Cracking The Weaver Code
...something of a game

So we've been involved in the creation of this online mystery which connects medieval history with modern-day conspiracy theory, in the hope of promoting an upcoming film.

It begins with this: The Weaver Code.

Can you solve the mystery? Or have we all been wasting our time?

Yeah, there's a point. And it's supposed to be ugly. Ugly and genuine. Genuinely ugly. (And the word is 'amateurish'. Laughing )

The general concept has the potential to be fascinating. I am curious as to the age group you are targeting? The website has a bit of a school project feel about it, and as such could struggle to inspire. Maybe have a word with someone who knows web design, and see if you can tighten it up a little. It might be a good idea to move this question over to PM help, you should get some constructive input there!
Good luck with your project!

Well, after viewing the website listed above, i was immediately turned off from it because it does look very "elementary".. But maybe thats because we are use to web designes by PMs that are far beyond anything that is rudemintary... Dunno

There's also this video (which for some reason - probably incompetence - I was unable to embed).

From here, which is also kind of interesting.

But if you were to design a site that was meant to have been created by an ageing academic as an online repository for his life's work (which happens to be some fusty old thing concerning medieval weavers), surely you wouldn't create a supersnazzy Web 2.0 professional-looking site. You'd try and create something that an ageing academic with no real web skills would put together. No?

WeaverChap, if you're involved in the production of this game, you need to read the following:

Per the above, people involved in the creation and production of a game are not to post in the threads on this forum pertaining to their game. You are currently violating these terms.

OK a little redundant given the PM just posted a response (get back behind the curtain btw before you start to really piss people off) but I typed it so I'm going to post it :

I'm going to play advocate here:

1. The guy (or gal) has already said the site is intentionally ugly and amateurish. TINAG anyone? Some nut with a theory on whatever ancient mystery is, more often than not, going to have a crappy frontpage hatchet-job of a site. I'm just surprised it's not on geocities. In short - I've seen worse.

2. Whether the dropped "s" in the first gnosticism link is a genuine typo or not I leave to speculation.

3. At least it's not Templars again. Smile

On to the site itself:

According to whois info on tucows the registrant is South-East/East Anglia based. The site says it was last updated end of 2007 but the whois says the creation date is March this year.

A basic summary is that Weavers is a nickname for Cathars. They were all horribly killed by those evil Catholics (or were they...?).

They supposedly had great treasures but the author thinks it was just their weavings. These weavings contain a multi-layered code that reveals guidance on The End Times (tm) - prophecy, etc.

They used a code equivalent to five bit binary to encode messages in to cloth they wove through forcing errors in to the weaving process. The code is doubley encoded as there is some transformation needed to make it in to a dialect Latin language spoken in Southern France at the time.

The author is bringing out a book on the subject so he's a little cagey on the specifics.

So it's all very exciting, world is ending, ancient prophecies, etc.

Now you don't necessarily have to visit the site - assuming I didn't miss anything. Twisted Evil
