Yeah, he is right, one: we don't really know what the full set of words were and

two: It may just be coincedence that it is there...

P.S: Nighthawk, have you got any good tutorials for c++, and how do you get Visual Studio (is VS for C++?) Thanks.

1) No, I personally don't have tutorials, but the 'net is full of them.

2) I paid several thousand dollars for a Microsoft Developer's Network subscription. Educational versions may be reasonably priced, and I think there are some free versions you can download from Microsoft.

Microsoft's Visual Studio Express Editions product line offers free-to-download development tools. They have Visual Basic, C#, and C++ versions. The Express Edition doesn't come with all the bells and whistles as the full studio, but, it's enough to get started.

For online tutorials, you can check into http://www.gamdev.net/. However, I highly recommend learning C++ out-of-book -- online tutorials provide decent lectures here and there, but usually don't explain things in-depth, and often times have buggy examples or teach poor programming practices. The C++ Primer by Stephen Prata is a solid start. Or, if you're looking for something cost-effective (otherwise known as "free"), then download the electronic versions of Thinking in C++ by Bruce Eckel.

Sent another e-mail to Stephanie Loyola, since she didn't answer my first mail. Here's what I wrote:

Quote:
Hello Mrs. Loyola, hope you're better. We're still trying to decrypt the code you've found in Mr. Loyola's computer, but we still couldn't come to a conclusion. We're also trying to find how "Joseph Capablanka" is related to your husband's lost. We're trying our best, but anything you can tell as about this Capablanka guy, relationship between Robert and Sofia or maybe anything else can help us to find what happened to your husband.

Best,

Cagri

The emails(3) I have gotten from Steph, are from the 12th and the 20th of March. She has not replied to my last one either....so probably just on Spring Break until next week, hopefully.

I suppose Stephanie, Robert, and the rest of the gang would be busy speaking with the police, preparing the funeral, mourning, etc. If there's no word from anyone within the next week, then I'll start to worry.

Edit: Did a little checking. Spring Break for Savannah College was last week. However, on the 24th, Savannah started a new quarter. I hope the team is able to stick together -- most of them are probably busy with new classes.

What I feel is that the starting puzzle was too tough: remember there were two totally unrelated clues (the code in the source when you tried to login with testUser, and the bar.png in the source of the mail from support bot) which were part of the same puzzle... and when you combine them (thanks to the PM who told us how)... we get nothing. And I don't know where else to look for ideas.

I know this is a student project, but... maybe should have began with something easier? or at least something more... "focused"? Unless their project needs to know how long do the players wait untill they get tired of not advancing Razz

I'm already bored of that neverending "response waiting" sequence. No one's answering messages, no one gives a clue, so we're waiting, they're waiting, but nobody knows how much we should wait more.

You may be absolutely on the money on that. On one of the OOG blogs, someone wrote that the group was going to document every step of this project, so that may be one of the conditions.

Although Capablanca's e-mails lead us to believe otherwise, I can't help but wonder if we were supposed to keep Alex from dying.

Of course, for what it's worth, I also wonder if the PMs simply haven't figured out how to cope with the abilities of the UF folk and how to proceed past the seemingly unbreakable code snippet.

OOG

I hope this wasn't out of line, but I contacted a few of the PMs of Project Loyola asking if the ARG had been canceled or merely delayed (I couldn't find anything in the Terms of Service against such an action -- is this considered bad form?). Seeing as how the project's been dark for nearly two weeks now, contacting the PMs seemed necessary. Anyway, here's the response I got:
Quote:
The ARG plans to continue. We were on break for a week as it was our spring break. The project will definitely be continued as one of the team members is continuing to use it as a project for a class this term, and many of the team are still on board. Development is perhaps a little delayed as we figure out who is still working on this, but I can assure you it will keep going.

Good news for us. A little patience, and everything should be back in full swing again. Smile

New email from Code Monkey

Quote:
redloyola has been updated.
if you have a code, you may want to try it.
logging in is futile.
they are coming.

Whether it was bad form or not Omega it worked! We finally have an update.

Well, I guess I was wrong on all counts in my last post. But since y'all figured out the code, I guess it's only fair that I figured out how to use it...

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

http://www.redloyola.com/94H4013d168a44j8/

Text says:
Alex wasn't the first
Another loyola is next

The word "loyola" is in the same tone of red found on the company info page when the company name is mentioned.

The picture is titled "future.jpg"; it's a woodcut entitled "The Revelation of St John: The Four Riders of the Apocalypse" by Albrecht Dürer and can be found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Durer_Revelation_Four_Riders.jpg.

[SPEC] With the colored text, I'm thinking that someone else at the company is being targeted, not Stephanie or Meren. [END SPEC]

Curse you!!!! *shakes fist* !!!

I was so focused on the cipher being used for the login... Well, excellent job, Larry. Smile

Hrmm, good point. "Another loyola" could refer either to someone at the company or members of Alex's family. I'm leaning towards the family (probably Stephanie), but we shouldn't rule out redLoyola employees. Speaking of which, Robert is the only other redLoyola worker we know of. Do we want to tell him about this?

Coffeebean, you've been in contact with Stephanie the most. Will you send her an email about the foreboding? Nothing too scary. A friendly, "Look out!! There's an axe murder behind you!!!!" will suffice.

Edit: Image doesn't appear to be stegged. Also, I updated the wiki with the latest info.

Thanks. I was focused on this being a login cipher too, but with Capablanca's e-mail stating that the website had been updated and not to bother logging in, something went off in my head and said "try this," so I did.

See what hanging around y'all has done to me? Very Happy

I was thinking the same initially, but the color change of the text was bugging me, so I can't help but think that it's going to be Robert.

I knew there was something I forgot to do... actually, is there any steganalysis software for Mac OS X? As I don't know, I'm not able to check that stuff.
