Which sub? The only two that I know of are the Kursk and K-159 (which occured while it was being towed), neither of which was a Typhoon class I believe.

 		Going WAYYYY out on a limb here, but whales and subs can be confused on sonar (pop lit anyway, and there is a prob between whale migration and strength of navy sonar) maybe esp. by an inexperienced sonar guy... Whaling boat shot a sub w/a harpoon and it sank Very Happy Whaling boat is a cover for a recovery op??? but those dang hippies keep getting in the way?

Or someone is pulling natas' chain. (Not a good idea, generally).

They could merely be saying the UFO's have been killing the whales, not the Japanese people who the protestors think it is

 		Are we sure about the negative values for Sub coordinates.... the one before the latitude looks iffy...

Seeing as how this is where we're being pointed. I was just wanting to see if anyone could come up with a clearer pic....

the values (50.25, -39.75) take us HERE.
A little closer to home and not as far for Doug to paddle. lol

 		The ONLY thing I could find was that the 1st generation Soviet nuclear subs were called

627 Кит, 645 Кит-ЖМТ (Kit, whale), November class

"In August 2003, the K-159 sank while being towed to the shipyard..." which Nighthawk already mentioned.
