Nice!
I am sure these are all pictures in Georgia also. I think we can disregard the previous pictures from December. From the order of the pictures, I am assuming the smallest number is first. That makes the starting point in Atlanta, moving southeast, thru Jackson (Sagon RV), to Statesborro, GA.

Do you think we should tell Stephanie this information?

Good catch - I didn't think about the picture numbering or the lack of distortion on the Pittsburgh pics.

Has anyone gotten any response yet from Stephanie? Maybe we should ask if she has seen the Atlanta pictures?

Well, I am absolutely stumped. I can't figure out what R+G-BHR*B-RdB/2+RaG-B-GjB-G means...

But, I have a new idea: We could risk submitting a lost password request to redLoyola's support staff. I'm worried that asking them may result in the deletion of the testUser account, as the imaginary staff may say, "That's a test account we created a while back, that shouldn't be there." Might be worth a shot, though.

Another route: If anyone gets a hold of Stephanie, we could attempt to coerce her into giving up Alex's username and password. I'm sure this info is on Alex's computer or on a piece of paper somewhere around the house. One of us could write her claiming to be an investigator for the police or something similar.

Thoughts?

some OOG some IG

OOG: I am concerned that since this project is known to be run by college students......that updates are not happening regularly. If it is only going to be updated during class time, then it might not keep my attention. Classes might only be on Tuesdays and Thursdays....and we all know that partying might take priority over 'school projects' (lol) I wonder if the teacher will let us grade their project Razz

IG: For a devoted wife, Stephanie sure isn't looking for Alex too quickly. I did post a comment on her blog sloyola.livejournal.com asking for any more information and screen names. No new blog entries and I have not received any emails. I might add another comment later, letting her know that he is probably being held in Georgia.

Alex's flickr photo catagory "vuelo a eua" translates to Flight to USA (which we already knew)

Ok I've not been playing this so much as just checking in now and then but... I just recieved an email which I'm assuming is from here...?

It's titled "To the friends of Alex" and the contents merely says

Quote:
The pawn is dead
The queen is scheming
The opponent is winning
The predator lays dormant

-Capablanca

Found this while googling Capablanca http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capablanca_chess

How sure are you that that is for this ARG? D8E4A2 are clues in Cloverfield, possibly chess positions. And that one was musical notes or something.

OH, I didn't see the "friends of Alex" part.

Email from Steph
and my reply to it.

Quote:
Hi BettyLou41,

Sorry I took so long to get back to you. It's been a hectic time here as you can probably understand. I'm a wreck trying to find out what has happened to Alex. All I know is he was going to Atlanta to talk with a potential sponsor for our scholarship fund. Originally I thought it was a job offer, but it turns out that it was just more money for the scholarship. Alex is like that; always worrying about others over himself.
Robert heard from him last; telling him that he was taking a day trip to go meet up with the sponsor, who was out of town. Since then, no word from him. He was supposed to call when he got into town (wherever that was). His phone doesn't work internationally, but I've been calling it anyways to find out what has happened to him. It's been a real hassle working internationally to find out what has happened to him.
The only email addresses I have for him is his work email, alexSPLATredloyola.com, but how can this help at all?! He didn't have access to a computer once he left Atlanta; he didn't bother to bring his with him. Told me he wanted to be unplugged while he was there. God. I don't know what to do now. Meren is wondering when daddy is coming home, and I don't know what to tell her.
Have you heard any information about where he might have gone?

- S. Loyola

Stephanie,
Thanks for the reply. I have seen some photograph's on Alex's flickr page, that may indicate he is still in Georgia, USA. I would tend to think that Alex still has some access to a computer. The pictures have been uploaded after the date (Feb 26th?) that he was last heard from. I will relay your reply to the rest of our group, and get more thoughts and different perspectives. We are happy to help and if there is anything else you need, don't hesitate to ask. Although we don't currently have anyone in Georgia, we do have contacts all over the USA, which is slightly better than being in Spain.

Would it be okay to give your email address to others helping to locate Alex?

I'll be in touch, hopefully with better news soon,
Betty Lou

Yep, that's for us. To add, the sender of the email was: codemonkey327SPLATgmail.com

Don't strike that thought.

