Yeah, thanks a heap for all the work you've done. Hell, 4 parts is not gonna be enough. Needs to be longer haha. Me and my bud were talkin bout the manga the other day, and he said it would be better if it were in color. I told him he needed to drink a nice tall glass of shut the hell up. The manga is perfect the way it is. The black and white panels match the mood. It wouldn't be the same if had color. Am I right or am I right?

I remember there were more like that, but they said things like, "Look at these peppers. Look at these Motherfucking Peppers." and more things like that.

Kosmo - Thank you so much for your contributions here.

Does anyone know when the 3rd installment goes live?

Glad to translate Smile
The 3rd installment will come (according the Kadokawa-webpage) the first 10 days of April. Well, we know their punctuality ( Rolling Eyes ), but I hope, they'll make it quicklier, because the 5th April is Cloverfield Premiere in Japan. So the fourth installment will come after premiere - and I wonder, what will we read there Wink

I hate this. I really, really do. I'm just glad someone is summarizing the important parts.

I got a simple answer.

Don't like it? Don't read it.

J.J. & Co. could have just left us with the movie. Everyone bitches for "more clues," and when they give us one we don't like, we bitch more.

Its getting old...

OK, Summary

- Kishin's father works for Tagruato (he is responsible for research).
- The "Beast" (Clover?) was detected 100 km from Japanese Coast, and it nears to Japan
- meanwhile Kishin and his girlfriend (OK, the relations aren't such intense to call her girlfriend of Kishin) are coming home to Kishin.
- Kishin discovers in the fathers room (forbidden area) some clinical notes and files about Kishin like he were also kind of experimental object)
- Kishin is kidnapped by some weird types, they aren't robbery and aren't rapists, they are looking for Kishin.
- Meanwhile Sasahara (the girl) escapes and calls the military to help her. But military officer is "one of them", he also has the same bracelöet like the kidnapper.
- Finally Kishin is transported to such undefinde place, and the weird Mask people say him, they were sended by "God". I suppose (Wild spec?) the main guru of that group is Kishin's father.

Well, more isn't in it. And I have to confess, I don't understand what this mask people want from Kishin. To sacrifice them? To deify them? To use them as a bait?... I suppose, 3rd part will bring more clearance to the story.

Great job kos! Thanks for all the hard work here.

On another note, why do I get the sinking feeling that Clover is becoming less and less "America's Godzilla" and is becoming more and more a Japanese oriented kaiju-eiga??

I suppose, it's JJ Abrams personal tribut to Japan and kaiju.

just a short note to say thanks kosmopol! These translations are pretty much the only thing I lurk here for anymore.

I appreciate the summary too. Like some of the others, I find it hard to to follow the story even with the translations - lot's of times I just don't get what they are showing my in the drawings or what the words mean lol.

Kosmo, thanks so much for the summary!

I hate this not because I don't want more info, but the fact that I can't read Japanese! Why is the American verison of Godzilla being portrayed in a Japanese comic. I'm not reading it, just the summaries.

You're welcome! And also to other people: thanx for your thanx! Smile
Btw, it's interesting phenomenon, you've told about (borrowing of the themes). I know in the history of cinema at least two cool another examples for Japanese-American intertextuality.

The first is "Glorious Seven". This Western was made after Japanese "Seven Samurais". But "Seven Samurais" was the Japanese version of American Western, because as Samurais as Cowboys have more symbolic then historic significance (it's simulacrum-alike mythology). So Japanese and American cinematographers was borrowing from each other like an intercultural exchange.

The second example is "Matrix". Firstly there were Gibsons (etc.) Cyberpunk, these masterpieces insirated Shirow Masamune and then Mamoru Oshii to "Ghost in the Shell". This masterpiece inspirated brother Wachowski to "Matrix". "Matrix" was one of favourite movies of Mamoru Oshii, so he made "Avalon" and quoted there a lot of Matrix stuff. Brother Wachowski were fascinated by Avalon etc...

So here we have the same scheme: (don't know, who was the first, but it isn't significant) say, Japanese Godzilla inspirated JJ Abrams to Cloverfield, and Cloverfield inspirated Japanese Mangaka to Cloverfield Manga - because I suppose, it wasn't just marketing project, this Manga seems to be really good concepted. I see it often as significance: when the story or happenings aren't really logical or motivated (like in "Avalon"), it doesn't mean, the Manga/Anime author sucks, but it does mean (at least in case of Mamoru Oshii), that we hadn't just got the message, we have to re-read and re-view it.

I've seen "Avalon" at least 14 times (after that I stopped to count), and the first time I thought about that movie: "what an unlogical creepy stuff?", and now I see: everything there was highly-logical, I haven't just got the symbolical language the first time.

As SUMMARY (sorry for long essays here, hehe):
we have to re-read the manga from the beginning, because I suppose, even if we've got the linguistical language, we haven't got symbolical language of this work yet.
