If the Cloverfield Monster is supposed to be America's Godzilla, then does that mean? that he'll end up being a good monster and fighting off the evil space monsters and robots for us sometime in the next couple movies (if they ever happen)?

well that implies that Godzilla's intentions are good as well. Who's to say that Godzilla doesn't just fight them off because destroying Tokyo is his gig and he's just looking for a little job security?

I agree with Unicorn, Godzilla isnt really a "good guy" except for a few movies. I think many of the battles are instinct and nothing more. I also dont think that he litterally meant "our Godzilla" like it would be some carbon copy without the subtitles. Thats my 2 cents. ........boy, I sure used a lot of quotes for such a small paragraph.

What about gay sex scenes? I think they're gayer.
Anyways, because of the style of movie that Cloverfield is, I doubt he'll be smacking Gigan around any time soon. As for Godzilla, he DID kinda turn good for a while. They made him evil again around the time of 'Godzilla vs. Biolante', if I remember right, but he's a flat-out good-guy in Godzilla vs. the SeaMonster (Ebirah).

Actually, if you look at many of Godzilla's movies that have him fight other Daikaiju, Godzilla has always been rooted for at the good guy by the actors and actresses that run around in the movie's sub-plot. They even give Godzilla a child 'son of Godzilla,' which just wreaks of goodness. Only in the movies where Godzilla is solo does he play the villain.
In the first 2 Godzilla 'Gojira' movies he was a villain, in the 3rd 'Gojira' movie- he made the transition to Protagonist.
As for our own, Clover, I think because we are a world apart from Japan and can't just enjoy a good ol' monster movie w/o breaking it down and debating about how unrealistic everything is, even if there were to be a sort of 'versus' it would simply be 2 instinctive giant animals fighting. If they portrayed Clover as an intelligent creature, much like Godzilla has been portrayed, people would tear it apart.

Is just the whole idea of two guys in rubber suits having wrestling matches in the middle of some Japanese city. It's just the stupidest thing I've ever heard of and framkly I can't see how the morons make money of the shit.

But that's what I love about it, lol, I'm mean- it's utterly ridiculous and the best part is- w/ all the advances in CGI, they still stick w/ the suits. I mean, if I happen to get the chance to watch a Godzilla movie- I'm gonna do it. Simply because it's entertainment. It's the entertainment that many Americans can't understand. Today, everyone wants this form of realism where behind every action is a reason or a purpose.
I mean- take Cloverfield for example. Everyone got pissed because there was no explanation for the monster, where it came from, why NYC, what is even is, and what happened to it.
This forum alone proves my point that we can't just have something to enjoy it, that we have to break it down, we have to seek for rationality and logic, when in the end- what it all comes down to is that it doesn't matter. Whether we knew Clover's origins or not, it's not going to effect a damn thing, cause in the end- it's still just a giant fictional monster attacking the city. But we still grasp, we still wait for that explanation by hanging on the director, the producer, the designer, and even the writer's every word, just hoping that we get rationality, we get realism- we get an explanation for it all.
I'd say that's a bit more ridiculous than two guys in rubber suits tearing up miniature landscapes and buildings.

Maybe my post didn't explain it clear enough.
I don't think any Godzilla fans actually realize it. They think Godzilla monster fights are "cool" and "amazing". I can't get how anyone can find it actually entertaining other than it being the biggest joke in the history of movies.
Godzilla could have turned out as a decent series, but after the first one everything went to pot.
The series from Godzilla Raids Again onward is the biggest waste of time ever.
But if you watch it just to make fun of it (like I do), that's ok. But if you think that its the best thing ever and that they should do the same with Cloverfield... I think that you need to actually see more decent movies.

How do you brush your teeth, by the way? I'm afraid I might not be doing it like you do, and shit's only okay if it's the way you do it.
Sorry, that's just a really elitist thing to say, you know?
Plenty of people really enjoy the style of Godzilla movies (if you don't believe me, try to count the number of Godzilla movies on your fingers and toes...), that doesn't mean they're wrong, in any way.
It's fine to have an opinion that doesn't gel with yours, man.

I agree. Cloverfield was the monster movie ive been looking forward to for a long time. may americans believe that godzilla is scary and like the first film. But in reality, its two men in suits fighting on a 100 dollar set with hardly any recognizable actors, and useless unbelievable plotlines that are used again and again and again. I wish Godzilla would just stick to him alone destroying tokyo, and actually take the advantage they have and use CGI.

I understand why people dont like the monster fights, but what some of you dont understand is that sometimes you need a good monster fight in the movie to spice up the action. The whole movie doesnt have to be about 2 monsters fighting, but I do think in some situations its appropriate for the movie.

JJ's gonna do it the way JJ's gonna do it, anyways, no use getting so worked up people.
People enjoy different movies for different reasons, one person's stance on a movie is not a stone fact on whether its a good movie or not, which is my biggest beef with movie critics these days.
