Enigma:

Combining these possibilities give us a total of 26,672,901,348,424,004,787,290,112 or about 10 to the 26 power possibile starting settings. (Other ways of calculating this figure produce different totals.) http://w1tp.com/enigma/mewirg.htm

Some 9,000 people were working at Bletchley Park at the height of the codebreaking efforts in January 1945. wikipedia

nope, the possibilities for the numbers alone is only 60 by my count because of the fact that you cannot use the same number twice. so 1,1,2, or 2, 3 ,3 etc. would not be allowed. Figure that in with 4 known possiblities for the date.. Month, or Day of the week, (US or German version), that's 240 possibilities. still too much to randomly guess. Kosmopol, see if Erika will be a little more clear as to the code.

I've pretty much been simply a user of the enigma as well, although I understand more about it as time goes by. For our purposes here, and as long as the PMs stick to the Flash simulator and not the full on monstrous simulator, this beast isn't too hard to tackle. As said before, first you need to choose your three rotors (I-V) by selecting the yellow icon at the top right. Remember that order matters. If no number is given as a clue, then start with the default of I II III. Then turn the rotors to your three letters in order given. Paste your text in the Input and see what you get in the Output. I've never had to mess with any more than that to date.

Wha... huh? Somebody's not good at math, it seems...

Anyway, I think we're simply giving the PMs more information to make us miserable by.

I wouldnt worry about that, I am guessing they ALREADY have all the info they need to make us miserable.

Yeah. That's the full blown Enigma with patch cords. All possible settings. Doesn't apply to our situation, as natas pointed out. Still, 240 possibilities (or even 60 or 120) is probably beyond us. Makes you appreciate Alan Turing and the "9,000 people" at Bletchley Park, no? And even then they relied heavily on cribs.

Quote:
The day-to-day trench operators, on the other hand, were sloppy. Enigma messages would often be broadcast, every day, with the same stereotyped introduction. An officer in the Africa Corps helped greatly by constantly sending: "Nothing to report." Other operators would send standard salutations or introductions. Standardized weather reports were particularly helpful.

No doubt. Enigma doesn't matter anyway until we get something to work with....

It's Erikas blog, in Manga style, like she writes.

Our theories are correct: gentechnology.

Btw. have you thought about "ichliebebutterflies"? Its equal to "I love butterflies" and I think curiousely about "I love bees" Wink

In the title, the captil letters are:

MLIEMGSLPI hmmmm...

One anagram is "I smell GIMP" so I opened up my paint program and started screwing around. I noticed that while adjusting "Hue Values", the only portion of the picture that changed at all was the part in the lower right, the picture of the German soldier. I know little about picture manipulation, but I'll keep trying.

Phrases from photographs:

Quote:
One of many, but....
This the life that I was given
Not everyone was so lucky
We were made and selected...
in a hidden place In a secret place.
This is the world I was born into...
...By the mean ol'd man who lived upstairs

Is Erika some kind of alien?

I have a feeling based on what we have seen so far that some of the clones have been mistaken for aliens over the years. This is purely speculation but I think has a good shot of being right.

I think that the selective breeding going on over at Kantsaywhere eventually led to inbreeding. All they are missing is a little kid with a banjo, and a man with a pig.

Well, it could be so, but I suppose, she is just a product of cloning the genes of Tyr. (Of course, if Tyr isn't an alien) It would fit in the Ahnenarbe theorie about conserving the "good genes" (what a stupid theorie, but many people believed on it unfortunately...): and Tyr just take his own genes, because he is... ehm... "the best", hehe...

Btw, that's why she told me

So it has to began sometimes not in the far past, but in these years.

The picture in Erika's blog is 256 KB. Is that normal for a picture file?

Usually, there are no specific sizes for pictures: it could be 10 KB, it could be 7 MB. The pictures seems to be free from every information exept the image itself (normally there are some datas about graphic software etc.)
