My boyfriend just wrote me a textmessage from his cell phone, telling me he discovered a new command for our secret site.

The command is: RUN GRAPH

Nice find. You can also attach images here. Typing "RUN GLOBE" then takes you back to the globe.

All very high values, with fluctuations, until around 1815, then a precipitous drop. I don't recognize the formula, but then, it's been a long time since I've looked closely at mathematical/physics equations.

Brilliant! And yes, brand new!!

For those who aren't physicists, the equation at the top looks like the time-dependent Schroedinger Equation...Putting some thought into this now. (Ah, my physics education is finally coming in handy!)

I remember thebruce had posted this equation last week after poking around in the flash, and I think there were comments then on it's meaning.

Found it:

ETA - Seven lines total - six colored and one white. Lambda on the Y-Axis (wavelength?)

It's Schroedinger's equation...

EDIT: The lowest value is 6, and the function peaks at 11...

And BTW, welcome Aerith and her boyfriend! Good to have a way to get at the graph officially. Now we need to figure out what it has to do with our athletes and this competition.

Hey everyone, new here, but it's my second ARG (I took part in IRIS)...

Anyway, taking a look at the chart, I'm going to probably repeat everyone here, but yes the equation is part of schrodinger's equation and what not, but on the bottom it appears the numbers correspond with the years of the games...

For those in the mood for some light reading, here's a Wikipedia article on the "Many Worlds" theory of quantum mechanics...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Many-worlds_interpretation

And a related, much easier read, that speaks in general of the same theory, an article on the Schroedinger's cat thought experiment:

Just saw your post...If the y-axis is Lambda, these are really, really high wavelengths. Visible light is around 10 -7 , and microwaves are 10 -1 m. Radio waves go up to around 10 4 ...So we're talking much higher than that, (up to 10 11 )

My guess is the y-axis may actually be frequency (Hz), because that would put us square in the Microwave frequency...Not sure if it's relevant at all, but that's the frequency used for satellite and wireless communication.

Okay, let's pull out our radios and satellite phones and listen to what the agonothetai want to tell us. Razz

Short notice about the graph and the secret sites IP address

Hello folks,

I - i.e. the mysterious boyfriend of Aerith - just translated my simple posts on my blog to english for those of you who wondered what cryptic language I used before... Wink

If the blog shows up in german when you enter it, you can use the american flag on the right of the topics to get to the translated version.

However, there's one more thing - besides the graph thing - I wanted to point out: After thinking a while abut why the secret site is known only as an IP address and not some strange domain name, I felt like as if it had some special meaning.

Also, I once saw maps created by Chris Harrison that show the world of the internet with all the nodes. Those maps really look pretty similar to the image I retrieved from the secret site (if you have a close look). I don't know though if this is of any relevance, but it would be too much of a coincidance wouldn't it?

Regards,
T.

Oooh, you're right. It does look similar. (And welcome!) The globe makes a lot more sense now, actually, after looking at that picture. I'm not sure if it's directly related to internet nodes (although that would add a really interesting element to the big picture idea of the story), but the Ompha-puter definitely shows more dots in the higher populated areas.

(Maybe this has been brought up before...if so, sorry...)

Merely as an exexcise, I attempted to mimic what I assumed would be an image used to generate the dots on the omphaputer. Starting with the Earth at Night image, and multiplying the image with a layer of noise in Photoshop, I came up with the attached image. I'd say that this is plausible for how it was done.

Just to reiterate, THIS WAS JUST TO TEST A THEORY, and is NOT the real thing.

When you get the graph on your screen you can find a slider at the bottom right to slight through the year dates.

It doesn't slide through the dates -- it changes the scale of the graph. If you slide it further to the right (about 3/4 of the way), you can see what Avatrix observed: that everything apparently went to hell in 1815, and that it's taken until now to recover.

Do you suppose the six colored lines correspond to our six athletes?
