I think part of Backspace124's confusion is that the transcription says "age nothetia " instead of "ago nothetai .

What is "agenothetia", i cant figure that out
The agonothetai are the ancient Olympic game-keepers: trainers, organizers, umpires. This was explained in Eli Hunt's second videocast, The Ancient Game Keepers .

Gang - he's hung up on a typo or transcription difference. The handwritten document is a little unclear and therefore got typed up one way. Probably the wrong way, adding an 'e' for an 'o' and swapping the 'a' and 'i'. So to answer Backspace - there are no 'agenothetia', the document says "agonothetai".

Oh, and it sais: Instructions for preparing the lost ring, not "finding".
This strikes me as odd at this point. Are we concerned with something named "the lost ring" or something that is a ring that is lost? I think there is a difference. If the lost ring can be prepared then it can't be something that is missing in the unknown game/sport.
At first this made me feel more certain that the lost ring refers to a place. But there is so much emphasis on location and mapping today.
Maybe "the lost ring" is the people and this refers instructions for preparing them to play. The TA's are lost, but not missing.

I was just about to say... perhaps we've had the wrong idea from the start... "Find the lost ring" - perhaps we've already found them, but that doesn't mean they're not still 'lost'.
If we've found the 'lost ring' of athletes, our next goal is to save the world august 24th. If the game is on - then we'll now have months to prepare them (and the rest of us)... interesting...

Two things:
1) I think that "Salomon" is just an alternative spelling of "Solomon" in this case.
2) Like Hikaro wrote above, I think that this has to do with Francis Bacon and the "House of Salomon:" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_New_Atlantis
[url=http://www.bl.uk/learning/histcitizen/21cc/utopia/reasonreligion1/solomon1/solomon.html]This link ,I think, provides a pretty good idea of how it might be related:
Quote:
Solomon's House is a research establishment on the island. In Solomons House science is a collaborative undertaking, conducted in a rational and impersonal way, for the material benefit of mankind.
I think you're on the right track....
Some thoughts:
1. If Eli has been building a "research establishment" or House of Solomon, where/who is it?
2. About #5,
Quote:
As you work for the six, you can build a house of Salomon
What if this is it? This combined with the other communities, it is a collaborative research establishment of sorts, all working to solve the mystery.
3. If it is Lethe with an "e", in one of Francis Bacon's other essays (Of Vicissitude of Things), he refers to both Salomon and Lethe. http://books.google.com/books?id=NDw1AAAAIAAJ&pg=PA512&lpg=PA512&dq=salomon+lethe&source=web&ots=n70aU4Ily4&sig=8Gvlxx4uAQlRCf-UzcNGJWXyfsk&hl=en It may be a stretch, but the passage does involve knowledge and memory.

Or - is there a House of Salomon out there running these games and the websites? And can we find it?

[meta] releasing info too early? I'm so unsure about how this works or where to post here. But here's my situation/ question.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
the guy at the Austin History Center told me the clue leading there was not supposed to be released until Tuesday. But he told me to walk out and give him a chance to place the artifact and then let me come back in and find it anyway. Do I post it now or wait?

Hopefully there is a code at the bottom that will let us download a copy from the Omphaputer like the last one.

Okay, okay!
I've got some photos and some xerox copies and some notes I took on the less readable aspects of the documents. I can't get my scanner to work at the moment- I think it's broken. Photos here http://s13.photobucket.com/albums/a296/jaspersu/lostring/
Direct me to someplace better to post the photos?
The documents are still there, so someone can get better images.
