to meet up?
Or at least get them in the same place.

Ariadne,

been following your plight for a few days and got in touch with Mr. Eli Hunt. We have good reason to believe that he'll be lecturing to the Cardiff Oddfellows Friendly Society. He insists that it's a private function, so I doubt you'll be able to get in. I've attached our correspondence as a reference. You can find the Society at 19 Newport Rd, Cardiff. Their postcode is CF24 0AA. Best wishes.

Got a response 10 minutes later:

Sweet! You should suggest that she bring some sort of recording device and tape Hunt's lecture, if she can get in at all.
