BCC isn't reliable either; some mail servers (like Ipswitch's, for example) will ignore the BCC command if you put too many addresses, and it will cram all the addresses in the "to" field for all to see.

My former employer almost lost a multi-million dollar client for doing something like that: they tried to send one email to 200+ people, so they put them all in the "BCC". The Ipswitch mail relay ignored the order and put ALL the addresses in the "To" field anyway.

Best solution is to send separate emails, but sometimes that might be a technical issue.

*EDIT*
Yet another "top of page"... Seven today!

[META] The team has put up a "post-mortem"

Don't know how many of you are interested, but I sure was.

The "Behind the Curtain" META-blog (http://projectloyola.wordpress.com/) has been updated. There is a link to the postmortem for Project Loyola.

The link leads to a document at: http://www.gamecareerguide.com/features/525/student_postmortem_scads_project_.php?page=1

This is not the final report, but rather a kind of "what's gone on so far" situation. It also explains why Project Loyola is moving so slow right now (finals separated the class and the group, and the number of active participants on the PM team dropped from 10 to two).

It's a good read, and there are some interesting tidbits about what they have encountered in both design and application.

For example, as mentioned earlier, we accidentally left an image on a web site that wasn't supposed to be seen by the players, which caused us to call an emergency meeting. The image said, "Alex is Dead: Deal with that shit." It was meant to be a placeholder for a possible puzzle clue that we would figure out later. What's more, not everyone on the development team even knew that it was there. If we had been able to play test the game in a more traditional sense, this image would have been found and removed. As such, our team was forced to scramble to try and protect the ARG's story, rewriting some of our plot line to now incorporate that found image.

My bad! (Does this mean I killed Alex? Shocked)
Postmortem wrote:
The code for the color bars used specific RGB values from the image as numbers inside the code. However, we never tested the color bar's color values after it was saved as a PNG file. The Mac version of Photoshop did something to the color values, making the players' resulting code completely different from our own. We ultimately were forced to change what the code was used for (originally, it allowed the player to gain access to a users-only area of the Red Loyola web site).

We tried so hard to get into that users-only area. I thought for sure we had the right code back then...

The postmortem is certainly enlightening. I didn't realize they were having such troubles with their team, and I guess we have been moving through the recent clues rather quickly. If the remaining PMs are willing to stick it through even after such unexpected events, then they can count on my continued participation. I'll be more patient now. Wink

I'm sure you've read my blog post about what happened to cause the closer of red loyola in the last couple of weeks.

Please be sure to spread the word to our fellow friends to let them know how outrageous these allegations are.

The email was titled "Ecstaticorp." Their website appears to be: http://www.ecstaticorp.com/

Also, Robert mentions his blog, but we haven't found a blog for Robert yet... Start searching!

I've searched, but no luck finding a blog.

Anyway, I realized we haven't really tried the asking approach much, so, in my reply to Robert questioning him about Ecstaticorp, I asked if he would give us the blog link. Maybe he'll be nice. Wink

Update

Ask and you shall receive! Thanks Robert. Smile

Robert Morgan wrote:
Oh. I guess reading my blog would help to know who Ecstaticorp is. Here's the URL for my blog

http://robertmorgan1971.blogspot.com

I try to update this when I have the time and urge, which isn't too often these days. The lies of Ecstaticorp can be found on the news page. I'll let you read it before I go into a deluge of a rant.

ETA: Ah, so that's why they closed. Red Loyola was purchased by Ecstaticorp. The lies that Robert is referring to are probably this news entry:

Ecstaticorp wrote:
In an effort to help a New York advertising firm [Red Loyola?], Estaticorps brillant team of lawyers have taken control of the otherwise corrupt and failing company. Employees of the firm, now under the Estaticorp umbrella, have been more that happy with the recent acquisition by our company.

A few of the firms previous employees have expressed disinterest in Estaticorps 60-hour work week schedule, which promotes happiness and well being amongst employees, and have opted to not stay with the company.

I thought Red Loyola was located in Spain. I wonder what New York firm they're referring to...?

Cagri,

Sure. I haven't had much time to keep it updated recently. I try to post when I can, which doesn't seem to often.

lol ~ I had this friend throughout school, name was Sam, and he asked me one day what time I was born (our birthdays are on the same day). His birth-hour turned out to be seven or so hours before mine, and ever since he found that out, he pestered me nonstop about being the oldest, that I was too young, that he'd have his birthday party before mine, that I was too far behind him, shouldn't even try to catch up, etc. So, I feel for ya, Chinga. Wink

Speaking of which... Another email from Robert!

Hrm. That's weird. The news page got set back for an hour for some reason. It's back to how it was when I originally saw it now.

From the Ecstaticorp website's news section:

Ecstaticorp wrote:
april '08 - PANAL+

After the founder of a company decided to no longer work with the same passion as he previously did, a server architecture company was approaching bankruptcy. Ecstaticorp was proud to step in and acquire the company in order to help release the product in it's full form to the public.

Be sure to look forward to PANAL+, an improved version of this company's original architecture, in the upcoming months!

Meta: Okay, so, ignore the January 08 entry on the Ecstaticorp website. I'm guessing the PMs forgot to update the site. That, or an older version was getting caught in the cache. All is well, now. Smile

Okay, so here's the new stuff we don't know about:

1. So Cute!!.jpg. It doesn't seem to be hiding info the same way as previous images and I couldn't find anything with stegdetect.

2. Estaticorp:
A. They seem to be releasing Panal to the public (ie:us.) We'll probally just have to wait for this one.
B. The site mentions an email, but doesn't show it. It could be important, seeing as Estaticorp owns redloyola (beta-Panal+, anyone?)

Anything I missed?

Well, I clicked on this bookmark to see one last time, before I delete it...
and there is enough new stuff to keep me for a few more days....I have a feeling I will be playing this same ARG when my kids put me in a nursing home. I've joined Hurtstoheal.com (check it out, you guys would like this one) so that I have something to do while waiting for this to play out.

CHA-CHING!!

Meeting with Code Monkey, tomorrow!

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
At http://www.loyolascholarship.org/friends/, I tried "ecstaticorp" as the password for "the opponent" (has to be lowercase), and voilà!

4/27/08 2:30pm EST codemonkey327 us.undernet.org #FOA

us.undernet.org is the IRC server, #FOA is the channel. Be there or be square!

Oh, and before we storm Code Monkey and devour his brain... What should we ask???

My immediate questions:
  • Who are you?
  • What's this Ecstaticorp thing?
  • Are you a monkey?
  • Who killed Alex?
  • If a train left from Bostom heading west at 20 mph, and another train left from Seattle at the same time heading east at 35 mph, at what point would they cross?
  • Have you been hacking the Loyola websites? If so, will you be my friend?

ETA: Wiki has been updated with the Ecstaticorp stuff.

Im a square.

Do I have to download mirc? I don't know how else to join.
Ask him if he is Alex. Ask who is watching. Ask how we are supposed to help a company in Spain. Ask if he is Robert(If #1 is no) Ask if he works/worked at RedLoyola. Ask if he is Sophia (if #4 no) Ask if he works/worked for Rivera Capital. Ask if he ever saw Alex's body (if #1 no).

I have the feeling we won't get to ask anything. He will just paste some saying and leave. I know, I'm trying not to be pessimistic, but can't help myself.

So tell me how to get there.

An "in game" IRC chat? Boy, these guys are more daring than I thought.

I might be around for that. I promise I'll be nice. Smile
