I find this both hilarious and disturbing.

Edit : this may be lame, but I was trying to gauge Joshua's computing power based on how quickly he's calculating Pi. By my count, that would be that he's doing about 37,500 FLOPS. I think my cell phone could do better. If he's as big and bad as they say, this should be in the giga to tera FLOP range. Either he's not really trying or something isn't right here.

How are babies born?

Answer: Childbirth is the culmination of a human pregnancy or gestation period with the delivery of one or more newborn infants from a woman's uterus.

The process of human childbirth is categorized in 3 stages of labor.

- The first stage accomplishes the shortening and then the dilation of the cervix. It is deemed to have started when the cervix is 3cm dilated, and ends with full dilation. Contractions begin in the first stage of labor although they may be irregular and sporadic at first.

- The second stage, often called the pushing stage, starts when the cervix is fully dilated and ends with the expulsion of the fetus.

- In the third stage, the placenta detaches from the uterine wall and is expelled through the birth canal.

That's hot.

Sent an email to Ivan inquiring about who's in charge of what there:
Quote:
Hey I noticed that you were in charge of an area equivalent to 5 football fields which is exactly 288,000 square feet. The complex is over 700,000 square feet. What do they use all the extra space for, and who is in charge of that?

Let's see what he says.

To be honest, it's more than five football fields. Isn't ONE football field enough?

When you count the CPU racks, the battery arrays, the optical storage, the two house-sized diesel generators, and enough Cat5 and fiber optic cable to fill the Grand Canyon... well, it's a big place!

Joshua takes up most of it, but we do some hosting for other big name customers. Not to name names, but we do a lot of high end computer work for one of the largest entertainment venues in Central Florida. I can't mention the other customers, but we have a lot of clients that like the security of our facility, and their business in part helped fund this little venture.

And, technically, I'm "in charge" of it all. Well, that's as true as it can get considering I'm the network admin. There's a lot for me to do here... well, at least when I'm not playing TF2 across an OC768. Wink

Can't mention other clients? I'm sure it's possible for confidentiality agreements with any companies will cover that, but for some reason I get a government vibe from that line. Wonder if they've ever seen any black helicopters flying around their place? >.>

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned TRON yet Confused

ETA: Or Hackers, for that matter Laughing

Anywho, my suggestions are as follows:

Movie: Serenity
Song: Terminal Sect - Who Made Who (Yes, I know AC/Dc did the original, but I prefer Terminal Sect's version.)
Book: Max Barry - The Zombie Survival Guide: Complete Protection from the Living Dead
Work of Art: Firefly - Joss Whedon

. . . what? Shocked

Nice try, but OC192 is the current limit for public or private lease. OC768 is a carrier grade backbone and requires a fully optical switch and router. AT&T and Verizon aren't even finished with their MPLS network yet and Sprint has only just started. Atlanta is the closest city with a connection and its a trunk line. No one has run that kind of line down to Miami yet.

But lets go with the flow for a minute and suppose they do have an OC768. What the hell do you do with that much bandwidth when your supercomputer isn't allowed access to the Internet? Don't say "hosting" because with 40Gbps, you wouldn't be a startup company. You would be Google or Yahoo.

Looks interesting, I'm in.

Already read through all the other posts here and signed up for Beta, got my email and everything.

I asked:
Quote:
Let's say someone walked down a path until it forked. A nearby sign said one path went to safety and the other went to danger, but didn't say which path went where. A nearby information both had two brothers manning it, one always telling the truth, one always lying, as said in a pamphlet found on the booth's counter, but again didn't say which. If you only had one question to ask the two, total, what question should the person walking down the path ask to determine which path went to safety?

Let's see how he does, if he understands the concept of lying and all that. Twisted Evil

I also reommended:
Quote:
Movie: The Day the Earth Stood Still
Song: 1812 Overture by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky
Book: Superheroes and Philosophy edited by Tom Morris and Matt Morris
Art: Books are art, right? "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" and "Through the Looking Glass" by Lewis Carroll
