Goldman Detectives New ARG from Germany I usually reported it in "Spam"-thread, but it seems to be greater thing as just a joke.
Anyway:
After Final Mill there is new weird thing happening in Germany.
Many German bloggers recieved today a package with Motorola, razor and tooth brush.
Like this:
Source: http://www.blogwiese.de
What can it be?
The (uncomplete) list of bloggers, who recieved the package can be found at Patmo forum
http://forum.patmo.de/index.php?topic=159.0
One blogger (who recieved a mobil phone) recieved also a fax today, from a company named "Goldman Detectives", with a message:
Quote:
Be careful about your new mobile phone.

After some research we've found:
Goldman Detectives at twitter: http://twitter.com/GMDetectives
Their website: http://www.goldman-detectives.com/
And even a book, they published named Traced! Online-Personenrecherche
(Traced! Online personal investigations)
And the press release of this book said:
Quote:
Erfahren Sie mehr über Nachbarn, Bewerber
oder Geschäftspartner, Ehegatten und
verlorene Familienmitglieder!
i.e.
Quote:
Learn more about your neighbours, applicants or business partners, husband/wife and family members, who got lost
Goldman Detectives seem to have a partners.
In UK:
Security Industry Authority (SIA) http://www.the-sia.org.uk/
Association of British Investigators (ABI) http://www.theabi.org.uk/
And in France.
The Partners seem to be OOG.

So that many people received a PHONE in the mail?!? Damn! Makes my measly cube seem so insignificant...
Germany seems to have a big ARG following... I tried to follow Final Mill, but I couldn't spend the time to deal with the language barrier.

Should we be looking for a hijacked Motorola delivery truck then?

It was Motorola Motofone f3.
Something like this

And perhaps - perhaps - this ARG is made by the same people as Final Mill.
Who knows?..

Lol the entry at the german lawblog about this brought me to ARGs actually.. Im watching this one eagerly as Im still not sure what to think about it. When Goldman denied connection it might have been a herring as the first Fax they sent sounds quite amateurish tbh. Also, even as there is some humor in the hunter/pray postcard that appeared I cant believe someone seriously would write a book about online investigations and security and put "hunting pictures" into it as illustrations...
Well, sounds like theres something bigger still hiding. Im only waiting for the mobiles to start ringing...

Stupid question: did the phones include a CHARGER?

Yes, you are right - that fax is really weird. The thing is, the whole ARG is full of references to "Final Mill" - and this makes me (and plenty others) think, the ARG is not made by vm-people (who made "Final Mill"), and there could me something more than just an ARG (a ripp of? a parody?)
And yes, the phone wqas ringing one time: http://forums.wow-europe.com/thread.html?topicId=3779578119&sid=3
Here somebody of WoW-fans also got qa phone with a sim-card.
And there was alarm with voice message, which said something like "find the child and rescue it."
I don't know, what to think.
