 [META][INFO] Organizing people... professions?

So just on a whim, I thought - hey, we've got strengths, where out personalities and desires and abilities lead us, but what about practical talent and experience?

Sometimes I'm surprised (though shouldn't be) at what some of the people who come here (or various places) do for a living... perhaps it's just because we/I tend to put people in a "gamer" mold, but seeing people profess to careers like being a lawyer for instance, it kind of boggles me about the level of potential we have here, just in networking alone...

So I thought, why not start a thread for sharing our professions... what we do, how we might be of service, etc...

Now, of course we don't want to make this a 'selling yourself' deal, and some might not want to share because really it is what you -do-, and get paid for, so we don't necessarily want to be obligated to provide services just because we're playing a game... but this could really help us understand the scope of the community that's being built around this game, around the world. The pool of talent and abilities being built.

Perhaps (and I won't do this unless people think it could be a good idea) I might make a wiki page to go with the list of people by strength, opening it up to the wider community... maybe if you like, also say whether you'd be willing to have your name/profession listed in that capacity, or just here if you do decide to share.

So, what do you do?

To start, my profession is web application/database development.
As an aside I also play guitar, and enjoy photography.

EDIT - stickied. 5/26/08 - SG

Sounds like a great idea...also a way to kill time between events and what not, I'll go next.

I'm a student actually, studying Graphic Design in college and what not. I've had a number of jobs (Worked as a web developer for a summer for my father's company), but currently I work at an Old Navy at the local mall.

Hobbies include video games, music, art, anything that interests me really. I'm very visually stimulated I suppose, as most artists tend to be.

Thought it might be a good idea to describe my ARG experience as well, though it's rather limited. My first ARG was Iris, I went under the name Kashaku...mostly observed and added some insight here and there, as it was new to me then I wasn't sure what to do or say and what not. Unfortunately I hopped on that bandwagon near the end of it's run, but I recall the ending being rather anti-climatic, even after catching up with everything.

This ARG looks promising, and I'm lucky enough to have stumbled upon it in the beginning where I may yet prove useful.

I'm an undergrad, majoring in Sociology. In my spare time (which isn't much), I enjoy reading, doing a little writing-- I used to write quite a bit of fanfiction before I started Uni. My hobbies also include archery; I'm on my school team, currently ranked first in my division.

When I first started reading all the posts in the trailhead thread to catch up, I noticed that some of you thought that what Ariadne was wearing was suitable for archery! So, just to let you guys know, no, that's not what archers wear; international competition attire guidelines actually stipulate that in competition, a collared shirt and pants no shorter than just-above-knee must be worn. Smile

I'm a 19-year old student of ICT from the Netherlands. I'm autistic (Asperger's Syndrome) and speak Esperanto really fluently, and beside that I do speak a bit of other languages, such as French and German. I've learned myself a lot of things about "the real world" but I'm able too to look at things a whole different way.

Studying ICT means I know a lot of computers, and in fact I really like logic, maths and stuff like that. But most of all things I came by, I love Esperanto as it's the first language beside my mother-tongue which I completely learned to master.

Edit: As showed out on my website iompostiom.net, I'm found to be a Sofia. Don't remember minor strenghts, but I thought Thumos was in them...

I'm a buyer for a fairly specialised sector of the NHS.

Hobbies are: doing most things apart from being on stage in my local amateur dramatics group, photography, tinkering with websites, and trivia.

I'm a novelist, but I don't know how much good that's going to do us here. (Strangely, my quiz only gave Mythopoeia as a minor strength, and Sofia as the major strength...)

But my background before making a living as a writer was in chemistry--I have a Ph.D., and a good physics background, so I may be able to help somewhat with interpreting the RUN GRAPH and all this Schrodinger eq. stuff. I'm also an okay classical pianist.

This is my first ARG, but I've been hooked on adventure gaming since the Infocom days, and I'm good at basic puzzle solving.

I'm an art teacher. I used to teach environmental education and outdoor education before that. And a camp counselor half the summers of my life and a summer camp director. But did I get a badge with a little plant on it? Or the sun? No! I got sophia.

I think it makes sense that we are being directed to work on parts of this that match with our strength. . . but I also think that taking on challenges outside our strength areas can be a lot more fun and exciting: doing something you wouldn't normally do.

This is my first ARG, and I got here after hearing Jane McGonigal speak at SxSWi, and I got there by winning a conference badge as a door prize at the Austin Student Digital Film Festival by having the fortitude to sit through a lot of short films made by elementary and middle school students, which was fairly painful, but proves it pays off to stay for the drawing.

I'm a final-year law student, though my focus is on human rights law. My minor strengths are apparently dikaiosune and sophrosune.

My main passions, apart from human rights, are languages and travel. I'm from the UK, but I lived and studied in the Netherlands for a year, and have also worked in Poland and Switzerland. I speak French and Dutch, and passable Spanish. I guess this is where I might be useful.

I've never really been involved in an ARG before (the games I like were either puzzles - crosswords, su dokus etc - or computer games like Monkey Island, Broken Sword) but I saw a youtube video called "Find the Lost Ring", thought it was a trailer for a film and watched it. I thought it looked fantastic and so tried to find info about this film, and, of course, have now ended up trying to help Ariadne and the others save the world instead!

The test said that I'm a Thumos, and my minor strengths are Sofia and Sophrosune. This is my first ARG and I am really enjoying it!!

I am a 25 year old housewife/mother/writer. Sadly, my skills are sorta lacking, but I know adobe premiere 6.0 like the back of my hand and am very internet savvy.

I'm studying at Boise State University to get my BFA in Illustration. I'm getting back into playing trombone after a break from about twelve years of playing it, am trying to study Japanese in my downtime, and enjoy writing and composing.

I love games. I would consider them a staple in my life, and I feel that any future that I'd like to have will be heavily tied to them. I'm a firm believer in public play, and will engage in it whenever possible.

And I as of yet have been unable to get the test to work for me, so I'll make sure to post the results when I do Smile

Hi! I'm the (chatty) NCFriend.

I'm an activity director for an assisted living center. I love working with my seniors and planning events and activities for them.

In previous lives I've been a librarian, a group home director, and a technical director/stage manager at a college theatre.
In my life B.C. (before child) I enjoyed scrapbooking, rubberstamping, genealogy, hiking, letterboxing, and working with habitat for humanity.

It seems I'm a born Chariton.

Mythopoeia.

Hi people, the idea of professional data base is great.
So we can cooperate just better together.

So, about me:
I'm webmaster and media manager in a German university. My work skills are: webdesign, photoshop, layout. Also I speak Japanese, Russian and German, so I can translate texts.

And I'm writing now my dissertation in literature science (Dadaism and European Avantgarde), so I like literary and cultural researches, if you need it.

I begun with ARGs in summer 2007, and now I see - it's my life Smile

My interests are: reading book, writing novels, cg, making music. I like to spend my time with various creative actings, so if you are planing something creative - I'm very available.

P.S. Perhaps you just need to check up my English sometimes.
