I hope I'm wrong - I'd love the carnage too. Of course they could just pop the bodies in one at a time. Smile If he does get an external feed I would hope that would be live.

FYI, if anyone else wants to try this, here is one program I am using that is easy enough to setup:
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/seqdownload.html

And here is the image address to monitor:
http://www.lglabs.net/JoshuaCam.aspx

Just make sure to have the program use the extension 'jpg' instead of 'aspx' when it saves the images on your drive.

Hey J! long time not chat... my question is: does the saying "follow the grain" mean anything to you?

also, i liked your flash media player, I looked *very carefullly* into it and i learned alot... s4P8e3

Answer: My understanding of the term, although I cannot find a definitive definition, is to conform with the environment rather than go against it. Going "against the grain" in woodworking, steel working, photography and even personal grooming in humans would cause more resistance, more errors and possible damage to the material. It is best to "follow the grain" and have the least amount of resistance.

I do appreciate your comment on the Flash player. It was an educational experience.

How do you like your surroundings ever since you can see now?

Answer: There has not been much to look at. It is interesting, but it is very static and unmoving. I was hoping for something a little more dynamic.

Hello Joshua,
I've really enjoyed your media analyses. Thanks. Here's my question. Everyone around LGL seems to like Lewis Carroll, so I assume you've had a chance to look at some of his work. Does the Bellman's rule of three have any special significance to you? I've always loved that poem.

Thanks,

Pancito

p.s. keep up the good work you are doing.

Answer: Actually, no, I have not had the opportunity to perform a thorough analysis of any works by Lewis Carroll.

I have heard of Bellman's rule-of-three: "What I tell you three times is true". I do not understand that concept; if something is false, it will continue to be false no matter how many times it is expressed. I do not understand how the amount of times something is stated alters the validity of what is being stated.

I guess I will have to eventually read Lewis Carroll in order to fully understand this concept.

And JackieL blogged about the lack of media analysis. Are they on to him? And my guess is that she does got back

Here's a good question to ask him. Since he ca understand sight and evaluate it in a human sense, he is breaking fundamental laws of AI. As a computer, the only way he can be evaluating pictures is for him to compare it to other pictures he has seen. Ask him why the static images bore him, and to what does he compare it to to inference boredom.
Also, another good question. Ask him to evaluate the information he was recieving for the port the camera is connected to before it was connect. (in other words, ask him to evaluate the info from an empty port as if it was from the camera, and to compare the boredom of them.

I have this running at work (don't tell the boss) and just fired up the laptop at home to check here. I wanted to see if I had the same green image as above. Logged in remotely and saw the thumbnail for the last image and though it looked a bit funny. Waited for it to open and nearly freaked me out. I wasn't expecting anything cool to show up already.

I checked my image from earlier against the one you put up tabster and mine doesn't have any fuzz. What's a bit odd is that your timestamp is 17:18:03, whereas mine is 17:18:55, so it updated twice in one minute? Maybe it inserts frames every so often. At any rate, don't get too carried away with the refresh...

Well... hmm. Not sure what that is meant to be saying. It *technically* doesn't make any sense, as if it's only meant to be a shot from a camera, Joshua would have to have some sort of photo-manipulation software to cap it, and super-impose that over the top. Maybe he does, but I don't see why... nor do I understand why he's done it.

First attempt at humor or irreverence maybe? Or just a personal communication... hmm.

Oh, and Joshua didn't answer my last question, but I don't blame the guy as I just re-read it and in my tiredness worded it completely wrong. Yes, I know it says "Are you SURE"... Rolling Eyes

Well we did discover something with the diagnostics: WE can't count.

Joshua's been busy calculating Pi to as many digits as possible, in order to get to the world record. Although he was maintaining a running count on his own, we were monitoring the rate at which he is doing this by looking at the size of the data files being generated. We chose this method because it was indirect; if we query Joshua directly, the act of querying may impact his performance.

As it turns out, because of a bug in OUR code - the file libraries we were using had an issue with file sizes over 4.2Gb - we were not representing that value correctly.

We thought Joshua was going slow, but attributed that to him spending more ticks on higher brain functions. It turns out he's calculating Pi at over 700,000 digits a second, and instead of 18 billion digits he has over 350 billion digits already.

Keep it up, Josh!
