Im pretty sure its for the remake of the spanish film [REC]. Immediately after i saw the CDC truck and quarantined off building, i thought of [REC]. 10-17 is the release date for the film now being called "Quarantine".

i could see the viral for this being pretty cool though, i loved [REC] hopefully its new counterpart lives up to it.

The movie "Rec", which was released in Spain and on which this remake is based, came out TWO MONTHS before Cloverfield...

The other one was "Diary of the Dead" by George Romero, and he was seriously pissed when Cloverfield came out b/c apparently he's been planning his movie for a bit and just missed releasing it first....

(I'm still biased towards Cloverfield)-->technically it all comes from Blair Witch anyway, even JJ admits that was a source of inspiration.

EDIT: (I'm only talking about the hand cam part, not the viral...)

Well, apparently REC was so good they wanted to remake it for the States big time even before it was originally released in Spain, so it ought to be good.

well within saying that, look at all the other foreign movie remakes.
Ringu, Ju-on, and every other successful japanese horror flick they've remade for american audiences, has more or less sucked a big one. which makes me a little uneasy.

But the elements for REC were perfect, for a damn good horror flic.
The film also didnt really give us many answers in what was happening.
It just gave us minimal backstory.
But if the american version tries to explain, and force fed you what was happening i'll be pissed.
As long as they keep the elements from the original it should be a damn good movie.
