[Trailhead?]odd email
wtf is elbrahim?

hey, i may have gotten muh first trailhead! it seems pretty obvious where this goes. the email was intended for someone named Norman. said some weird stuff about recruitment and something called Elbrahim, also a character named Mr. Rye. There was a link to this site: http://oesregistration.webs.com/index.htm

sent in an 'application,' still waiting on the return

i also responded to the initial email with this:

Quote:
i think you've got the wrong guy. but if there's anything i can do to help??

to which i got this response:

Quote:
Oh, I am so sorry. I seem to have sent this email to the wrong person. Please disregard it, please don't tell anyone, thank you.

so obviously I post it all over UF!

anyone else heard about this?

I am beginning to understand how so many of my forefathers could have committed the ultimate crime.

Before long I may begin taking antidepressants. T. Rye's bleak images do not improve my mood.

July-
They are coming much more slowly than I expected. It is July, and I have received only two applications

I do not take this as an insult to my physique, but rather a blow to my patience.

I'd also like to see the original email.

Also, this is the apparent organization's blog; linked at the bottom of the page.

lol good catch

initial email:
Quote:
Norman,
I just want to thank you again for the wonderful help you've been in the past year. My spirits have been lifted by none other than you several times!

The registrations are coming in, but not as quickly as we had expected. I check it every day, you can assure yourself.

In Elbrahim We Rest,
Q.
http://oesregistration.webs.com/index.htm

P.S. Mr. Rye is as excruciatingly dreary as ever.

Hey, i signed up & under "why i thought i would be good for the position, i put:

Quote:

...i think im good for the position because i'm willing to try anything at least once,
(including apply for this when i have no idea what it is for.)

To which i got this reply:
Quote:

Dear Sir,
It disturbs me to learn that you do not know what position you are applying for. How did you learn of this if not by the normal means? Are you one of them?
But, I presume you came upon it by chance and wanted to help, out of the goodness of your heart if there is such a thing.
Very well. You will be taken into deeper review.
In Elbrahim We Rest,
Quistarktan

Well friends are always nice. Confused

I'm confused. A guy with a name like Quistarkan is recruiting for something he calls "Our Enlightened Society". He refers to someone called Egdrish in his blog and makes it sound all religious, or maybe cultish, with references to Elbrahim, Milleniums and Jesus.

On the other hand, he mentions Norman, Perot and Mr. T. Rye. Those sound like regular old names to me. And he's trying to fill a "position", which sounds like a job opportunity. Is it a cult, a job, or a fraternal organization?

In the privacy policy he says something I would like to know more about:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Quistarktan and any associated organizations are by no means liable for any unfortunate circumstances that may occur after applying for a position within OES. If you do not feel comfortable with this statement, you are not the one we are looking for.

I considered applying and telling him I'm good for the position because I also rest in Elbrahim. But the above spoiler sorta made me chicken out. Very Happy

EDIT: got a response. it called me #004760 and that same number was in the subject line.

Quote:
This questionnaire is very important in determining the validity of your application. Please answer honestly - this is not a game.

001. Have you or someone you know ever been a member of OES?

002. Have you or someone you know ever been a member of AOES?

003. Have you ever been a willing accomplice to a member of AOES?

004. Do you have an interest in cryptology?

005. Do you have an intense need to uncover secrets?

006. Are you married?

007. Do you live with anyone else?

008. Can you keep a secret?

009. Are you willing and eager to do extensive research?

010. Are you willing to learn Latin terms?

011. Are you prepared to have all your beliefs challenged if necessary?

012. Have you ever killed a man?

013. Are you willing to kill if necessary to procure the Truth?

014. Are you willing to completely, utterly dedicate yourself to the pursuit of the Truth?

hmm.. interesting

Apparently he liked my answers. I'm #000321. I got the exact same questionnaire.

My email:

Hello.
I am writing in reference to your blog, and the position in OES that I have just learned about. The information you requested:
1) my name
2) my email
3) I'll admit that I am not familiar with OES, but you should not hold that against me. You seem to be a person on a mission. Perhaps I can help.

If you don't mind, I do have a few questions for you.
Is there any information about OES and this position that you can give me? Is there some place I can read further about OES and Elbrahim?
Also, I do have a question about the "unfortunate circumstances" that you refer to in your privacy policy. Can you give me some idea of what these unfortunate circumstances might be? It's not so much that I am uncomfortable with the prospect of misfortune. I just prefer not to walk into things blindly.
Thank you for your consideration.

His response:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Dear Sir,
I am very pleased with your response. You seem to be exactly what we are searching for. However, looks can be deceiving.
You can only learn the secrets of OES by becoming an active member. A very active member.
Unfortunate, adj. - lamentable; sad: the unfortunate death of her parents.
Circumstance, n. - an incident or occurrence: His arrival was a fortunate circumstance.
You will be taken in for deeper review.
In Elbrahim We Rest,
Quistarkan

It's getting very interesting. Shocked
