But everybody knows the order in which those signs are in relation to each other.

So it doesn't matter what time of year it is or where on the planet you are because when you lay the "clock face" wheel of the Zodiac down around the omphalos, as Hunt describes in the podcast, Leo is always north.

Also isn't navigating using degrees a stretch for someone without scientific instruments to calculate them? Even if you found due north using Polaris or something, a mistake of a degree or two could put you off course enough to get lost. While I think it's probably possible if they had some sort of scientific equipment like a sextant or something, I'm skeptical of the claim the layperson could get to civilization if they found themselves lost with only an Omphalos code coordinate to tell them where they are.

Of course, maybe that's why the athletes in the Lost Game had to learn orienteering...

Agreed. I get the impression from the Podcast that this system may not have been for just anybody.

There is not, as far as I know, a blind sign of the Zodiac. Though there's probably a constellation somewhere somewhere in the sky that is.
I keep thinking this must be posted already but I couldn't find it. Not sure exactly if this is important, but...

Libra is the scales of Justice ( http://www.libra.arollo.com/mythology-history.html ); Justice often wears a blindfold.

Some pure spec:

I think that "the Secret" is a collaborative site, and that we are going to have to input codes or activate nodes simultaneously in order to get something to happen.

I dunno what, though.

Don't think that it is important, but in the html source of "the secret" site (IP 164.109.150.213) there is another IP: http://164.109.146.211.
To be exact there is the following url: http://164.109.146.211/dcsiebvfg10000ggj60mghu0a_5q4b/njs.gif?dcsuri=/nojavascript&WT.js=No&WT.tv=8.0.2

For me it showed nothing and as far as I understood it will be only used if javascript is not enabled!?

You're right AUZ505, that (blank) image will only be shown if javascript is diabled or not available.
I think I will have a deeper look on this second server tomorrow, as over here in Germany it's already past midnight Wink

actually I'm pretty sure the interface uses dynamic images - it's a call to a .GIF file with querystring parameters - that can only mean the server is generating a GIF on the fly based on those parameters. So there's some difference between linking directly to that url and it being called from within the interface. The only thing I can think of is that the flash is calling the url and sending additional data in the http request (like http headers or cookie values - the latter I think more likely). It may also check the 'referer' header, so that if it's not being called by the flash or from the site itself, or any other means of verification fails, then it would return that 1x1 blank pixel.

It's pretty complex... I don't have the time to scrub through all the javascrpt and flash code to figure out where it's all happening or how, but that's my gut feeling. The interface and commands all seem image-based. So it may very well be that when you hit enter to send a command, it makes that dynamic GIF request, the call is verified on the server, and the resulting 'image' (the text displayed in response to the command) is downloaded and displayed.

Which means no call to that .GIF url will return anything other than a 1x1 image unless we can figure out how the server verifies the call is actually being made from the flash console and not a browser Razz

...and I realize most of that if not all just went *whoosh* over a bunch of heads, heh

Here are the "locations" I have seen crop up so far - both "pending" and "active". Perhaps a little hard to see here, but there are two dots close together in China, and three together in Europe. I've done my best to get the placement right, but due to my head eventually starting to swirl around like a snowglobe they may be a little off.

Has anyone spotted any further red or green dots which haven't been noted? Are there any I should adjust - I've got each one on a separate layer for easy adjustment...

[SPEC]

Okay, here's my theory...

When you enter "CODEX", It tells you it's transmitting omph navigation sites, and tells you what green and red means.

Then it tells you to "enter active navigation site for codex location"

So we need to figure out how to enter the locations where the currently green dot/s are.

Possibly then the red dots will turn green?

My attention is drawn to the co-ordinates and Omphalos Code in Monica's notebook. ( wiki link.) Is there a way to enter them onto the site or otherwise discover some list on the site of the omphalos code?

I think if we can answer the question you just asked, and the answer is yes, and we find out how, we will make a huge leap forward to solving this mystery.

I for one think there is definitely a way to enter Omphalos codes onto the site, and that it will be vital to do so. We just don't know how to do it...

Post any new command lines you discover and check out our compiled list on the Wiki command line list

has this been posted yet? i tried typing in "MAN 595 TRIDENT 20" and it says, "too many paramters, max 1 allowed." "MAN OMPH 595" gives the same.

O_O

edit

hmm, nvm, i guess it's not significant? Typing in practically any word/letter + number combination gives the same message.

No, it's not significant.

As far as I have seen, all the commands only allow 1 parameter (basically, every word after the space in the command counts as 1 parameter each). Thus

MAN 595TRIDENT20 is an acceptable command, but it will say something like "no manual for 595TRIDENT20" because the site have anything to return for that command.

but

MAN 595 TRIDENT 20 has three parameters (595, TRIDENT, and 20) so it will give an error message that you have too many parameters.

Jackpot baby!

I took a bunch of screenshots of the spinning globe so I could really try and pin down where that damn green dot on the globe was. I had isolated it to Nova Scotia, along the western edge. So I started typing in single word names of the cites.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
When I typed in "STEPHENVILLE" I got a result.

Omphalos 1 identified.
Navigate 20478 Scorpio 24 degrees.

Doing the math using Eli's numbers, that's 3,788.43km, at 84 degrees off north! Also, wasn't this city mentioned somewhere by Larissa or Renta or in that grandfather's story or something?

edit - my maths were a bit wrong. Thanks thebruce. P
