And here's the second talk. Both chats have good prospects for the future.
Let's all wish macmonkey luck with his dissertation for Thursday anyway!

<macmonkey> there were lots of ARG references
<macmonkey> hoping that once you'd figured out PO was an ARG itself, it'd make sense
<macmonkey> (...)Mostly subtle things like titles of blog posts, marks where holes were cut from the book the USB stick was in etc.

Lightbulb moment: Something I noticed from the pictures of Leyton's pickup back when he first posted them - the page that the cutout started on has something about "Will you, won't you, will you, won't you, will you join the dance?" I knew that had to be significant somehow. XD

Sorry I missed The chats.
Pesky employers and tHeir constant demands!

I did have A few questions that I'm hoping I can ask, here and get a reply on from macmonkey...

First off; Good Job oN managing all the twists we threw at you and I hope you'll be able to remember how to sleep when the dissertation is complete.

What web development platform was used for the sites? Visual Studio.Net?

Were the identical auth files on the USB drives supposed to be identical? The game really lost me when we started seeing different results on files that were "byte-for-byte" copies.

Will we be afforded a looK at the (properly de-identified, of course) result of what was being tested for the thesis? Or maybe just let us know what the major topics and conclusions were?

If it helpS with your write-up, my experience was that I had almost no interest in LMF from the beginning and felt it was the more transparent of the three major components. My lack of interest is based on having seen too many missing persons ARGs, I think; But, I can get behind the concept. (Follow the link in my avater).

1:50m was pretty well done and a believable construct, overall. I know, I had enough doubt about it that I never Filled-out the petition Smile . It served well in the antagonist/protagonist dual role. It would have been cool to see some additional bodies lined-up behind it, though (Poor Gerry).

And finally, PO. The simplest Of the sites, but also the most intriguing for me.
OOG, I Really was convinced that the PO game was abandoned by it's creators and handed over to you as a puzzle outlet for LMF.
The scent of informaTion was strong on that site. But it was always only the scent in the early implementation.
THe feeling that something really cool must be hidden behind the walls was a driving factor and the timed updates were a subtle thing but another aspect that just made it all the more intriguing.
WE would all set our machines to match NIST and, bingo! there was the update, published to the second.
A lot of us really couldn't believe that retrieval of the USB drives was the end of it. I apoloGize for my part in all the work you had to go back and do to reintegrate PO into the game;
But like I said, I started losing fAith when the auth files were giving different responses and it was obvious that LMF was the "real" game.
Part of Me wanted to continue playing, but I think I told myself that it'd be better to hang back till the 1:50m intranet was up and running, smoothly. (It felt like we were rushing the PM team too much).

Anyway, thosE are my observations and if you're serious about reviving something later in the year, I'd like to volunteer to help, if you need it.

Capital job! and well wishes for the dissertation Smile

ETA: Just remembered another question and don't think I saw it in the chat logs...
Was there ever any possibility of us decoding the two auth files on our own or were they just random 1' and 0s?

Yes, I forget who asked but the answer was basically "I dont want to talk about that because if I do a sequel they will be important"
