SOLVED: Chess with Reggie

SOLVED: see http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2465

Mos I know how you "beat" Reggie....

Reggie wanted me to play chess. Gang we need to collect all the moves he said in casual chat to any of you. It is the next puzzle

xover222: Play chess with Turk.
xover222 has selected the "Chess" IMVironment.
magesteff: Reggie?
xover222: exd6
magesteff: OK
xover222: cxd6
magesteff: ok
magesteff: Turk...

magesteff: Switch colors?

xover222: Rxe5+
magesteff: ok

magesteff: Reggie?
magesteff: BxD4+
magesteff: Nxf4+
magesteff: Bxg7
magesteff: Re2

(These were moves he said to Sin Vraal, and the Blog)
magesteff: What is the next move?
magesteff: Bxd4+
magesteff: cxd6
magesteff: Why do you keep resigning?
magesteff: check
magesteff: checkmate
magesteff: Marcus?
magesteff: e5(this was from the CFRG site, first puzzle)
magesteff: Red Knight?
magesteff: Turgenev?
magesteff: Your move.
magesteff: PxPe5
Yahoo! Messenger: xover222 has logged out. (9/20/2003 1:54 AM)[i]

Sin Vraal said he also got Check in the chat.

I think TURK may be the key.

Follow-up

Turk isn't the key, he's the mechanism - I speculate that with our chess moves we need to come up with a keyword for him to respond to us.

Here's where Turk got his name, for sure:

http://www.bcf.org.uk/articles/may2001/turkjv.htm

If Mos and Enaxor and others that have played chess with Reggie/Turk and have seen such chess moves, please compile them here and be clear where they came from (we most likely have to find a _____ gambit, a _____ defense, or some sort of special name(s) from a famous game with these moves...)

Those are my 2c. now it's bedtime.

*EDIT* looking back, I got "Check" with respect to the game I was playing Turk, it wasn't one of the moves he said. Didn't realize he said anything but "Play Chess With Turk" at the time. heh.

We definetly need more moves for any kind of analysis..

Is this everything we have? Nxf4+ Bxg7 Re2 exd6 cxd6 Rxe5+ e4 Bxd4+

If exd6 cxd6 are in sequence it starts either from e5 or e7.. but if the next move is also in sequence (Rxe5+) then e5 is NOT empty and is occupied by black (assuming Rxe5+ follow Re2, Re2 probably follows a castling since R was on e1) ... so back to exd6, that's black from e7.. which leaves the King open for the rook..

Nxf4+ wouldn't make sense for white N since black K would really be out in the open.. but it would make sense for Kg2, from Kh1 after the castle which got Re1.

e4 as the first move makes sense.. and fits the current assumptions..

Bxd4+ could compromise the black K in h8 after the castle.. but Bxg7 isn't clear unless it's an earlier move.. or it's black B following a f/hxg7+ ..

Observation:
The moves that Reggie sent Sin_Vraal are repeats of the moves that *Mage* quoted to Reggie.

Except for the "e4". And I could be wrong, but I believe Magesteff sent those moves to Reggie *because* she knew Sin_Vraal had received them from him. We were all working together last night on this in #acheron, so there was communication about who was getting what moves from him. I'm pretty sure Magesteff didn't just make those moves up...

Thanks for the clarification. Very Happy I know that a couple of times in the past, Reggie has repeated comments made to him by others.

Yes. Sin Vraal and I were getting them at the same time. When Reggie stopped giving me new ones I was hoping that feeing him the ones from SV would trigger more. At least he knows we are sharing information and that we recognize that they are important. Once I started quoting the other moves we actually played a quick game (I won by putting his King in check - he could have escaped briefly, but chose to resign instead). Actually he resigns quite a bit, including before making the first move.

Updated list of chess moves

Me and Kimbean compiled this updated, corrected list of all moves we have received from him. 16 total, with the "check" as a possible extra move. Let's crack this joker down...

Bxg7
Re2
exd6
cxd6
Rxe5+
Nxd4
e4
e5
Nf3
Nf6
d4
d5
Nc3
Nc6

Check? (maybe a move, maybe not)

Edit 1, from addlepated's post below: now 18 total, plus check:

Be3
O-O

Moves from tonight, I think the only addition is the castle:
Quote:

e5 e4 Nf3 Nf6 d4 d5

e4 e5 Nf3 d4 Nc3 Be3 0-0

Also, in his games he always makes the same moves:
Quote:

1. g1-f3
2. d2-d4
3. g2-g3
4. f1-g2
5. o-o
6. c2-c4
7. f3-e5
8. b1-a3

That's in Yahoo Games format - I think it translates to:

Nf3 d4 g3 Bg2 0-0 c4 Ne5 Na3

Chess notation reference

By the way, I realize we've been throwing lots of jargon around and I'm not sure anyone has posted a place where people new to the game of chess could pick up on this stuff. Well to be honest I was not familiar with this notation either, so I went looking and found this. I think it sums up what you need to know about this notation pretty nicely, although to understand some of it you will need to understand the game of chess:
