Exactly! Also, has anybody else noticed on the IBIHD website, they hail him as a... guess what? White Knight. Tell me that isn't a coincidence.

so you guys think that this was what we were actually supposed to hear.

even though they were calling it a "live press conference"?

i doubt that dent was just strolling down the street and saw this comotion happened and just jumped in to save the day.

(i'm not trying to be arguementative, just playing devil's advocate)

i just seemed all too perfect to be a coincidence

I wasn't implying he was just strolling down the street, he was in the area for his press conference. Obviously a situation like this would end a press conference, so he went and got himself involved in a police stand-off.

It's a bit of a "glory-hound" move, but it seems it was effective. Smile

Nothing in an ARG is coincidence. We're seeing exactly what we need to see.

I just thought it was a bit fishy because the actual press conference never even actually started. ya know

Smile

Don't worry about it, it's a bit much to catch up on. I wasn't online when everything happened, and sorting out has been ... interesting. Smile

This seems, to me, to be the key event that causes Two-face, at least the attack on Dent.

Right now Dent must seem somewhat invincible, he walked into the middle of a stand-off between a police force that doesn't care much for him and an armed man that openly doesn't like him, then somehow came out unscathed. That kind of ego boost, and the many to follow, combined with the physical and emotional scarring that occurs when he's attacked, sometime later; it really is no wonder that Two-face emerges from what's left of Dent.

I understand the is all fictional, but there are plenty of real people who never get passed traumatic events, especially if there is physical scarring. HD/TF is just an exaggerated example of this.

okay so the ibeliveinharveydent site actually says that the live feed was cancelled due to the hostage situation, that harvey pretty much cancelled it to go and fix the situation. there's our answer. it says on 4/13:
"Today's press conference was unexpectedly cancelled due to a hostage crisis located at a nearby deli. In a selfless move, Mr. Dent entered the premises, exchanged himself for a woman who was being held at gunpoint, and negotiated the successful release of the remaining patrons in the restaurant. Watch this site for updates. We will release more details when they become available. "

and today there is a post 4/15:
"A MESSAGE FROM HARVEY DENT

Friends, my entire campaign I've talked about how this campaign is a struggle for this city's soul. On the one hand, there are those people who prey on the innocent citizens of Gotham. On the other hand, there is our movement to take back Gotham from crime and corruption.

At Rossi's Deli, we saw that struggle play out. Play out inside the head of the hostage taker, Sgt. Frank Notaro. Some are calling him a "crazed smear cop" but he encapsulates the choice facing us. Do we continue to allow our worst nature to lead us? Or do we take a chance on hope?

That's the choice I laid out to Frank Notaro. And he responded. He released an innocent, terrified girl. He turned himself in. And he is now talking to the police about mob involvement in the smear campaign against me.

That's the real lesson of the incident. We must, all of us, have the courage to hope. If we have the power to change ourselves, if we have the power to change one person, then we have the power to change Gotham."

could it have been a publicity stunt?

did we hear what Dent said in the Deli? Just wondering if he offered Notaro something or made a deal or some such.

I doubt it was a publicity stunt. Dent's character is a bit on the over-zealous side, but not enough so to make him suicidal.

I don't think we'll get exactly what was said in the Deli. Dent says he reasoned with him; talked him down. He probably offered him some kind of protection if he gave himself up.

Something tells me he simply got protection for him, I'm just not sure if i believe Harvey Dent is a good guy all around or crooked too, since we all know who he becomes.

Seriously? Knowing Harvey Dent's storyline and character from the comics you think he's crooked now? Wow, just wow. Two-Face is a constant internal battle between his new scarred half (and the second personality it brought out), and his old law-abiding self; hence the coin flipping. Two-Face has his own system of perverted justice that stems from his past as an attorney and the attack that scarred him. If Harvey Dent was crooked to begin with wouldn't that make Two-Face a bit moot.

I'll be honest, my knowledge of Two Face isn't as good as it is of say, Joker, hence the uncertainty.

I'm like... a Two-Face expert, and yes, Harvey was never corrupt in the least before he was scarred. He was the most squeaky clean person in all of Gotham, even more than Batman or Gordon (read Long Halloween). Some interpretations do have him where he did have a split personality before scarring (see Batman: The Animated Series) but it came out to dominate during scarring. So far there is no evidence that he's got a violent alternate personality in this interpretation of the character.