R+G-BHR*B-RdB/2+RaG-B-GjB-G

R = rook
G = the G file
B = bishop
H = the H file
a = the A file, or possibly the bishop (Spanish notation uses 'A' for bishop)
d = the D file, or the queen (Spanish notation uses 'D' for queen)
+ = king is in check
x = capture (using * instead?)
/ = pawn promotion (older notation)
- = for full notation, separates beginning and end position (i.e. e4-e5)

It's possible our code refers to a famous chess line/opening. In particular, one of Jose Capablanca's. However, the code is missing a lot of numbers to be accurate chess notation...

random thought

Alex did NOT take his computer with him to Atlanta. Shall I ask Steph to 'snoop' around in it? If it has not been taken by the *word for spanish police here* to be examined?

Yes, definitely ask. Access to Alex's computer would help immensely.

Steph's email

Another email from Stephanie, ok'ing to give out her email addy:

Betty Lou,

That's wonderful news to hear! The more people we can get to help locate Alex the happier I will be. Whether he has access to a computer or not, he still hasn't contacted me, which has me very worried. I can barely sleep at night without him there.

I have also seen those Flickr photos. The corrupted ones, right? They gave no clue to me as to where he might be.

Feel free to give out my email address to others that may have any information regarding where Alex is. The more information we get, the closer we will be to finding my husband!

Stephanie.

In standard chess notation, the files are lowercase letters, not uppercase. So I would tend to accept "a" and "d" as file markers instead of "G" and "H".

Also, I might accept that it's somehow chess moves, but not an opening. Since he's been mentioned, here's every game Capablanca ever played:
http://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessplayer?pid=47544

What caught my attention on that sequence is the division symbol is dead center:

Code:
R+G-BHR*B-RdB /
2+RaG-B-GjB-G

So I'm new here... where do I start? How do I get in to this game? Where do I sign up?

And my father's from Barcelona, Spain, by the way. If you need *any* info from there, I can surely get it. Smile

I am thinking the capablanca poem, has something in it.....like number of words, number of syllables, or something like that. No such poem by capablanca shows up anywhere that I have searched....if it's a real quote, let me know. The answer has to be check, checkmate, something like that?

The RGB code is beyond me.....where exactly was this code?

I emailed the support staff at redLoyola telling them about the Code Monkey email. Robert gave me a response:
Robert Morgan wrote:
Code Monkey? I have no clue who that is. I don't see how this relates to Alex's disappearance, but I guess there could be some correlation? Who knows. I looked up Capablanca though. He seems to be some sort of Chess Grand Master. This doesn't sound like something related to Alex. I don't think I've ever seen him play chess before and he's definitely never mentioned that name. Feel free to contact me directly with any new information you might have instead of going through our support form. You can use my personal email address, which is robert.morgan1971SPLATgmail.com. Please tell others to use this also, as the information regarding Alex's disappearance is beginning to clog our support system.

So, start emailing Robert directly, stop using redLoyola's support address.

Awesome. Another email address. Smile

Not a quote, but the form is familiar. Going on your hunch, I did a quick analysis of the Capablanca email:

Syllables: 4, 5, 7, 7
Word count: 4 per line, 16 total
Character count: 73, 85 with spaces
a–5 c–1 d–4 e–10 g–2 h–5 i–6 l–1 m–2 n–9 o–4 p–4 q–1 r–3 s–5 t–7 u–1 w–2 y–1

This analysis does _not_ include the "-Capablanca" at the end.

Go to http://www.redloyola.com, and in the top-right corner is a username and password field. If you enter the username "testUser" and submit the form (try any password you think might be correct), you'll get a page saying "Incorrect username or password." However, if you view the page's HTML source and scroll down a bit, you'll notice a commented piece of text (HTML uses the "<!--" and "-->" tags to comment). Within the comment is our code, which appears only when "testUser" is entered into the login form.

Welcome Nighthawk! The contact with your father will be a big help. I'm sure your added input will go a long way towards solving this mystery. Great to have you aboard. Smile

For getting started, I've been periodically posting summaries of the information we've uncovered so far. To get a quick overview of things, read my post here: http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=494468#494468.

Everything in that post is still relevant, with the addition of Stephanie Loyola's website. A summary of the information on Stephanie's site is here: http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=495110#495110.

I will post another summary of data in the next little while. For now, we are still stuck trying to figure out how to decode:

R+G-BHR*B-RdB/2+RaG-B-GjB-G

We initially thought it was color-related, due to the repeated use of R's, G's, and B's (RGB). But, given the recent email, it is likely related to Jose Capablanca and/or chess. Now to connect the dots....

Just to hit the ground running, I sent a message to red loyola asking for more information on PANAL and their product line.

Sent message in Spanish, using my real name (which is of Catalan origin, from Barcelona, Spain), stating that I am a representative of Pegaso (a trucking company with a plant in Barcelona; my father worked there forty years ago).
