The Secret Site / Omphalos and Artifacts
observed procedure for turning dots into artifacts

As of the Ides of March, this is the process that we've observed in using the Secret Site, and turning little dots into chapters of the Codex of the Lost Ring.

1. (SITE) a red dot flies into the rotating world map

2. (PLAYERS) somehow we identify the location (city or place) of that dot

3. (PLAYERS) that placename is entered into the command prompt (e.g. DONGYING)
- (SITE) if the location has a red dot, the system returns Pending artifact confirmation
- (SITE) if the location has a green dot, the system returns a confirmation and an omphalos-code direction (e.g. Navigate 3969 Hera 8 degrees.)

4. (PLAYERS) we use the omphalos-code direction to identify another location (city or place)
- rogi-ocnorb's omphalos calculator can help

5. (PLAYERS) that second placename is combined with the first and entered at the command prompt (e.g. STEPHENVILLE/AUSTIN)
- (SITE) the system returns Artifact location identified. and three lines that specify the location of the artifact

6. (PLAYERS) we recover the artifact, we get a code, which, when input to the command line unlocks a PDF of the chapter of Codex of the Lost Ring

7. (SITE) the system makes a second artifact location available, as in step 3
- (PLAYERS) rinse and repeat from step 4

8. (SITE) the dot changes to yellow, presumably when both artifacts are recovered

Check out the sticky above. We've had a few coordination efforts and it looks like one of them may be happening.

Somebody should e-mail Mei Hui back, to tell her someone's going there tonight and keep her from going herself. Much more fun to have a player pick it up...

New command discovered by 'erich' in IRC chat:

FINDTHELOSTRINGCODEX

Find the omphaloi
Navigate using omphaloi code
Retrieve artifact locations via command: omphalos/destination

Additionally, Shadow determined that there are different responses from each of the (ATTRIBUTE)696 entries, rather than the same for each, as we had in the wiki. These are as follows:

Stop the World! I wanna get off!

If anybody happens to find a command that stops the globe from spinning and lets you rotate it via the mouse, I'd be very appreciative. Wink

I don't know how you guys are finding locations on what we have. Maybe it's just my monitor or these old eyes.

Heh... yeah, it's very zen. You've got to stop trying too hard and be the globe.

Or as I can't help but think of it: the snowglobe.

Sorry, guys. I claim that. I was so excited, I didn't take the time to register before posting. I was so excited I didn't capitalise. *blush* But, yes, new dot. I'm positive it's somewhere in Canada; it's too far north for the USA. I have a (backwards) screenshot (I caught the map on the wrong side of the globe *sigh*), if anyone wants it. I'm sure it's new. It's the first red dot I've seen.

Signing off from Australia!

Hi brodie, just curious, but does the position of your red dot look something like this?:
NAmerica_red dot.PNG
Description   I saw this a couple of days ago, but thought it might be Boise. Now that I'm seeing your comment, I'm not so sure. It *is* pretty far north to still be in the USA...

Hi Gerri.

After cross-referencing about five maps and some sketchy (and I do mean sketchy, American geography fails me, being Australian), continent drawing, I think that it possibly is Boise. For a little while, I thought it could be Olympia (which would be just so fitting), but it's sort of middle-ish, and on zooming in, quite far south. If you want, I could attach my sketch for the Americans to see and interpret?

Brodie.

I thought it was NW Canada at first, but that region of Canada (or Alaska??) is so sparsely populated, I think I exhausted all the possible cities in under 10 mins!

If it is Boise, then I wish they'd make it active already.... I keep seeing it as red (despite the fact that someone's already "found" it) and it's bugging me coz I can't tell if it really is Boise, or it's a new dot....!

And my eyes are killing me. If they could sue me for abuse, I'm sure they'd have done it by now.
