Found a picture of St Isaac's from the left side!!

Three smaller domes are visible, and you can even vaguely make out the cross on the top of the main dome. It's definitely St Isaac's, so now we have:

1. Rome; Roman Forum (right side, middle drawing)
2. Russia, St Petersburg; St. Isaac's Cathedral (left side, middle drawing)

Here is an even better match:

The Helsinki Cathedral, up until the independence of Finland in 1917, it was called St. Nicholas' Church, built as a tribute for Nicholas I, the Tsar of Russia. Rolling Eyes

I think it's a better match because of the circular window in the drum of the main dome.

Yeah I'd have to go with this one...the landscape around it matches the picture as well as the circular window under the main dome...where is this one located?

I wonder if it's relevant that the Olympics were held in Helsinki (in 1952) and Rome (in 1960)....

EDIT: Well, have to keep in mind that these training places were presumably used in 1916 or so --- before those games were held.

To confirm the Basilica Julia by danteIL for the right middle drawing, the Roman Forum viewed from Capitol Hill matches the drawing even more closely. Scroll to the extreme right of the panoramic view of the Roman Forum (third one) of this page:

The three brown arches are clearly visible on the right. Behind the arches is the building with the doorway, some trees, and even further back are the three columns, all depicted in the right middle drawing.

Also, the Helsinki Cathedral seems to match better than the Russian one. The columns just below the largest dome for the Russian one are not present in the drawing.

Perfect!

Unfortunately I haven't been able to devote that much time into searching out buildings that match, but I believe we've stumbled upon the pattern... which makes London next (Making my suspicions of the statue being from the UK correct).

I'll keep looking, (so many bloody statues in london)

So all we're left with now is the statue? Very Happy

And yeah, the Finland one does seem to suit the drawing better; at a second look, the Russian cathedral's front two domes aren't really domes but bell towers.

Off to look for that statue now... Smile
