really, i heard diary of the dead was quite good. but hell guess you can't trust what you hear always.

Ya, i heard the same. Which is why I went out of my way to find a theatre playing it. But i just couldn't believe how bad it was. Even halfway through I kept thinking "...it MUST get better soon, or how could anyone possibly praise this?".

The acting is really atrocious, and whatever message is trying to be conveyed is somehow completely ambiguous, yet STILL crammed down your throat. I've never seen anything like it. Something about how the media lies, or technology controls us, or technology sets us free, or the abuse of information. I don't know, and obviously neither do the people who made it. (I think i saw zombie tears at the end...Seriously!)

Land of the Dead looks like a classic compared to this one. Just had to rant on a bit. Please, none of you waste money on this, curiousity got the best of me and I feel totally ripped off. If you must see it for yourself, wait for dvd or download it illegally (in the true spirit of information technology).

I'm positive it is, There's a thread for case 1017 on the news and rumors section. http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=24784

(EDIT: I forgot Nighthawk already pointed the thread out, I therefore trout myself... Trout )

The remake is called Quarantine (or Quarantined, I've seen both)
Release Date: 10-17-08
An IG blog for Case 1017 keeps mentioning the disappearance of an Officer James McCreedy, and consequently, IMDB lists an Officer McCreedy in the characters. And theres always the CDC quarantine in the video.

well within saying that, look at all the other foreign movie remakes.
Ringu, Ju-on, and every other successful japanese horror flick they've remade for american audiences, has more or less sucked a big one. which makes me a little uneasy.

But the elements for REC were perfect, for a damn good horror flic.
The film also didnt really give us many answers in what was happening.
It just gave us minimal backstory.
But if the american version tries to explain, and force fed you what was happening i'll be pissed.
As long as they keep the elements from the original it should be a damn good movie.

From what I've heard its almost the same exact movie, just in english... I read somewhere the REC producers got to go on set and were actually a little pissed that almost nothing looked different from their movie.

Well, apparently REC was so good they wanted to remake it for the States big time even before it was originally released in Spain, so it ought to be good.

[REC] was incredible. It actually gave me nightmares, and I miss that about horror movies lately.

Wish i had seen that original thread when it was going on. First off I used to work in the hotel industry. Worked for four different hotel chains over a twelve year period. Nobody, and i mean nobody gets smoke breaks or breaks at all for that matter, so that shoots down the whole story from the get go. Plus as someone mentioned in the original thread, when the boy cries wolf that many times you realize theyre full of poo poo

nobody takes smoke breaks? What a joke!
I take a smoke break on the hour every hour.
no breaks whatsoever? Lunch breaks? bathroom breaks?
Did they chain you down and make sure you were working at all times?
Must've been a communist hotel chain!
That statement was poo poo buddy. LMFAO!
