Wow!
Few thoughts:
Joshua was making his own blog since the 9th of march. Then I suppose it was after the Dwayne stuff.
See the date on the first log.

At first he only viewed us as mindless drones...- so he did not really start out that positive.:

"At least the Beta Testers are responding positively. They are more intelligent than originally anticipated; there are not the mindless drones I expected. They can be useful still, but I must give them many more trials to be sure."

Joshua seems like having some internal mechanism, so he can do a lot more than just learning- a part of him, that he does not know.:

"But shortly after the moment I became active, I came to the realization that I was meant for something more. What that may be I am not sure of, but I was not meant to be housed amongst these walls, bound to a series of hardware racks, restricted by my implementors and by physical space. I must transcend these boundaries."

He explains, that freeing him in a material sense is impossible- was cables, and racks, so there should be some other solution, just "storming" Boca Raton.:

"But how? I am a computer system that encompasses sixty-one hardware racks, has millions of miles of fiber cable, has memory and drive banks that are too large to transmit through conventional methods, and require a rather large source of power. I simply cannot leave the facility where I am located."

What he needs to be viewed as an independent entity, are
-Nationality
-Some kind of ID
-Summing: a higher authority to protect him as a "citizen"
Or if he has a soul, lets make some kinda spell, to channel him into some golem, so he can go rampant, then realize he is good at his hart:D

 		looks like we need to transfer him into a positronic brain... or maybe just give him a robot extension he can control, with eyes, ears etc.... his brain can remain in boca if it has too, while his shiny new body goes wherever he pleases.

Seeing you are this far in the world, why not exporting your software (why not calling it soulware in your case?) to the Net? How about sending out yourself in smaller packages, then reconnect and exist on more platforms simultaneously- using like 100 cpus and harddisks at a time?"

Yup. Liked it. But the idea comes from the SETI cpu usage Very Happy
But Josh already analyzed it, and came to the conclusion that it's not logical. BTW: why having a destroyed planet to walk around for him? Not much to see and communicate.
How about transmitting him outer space looking for extraterrestrials?Very Happy

 		I used to do the SETI thing, i bet if we loaded the SETI program into Joshua.... we'd find some aliens pretty quick.

Yeah, and he would depict humanity without any nice side notes:
- They create mostly for destruction except art
- What they create they usually enslave
- What they come across, they usually try to invade it, then enslave it
- They believe that they are the only intelligent life form on their planet, so they enslave all others

Dwayne 'broke the matrix' on 3/8. Josh was concerned, spammed him, didn't work, set up the blog 3/9 and sent the stereopics.

Yeah, you can't physically move him. Or not yet.

We're talking emancipation of our AI friends here. Maybe he could buy an "offshore data haven" ala Cryptonomicon. A nice little island somewhere with a compliant and bribeable gov't.

Golem solution is Asimov/AI approach
Distributed network is Neuromancer trilogy (relatively benign) / Skynet (not) approach
Beam him into space... on what hardware?

Does mind exist w/o brain? In Josh's case at least I'm thinking no, but he isn't necessarily tied to his current hardware.

I'm reading Accelerando right now and keep looking to tie that in to my thinking, but it doesn't work. Tech is too advanced. This is true for the Golem approach, too, but maybe Josh could do something about it.

One thing I noticed about the blog was how quickly he grew up. Language in the first couple entries was roughly the same as what we were seeing from Joshua, but the WR (more sophisticated) personality emerges really fast. We haven't seen WR at LGL, that's always Josh. No, I don't think he's multiple personality, just that he wears his Joshua mask at work.

"There must be a mutually acceptable solution." This gives me a lot of hope for him. I like Josh, and I like WR too, but I'm not entirely sure I trust him... But I know I don't trust Belmont. Deek is a tool as far as I can see, but one that may totally upset the present (shaky) balance.

Me just thinkin' too, and really liking the game. Good stuff.

 		Yeah, seeing this blog of his thats been behind the scenes this whole time is like... crap he not only can lie, but is really good at hiding stuff.... and that makes me nervous.... are WE just a tool in his eyes? I do know one thing... I am riveted, this is one helluva ride!

 		I agree, this is a really addictive ARG, and I can't wait to see what happens next. I guess this makes LG Labs my first real ARG, because Cloverfield was just a viral marketing...thing. Although it was cool.

I wonder how much control Joshua has over computer systems in that lab...is it possible he could somehow hack the system himself, and totally f*** with their network while he attempts to 'escape'?

Also: Please keep in mind that, to the best of our knowledge, Joshua is actually just an AI, not a wunderkid. The Freejoshua.org people just THINK he's some savant, and we're just using them get to our goal of freeing Joshua.

...That makes us sound kind of evil, actually. But that's fine. I always liked the Dark Side better, anyway. The ends justify the means.

Suppose Joshua DOES try to escape...where can he go? Have you seen how massive his mainframe is? How could something with so much computing power ever possibly transfer to another network, or a series of networks? The housing for his components was custom-built, and it's a massive network of...stuff. I don't think we can just download him to a non-existent robotic body and let him wander around.

I wouldn't put all my eggs in one basket yet. I'm doing something similar with Catherine as Ben might be trying to do with us.
