Great work Nighthawk! I'd love to know how many hours you put into this. It certainly is appreciated!

Praise

Thanks Nighthawk... If you ever need help with another one, keep me in mind. I have about 2 websites that I'm not even using.

Sidenote: My favorite e-mail from Josh..

I just learned about ARG's 3 days ago. 2 days ago I discovered Looking Glass Labs. Yesterday I followed Looking Glass Labs like it is a post-postmodern number one literary thriller bestseller. Today I saw behind the curtain of my first ever ARG at the endgame.

Fantastic. Fabulous. More real than real.

I'm in.

Oh I'll definitely do this again... but next time mayhaps I won't do one that's in "real time". I don't think I can keep up with that, especially considering I have one customer now that's rather pissed. Wink

If I create one, I'm considering one that might be "fire and forget". But, then again, the interactions and the "make stuff up as you go" was the most entertaining part of this, so who knows.

I coded both websites during my 3 hour commute on MetroBus, MetroRail and Tri-Rail. That took a couple of days; I've done that sort of thing enough times that it was rather quick.

What took the longest are the 3DStudio renderings, but that's by nature and because I didn't know anything about how to use 3DS until before this (last time I used it was ten years ago). If I was able to find a local store that actually sold *real* Rubik's Cubes (not those new fangled digital ones), maybe I wouldn't have spent so much time on that damn cube.

And I am, by nature, constantly online while I work, so I was answering emails and making posts all day for the past two weeks during compile breaks or when people weren't looking.

For what it's worth, I've learned more about 3DStudio Max, Photoshop and Fireworks than I could ever learn in any school. Very Happy

It seems my ARG has been a death sentence to those involved in the industry.

The day the ARG started (March 5th), the creator of Eliza (on which ALICE and JoshuaBot were loosely based), Joseph Weizenbaum, passed away.

Today, Arthur C. Clarke, the writer of 2001: A Space Odyssey and several other books, has passed...

Up to us to keep the dreams alive then NH and your arg did an amazing job of that. i love that grassroots args turn out to have the best experience and gameplay. We need to right an article for argnetso this gets the recognition it deserves.

Yay Nighthawk! Congrats on the game! Wish I would've jumped in; it looks like everyone had a lot of fun.

I'm going to unsticky this topic now, just so that new players won't think it's still running, but feel free to continue using this topic for discussion.

Wowsers...

Many thanks Nighthawk! I really did enjoy this whilst I had the time to commit to it - in many ways the pace was too frantic - but it made it extremely interesting!

Hah...Lovin it...

I didn't play or know about this game, was off doing other things awhile, but recently checking in on UF to see what's up I read up on LGL via the upcomingDarkLight game (temporarily confused as all hell by the injected pastry wars! heh)...and the meta threads on these unspoken rules for args...and I just gotta say this, feeling totally vindicated...

ALL HAIL THE RULE BREAKERS!

You know, the mindset that tells noobs that they really shouldn't try to pull off a solo game, you need a team to make a "good" game and you aren't talented enough to be multiple characters and solo games usually implode and aren't that well done, so basically go find other people and do it the "right" way....

And now here a bunch of ya are with the Rock On and the Worshippy and the Shocked it was one dude and no "we" and no "team" and you guys apparently dug the hell out of this game across the board...AND have an even bigger base for DarkLight, many people knowing even that

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
it's not even really done either way at this point

And...what with the BC blog system he's set up for PMs for IG/OOG use that seems well received, I am duly vindicated when I suggested months and months ago that there are those out there who aren't going to follow any cookie cutter methodology, who might indeed come up with a hella game created totally solo, despite the predictions of failure and agony - and instead encourage them, help them, support those who might work better on their own.

Of course, nobody was listening to me since hardly anyone knows me from a hole in the wall but that's okay...Nighthawk is the posterboy for beyond the box arg development....so here's a big old

Flounder Red Herring Trout

for the naysayers and a big

Mr. Green Rock On

to Nighthawk for helping me make my case in real time!

Okay, I had to do that...it's encouraging and admirable more than not. Hopefully it will motivate other newcomers out there to just go for it, jump in, hands on, make it up as you go...which is what some people seem to miss around here.

It's still a game...it doesn't need a science behind it, doesn't need pompousassed, goofball pseudointellectual articles on philosophy and dynamic design and how args favor in to the cultural economic sociology of intercity group mind dynamics...with dissertations and theses...

pffft...who cares about all that - not the majority of people here...they all repeat the same pattern: they all wanna jump in and play or create, they don't give one damn about a dissertation on game dynamics.

So hats off to Nighthawk for jumpin out the box and reminding some of you guys that it's just a game, it's all about entertainment, pleasure, and fun...which is what you guys seemed to get with this one. Have FUN!

PLAY!

Who knows what's up for DL, but I'm kinda sorry I missed LGL.
