[RING] [CHAT] Eli Hunt 3/6

Okay, I'm just going to post this and then I'm going to go down to the pool and work out!

I had previously had email conversation with Hunt, so he was on my list and I noticed he was online.

So, being the "meddling kid" that I am, I poked him...

If you decide to poke him. Don't mention me please. I'm trying to make him think I'm sane or something.

It seems to be working...

THE FOOL! MUAHAHAHAHA! Smile

Hits: Hello there Mr. Hunt.

thelostgames: Hello. Pardon me, I had to review my correspondence to remind myself of our earlier conversation.
I do agree that the great Earth shaker most certainly refers to Poseidon, who was often blamed for the local seismic activity.

Hits: That's quite alright. I suppose with an ad on an Olympic website you must get lots of people contacting you. Smile
Was the chamber a shrine to him do you suppose?
Or am I interrupting your preparations for your lecture?

thelostgames: It may well have been. It seems very clear that its occupants were afraid of the god, and perhaps were attempting to appease him -- although perhaps not so successfully.
Yes, I thank you for your kindness in understand I can only talk briefly, as I do have a professional obligation to my friends at the society.

Hits: Oh I'm a graduate student, I understand research being time consuming. Smile
One quick question, okay two?
Why would Olympic Gamekeepers be concerned with Poseidon? It was my understanding that the Olympic Games were dedicated to Zeus and that Poseidon has his own games. (Possibly more to do with horses?)
And secondly do you have any reading material to suggest to tide me over until your book comes out? Smile

thelostgames: I have posted some links to interesting reading material on my website, perhaps you will find them interesting.
The earliest games were indeed an attempt to entertain, and therefore to appease all of the Olympic gods, not just Zeus.

Hits: Oh yes, I saw those, I had hoped for a book I could read while on a flight but I can print out those websites easy enough.
Interesting. So something about the most important game possibly had the potential to anger Poseidon?
I'm sorry, that's a third question. *blush*

thelostgames: That is certainly one interpretation, I believe there are others. You seem like a very bright young woman, I wish you luck in your graduate studies. I must return to my notes now. Sincerely yours, Eli Hunt

Hits: Certainly. Good luck. Smile

So it seems that the Benevolent Society he is speaking at in Cardiff is one that he himself probably belongs to or would like to belong to. Since he calls the members his "colleagues".

I'm glad to see Eli's corresponding with others. And I didn't even mention the lost ring. Wink Anyways, I'm thinking this Society Eli mentions, is most certainly connected with "the secret someone's been keeping for a very long time."

[EMAIL] Eli Hunt 3/6
no invitations to this lecture available

Had an email exchange with Eli Hunt about an hour ago.
Quote:
Mr.Hunt
We corresponded by email yesterday.

I have a close friend at the university in Cardiff, where she is a Classics student studying theater, dance, and sport in the Late Roman period. (We used to joke that she was going to study the movement of Late Antiquity "whoosh!" and I the sound of Historic Modernity "plonk!". Sorry, perhaps that is a bit of an insider's joke.) Yesterday she expressed her interest in your work to me by email. She had a question regarding the presence of labyrinth structures at the ancient games, specifically whether or not such traditions carried over from Crete.

If it were possible for her to attend your upcoming lecture this weekend, I would be greatly in your debt.

At any rate, I hope that the material of this upcoming lecture finds its way into a video-cast soon.

Best to you,
-Ouroboros

and his reply

Dear ουροβóρος,

I must insist that my lecture this weekend is a private affair. My client has paid for the privilege of exclusivity, and I must respect that.

Sincerely yours,
Eli Hunt
